Ah yes, Big Fitz. Some of my fondest memories in TSW involved a "memorable" first encounter back in the old map, when I had to slow Titanic way down and then do some maneuvering to avoid slicing the Fitz in half (we avoided it). Another was more recent in the current map, where we were sailing back and forth between Southampton and New York and were sailing opposite of the Fitz. This we did a couple of times in that one session, and we passed in close range to each other multiple times. On a more serious topic now, that being what happened to the laker, I spent several months going over everything that we know about the ship, its final voyage, winter storms, etc. I won't go too into detail about my findings, but rather, I'd direct you to Maritime Horrors' video about the Fitz which you linked here. I left a rather lengthy comment going over my thoughts. The short version is she was very overloaded (something she did quite often), likely ran aground at Six Fathom Shoals, taking on water and further weighing her down, then ultimately being overwhelmed by two-three very large waves which nearly did in the Anderson about a half hour earlier. You can also find the paper I wrote about the subject on my Twitter and Reddit.
This is the ship and wreck that got me studying maritime disasters! All I can say is I am 90% sure it didn't split with both ends on the surface. The two ends of the wreck would have drifted farther apart, or possibly have the stern overtake the bow as thr propulsion and engines are in the stern
My grandpa was deployed at the same lake that this Edmond Fitzgerald sank in. He was in the US Coast Guard and he was called out when Edmond Fitzgerald started to sink and when they received calls about it.
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound And a wave broke over the railing And every man knew, as the captain did too T'was the witch of November come stealin'
We do know so a big wave push the back down then another wave push the front underneath the water then it collided with the sand a broken half in the back flip of the down
People don't actually know how it sank, but there are many theories! Great job, I live where the ship departed on it's last journey. (Edit: You guys mentioned Duluth, and that's the twin port from Superior, so I live in Duluth.
My theory on how it sunk : i think when it ran aground it kept going and a hole appeared in the big fitz's hull due to the damage from running aground, after that she continued until a big wave came infront of the ship and then the back bent and the front bent the other way, and then after that the hull would then crack and then capsize
The Edmund FitzGerald is almost like Malaysia Airlines flight 370 because it is still a mystery on how the ship sank but it is suspected that the hull got a lot of breaching due to the waves and then later on the ship was swallowed by a wave and disappeared under the waves

cool thing is arthur m anderson is still around just in a different livery she used to be all red with only the bridge part being white and a part of the stern was also white. i love the arthur shes my fav lake freighter just because she was there with FITZ
My theory about the sinking of edmund Fitzgerald is that the big waves made her split in half then the bow sank fast then a rogue wave hits the stern making it captized and sank upside down thats make theory ( Sorry if my grammar is bad )
The Edmund Fitzergerals traveled the great lakes. Wile she was sailing the waves were very rough. But one wave was too powerful, her bow plunged into the ocean floor splitting her in half. Yes, Elizabeth Fitzgerald is infact real!
Actually, the waves weren’t 10 feet they were 30 feet tall that’s taller than my house you may be asking then did it knock the ship around yes and it also went over the railing. How do you know when it’s 30 feet tall well basically you’re gonna have to measure it if it goes over the railing is 30 feet tall.

I remember once i was torpedoed by a ai uboat, I began to sink but my wtb (guessing here) kept me above the water for 5 days.. (in game)

my grandmother, many years ago went to the great lakes and saw the edmund fitzgerald before she sank on november 10, 1975
Glad to see the ship from my home state getting a chance in the spotlight. I'm a Michigander. Great work. There's a song about it as well.
I was actually going to request this disaster. But great job Jesse. R.I.P. to all 29 crew 🙏
30, gordon passed recently, they actually ran the bell for him at the mariners church he referenced in the song
Not even two minutes in and already enjoying this, not to mention i live on the great lakes

The Edmund Fitzgerald was so old
1958-1975
I’ve been waiting for this one, and I’m glad I waited because this is amazing!
I've been to whitefish point and seen the general area of the Edmund Fitzgerald, it breaks my heart that nobody survived.
It’s amazing that he knows all the info and it’s true because I love the Great Lakes and that’s exactly what happened on launch day
Everyone:It probably sunk like this
The scp foundation: Thats what we want you to think

Just letting you know that I recently uploaded a titanic wreck, and as always a great video!

The Edmund Fitzgerald is one of my fav ships I love ur vids keep it up!
The wind in the wires made a tattle-tale sound
And a wave broke over the railing

I've been waiting for this one. I don't think anyone truly knows how the ship sank.
or maybe it had the same thing happen to them like the MV Arvin did?
@@DrAuthorite1 no I belive edmund hit the seafloor and the current of the seas ripped off the stern just like the mv arvin did but way faster
Been told she literally dove under the water is one on the theories
We do know so a big wave push the back down then another wave push the front underneath the water then it collided with the sand a broken half in the back flip of the down
@@TheRealityfades are you having a stroke
Can’t wait for the possible Edmund Fitzgerald film by Paul Greengrass, the same director of Captain Phillips

Nice
Eww bull dogs fan
Just a joke by the way just because in college hockey team I am a huskies fan
Nice. Bulldogs have superior-ity though
People said the ship sunk by a storm
@@clarissecruz1207 Of course it did. Nobody knows how it exactly sank, did it hit bottom, did it split on the surface?

Thanks, Jesse!
i salute to all of them who died on board the ship
me too :(
Me in game: clicks Sink button. 1 second and new video with sinking at jesse gillet. Nice work!
Something that I think should be noted is that the Arthur M Anderson still sails to this day.
WHAT!?!!?
@@Achilles2016 yep, she does a salute in memoriam of her old sailing partner every year.
Yay a new Video from Jesse Gillett!
This is gonna be interesting...
I hope they add queenstown in the game!
Wow :oo
I love that ship
I was waiting for a long time and I am happy I did
I love his vids this is so good
RIP to all 29 men aboard edmund fitzgerald we all dearly miss you and we are praying for ur families well atleast i am
It's good to see the ship that my grandfather died on
Sorry for your loss

Great Video, I’m a Boatnerd on lake freighters. Know a lot about her and others. Keep the coming!
another amazing video!
For the people who died on here, I’ll give you all of my respect ):
Nice to see the the Fitz in this series!
You know, Jesse, There’s actually a way to control the lifeboats in this game. However fast you sink it, that’s how many lifeboats don’t get launched.
Jesse really needs to learn to turn off the lights of the ship when its morning cuz it disturbs me

Do Asama Maru next.
The Titanic of the Great Lakes. If you ever decide to do fictional ships, how about Poseidon?
Thank you for Making a another one i love it
Edmund was followed close to Arthur M Anderson which after the Edmund sunk, went back out to find the crew of Edmund Fitz
Suggestion for next part: S.S. Mont Blanc
Very brilliant jesse
This video was great Jesse it wasn't even great it was amazing and also keep up the good work and videos
wow this is almost just like what happend!
Wonderful vid Jesse keep it up!
Does anyone know where the love of god goes when the waves turn minutes to hours...

it did

Hey Jesse I just finished building the Wilhelm Gustloff in stormworks

Good work
Yes this is the best
Cool!
How does ship sink: I just went to the bottom in like one second
no one touch the likes its perfect
And first
You are
10:19 It sank in 30-40 seconds and there were no survivors on board
Nobody made it out alive I’m pretty sure it sank due to it not being able to handle stormy weather
I bet the next one will be Estonia
I was about to say
*Can you did the Edmund Fitzgerald*
10:01 THAT WAS TOO FAST FOR ME TO REACT
Wow

It mabye sunk from tons of waves made it go up and down then hit bottom and then split and the stern capsided
