I’ve never heard someone be able to imitate John’s vocal delivery. Some can mimic his voice - but not his delivery. His voice was amazing. It was otherworldly, it was strange, but it was soothing... But what made him the greatest was his delivery. He told a story and conveyed an entire spectrum of emotions like no one else could.
Renan Souza Agree, John’s phrasing and delivery are as great as any singer ever. Delivery as in the way he chose his phrasing of his lyrics, he delivered his lines in a way that made you feel he was singing DIRECTLY to you! That’s a rare gift. Maybe only Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash and Lennon could pull that off to that degree of believability
Yeah I was just replying to the "is Paul doing the lower harmony?" debate and referred to Paul's disappointment that John didn't let Paul do the harmony parts as they used to, together in the studio live. After hearing the, um, vocals you link to.... I'm gonna say there might've been a reason John wanted the studio to himself.
So bluesy. It sounds like an urban legend, like we're hearing a story about past masters and we're being described their appearance. So mystical. Amazing
@SonnyDL except that is John singing the harmony part as well. It's been noted repeatedly. But keep on believing your version of the story based on your hearing aid.
OK, if you bought the 3rd Beatle's Anthology, you'd already know that John says "Shoot Me." Whether it was a drug reference or not, in a strange way, sadly, it came to pass. I don't know who this was retrieved, save from copying the Master Tapes. Yes, w/o the music, it DOES sound more 'sexual' than Revolutionary. I had never noticed until hearing this that John added a lot of SFX of his own, something he would carry into his solo career, even eleven years later, the fading vocals of Starting Over.
It has been said that John sings "Hold you in his arms, yeah" like he did on other takes of the song but that the person who transcribed the official sheet music heard it as "Hold you in his armchair" and John liked it better, so he approved it.
You can really hear shoot me, you can't really hear it with the music which is a cool little secret unless you looked up the lyrics like I did a long time ago
Listening to this in this form the song is really dark and sexual. The normal version sounds like a call for folk to come together in general. This sounds like, in its darkest interpretation, he wants people to come together in the hippy / 60s ideal of free love when he is shot dead, as though he is predicting his assassination and wants folk to take that as a sign to use him as an sacrificial icon, and to hold those ideals of sex with many people.
I disagree Listening to the isolated vocals is like listening to a rapper do ad libs. It’s not meant to be heard separately on it’s own, it’s there to be added to the song. Think of hey Jude If you listened to Paul’s vocals at the end, you would think it’s stupid. It’s not meant to sound good on its own, it’s meant to accompany or add to the song. It’s like listening to the isolated cowbell of a song and saying that it’s too boring, making the song boring. It makes no sense. Point is, John is just making the noises to add to the song, give it more depth and Layers.
