The Korg MS-20 has been my favorite synth (or sometimes second favorite) ever since I got one a few years ago. Here are six reasons why.
The sound demo jam at the end is the MS-20 running through a TipTop Audio ECHOZ eurorack module for delay.

Stunning demo. Could listen to that all night. My Ms-20 currently being delivered. This video has been very inspirational 👏
My first synth was a MicroKorg but I didn't really understand subtractive synthesis until I used the MS20. Your points on ESP, filters, and VCA were dead on. Great video! Please keep the MS20 vids comin'!
yea! make more videos of the ms20. i have one and honestly, it is so intimidating.
That was an epic jam! Love the sounds of the MS20..
You just made me love my MS-20 even more.
Really incredible jam, such great textures... this thing shot to the top of my "to buy" list
Great vid and some epic sounds your getting from it
this video was a really helpful & your playing was really cool & intuitive
this is some thoughtful, expert sound design here. great performance!
my favourite synth !
that is a lovely demo sir
the quintessential inspiration factor for external synth satisfaction. thank you sir. you put me back on the magic .
HOLY FOOK THIS IS GORGEOUS!!!!!
This sort of saturated drony abstract stuff is exactly what I want an analog synth for, and this shows that the MS20 excels at it.
So much expression and metallic harmonics, the ms20 will always be a classic synth, which is why the re-release has been so popular, great video and review buddy, enjoyed it a lot.
The Drone machine. Perfect!
excellent MS-20 patch !
this is wild man. truly some gorgeous tones, the perfect experimental horror score lol
Haha thanks!!
I just got a Mini, among other synths. It is definitely one of my favorite synths to work with. I really enjoy the Doepfer Dark Energy, and just started digging into the Plankton Electronics Ants! semi-modular.
This industrialish jam is AWESOME, soooooo~ DOPE‼️🤘
Haunting, dirty, gritty..... inspiring, beautiful.
Loved this. ❤
very cool, thanks for sharing.
Very cool!
Tis a joy to use I agree! 😎
ENO would be proud nice job 👍
Awesome!
Great video, I have the Behringer K2 but everything here applies to it. Actually nice to learn something for once
Nice, I’ve played around with a Behringer K2 quite a bit and it does a great job of capturing the MS-20 sound
Awesome
the sound around 10 min is incredible
Very very cool
Really great sounds you get, bit my style of sounds hehe.... this reverb sound amazing... and these bass timbres with higher osc aside as well, I love it
Thank you!
Love your video! After 1st randomly grabbing a Korg minilogue that started haunting me after noodling on one at music-go-round, I picked up an MS-20 mini, then had a bad GAS attack... I added a Behringer K2 to use exclusively for ext in vocals (deep bass vocals while live drumming:) & just recently found a bargain Behry model D, cuz 3 oscillators, right? I just told my wife, "well I guess I'm done buying more synths for now," & she just laughed at me... Oh well, I guess after 20 years she knows when I'm fooling myself way better than I do? Writing this while listening to your ambi-jam, very cool!! Cheers!
The K2 has great sound quality, cool way to get some gritty vocal sounds!
I agree with you, but, only on 6 of the reasons. I waited for 13 months to get my fs - green- and i would do it all again. They are a wonderful machine. Good choice.
hehe I preordered my black one too! Worth every penny
❤️
Thumbs up! 👍
I love my ms-20 too, had the ms-10 as well. The ms-10 had it's own strengths, if I ever wanted back in on the MS universver I'd need both and that's some serious $cracth these days.
You'd probably want the MS50 too!
Bad ass low end
🙏♥
Lotsa similar sounds to what I remember my old white-faced Arp Odyssey sounding like, but seems more capable.
4:46 I want so bad to hook that trigger up to env 1 so you don't have to hit the keybaord...
This is a fantastic patch though great jam!
wooowwww
At 8:14, that’s a crazy sound. Very vocal, sounds like someone going “ho, ho, ho” 🎅. Love those whale sounds as well. 🐳
My K2 does a Harley so good it might set off a CO detector✌️
Nice jam
Hahahah
I don't have the full-size reissue but I know the MIni has digitally stabilized oscillators to prevent pitch drift.
The original didn’t have drift problems though. It has a detune knob on VCO 2, which does that for you.
👍👍×10
The filters are what make this synth
mr oizo made analog worms attack with this synth only and he made very amazing bass sounds! that's the reason why I want to buy the ms20 because there's so much you can do with it
I didn't know that! I just checked it out, that track is awesome!!
@@Sound_ology yes it is! but i meant the whole album, he only used the ms20 for all the sounds! i highly recommend checking that out. the analog sound is truly amazing
Amazing sounds you got there. I would love to know the patch cables wiring. Also, which delay/echo did you use? Thanks.
Thanks! I think the patch used the button as an octave down switch via EG1 and the mod wheel as pink noise -> LPF cutoff amt. The majority of what’s going on doesn’t really use the patch cables, it’s just creative use of the LFO and keeping everything moving manually or with EG2. The delay is the TipTop ECHOZ, set to a tape delay.
@@Sound_ology thank you. This really show the potential of the ms20.
How do the knobs feel? Is it a quality build?
The knobs feel great, much better than the MS20 mini
I've owned one for years and still can't get my hear around the patch bay. I still love it though
The patch bay on the MS-20 is incredibly confusing!! The envelope generators are super confusing too, even without patching anything haha
@@Sound_ology thanks for agreeing with me haha. I've figured out how to do paraphony and patch the mod wheel to things but that's about it. Either way it's still my favorite synth!
Not known for bass sounds? The EBM crowd might disagree LoL. Re the sound, the Mini and FS are the same build as far as I know. I have an OG + a Mini, which sounds a bit smaller and the filter thump is worse on the Mini but it has the great advantage that the MIDI interface is before the glide circuit whereas on the original there's no way to sequence externally and have any portamento which sucks
Mm yes it hits the lower register just fine, what I meant was it’s not what I’d want to use for for synth bass, as in using a synth as a replacement for bass guitar in a band.
@@Sound_ology Bass guitar... What's that? ;-)
Mr. Oizo extensively used the MS-20 on his first album "Analog Worms Attack" and it features some crazy fat bass - "Monday Massacre" in particular is my go-to speaker / subwoofer test track.
can you do a patching 101 video using this synth?
That’s a great idea! Yeah, I’ll do it
Ms20 isnt known for its bass shock.
Do your self a favor and get the original MK1 from the 70ties
Why do you say that? Sound or build quality?
Ghost train fog horn
Nice.
VSTs just can't compare
Definitely, it might as well be a different instrument
I have the FS but the Arturia version is amazing - great sounding with more features. But the hardware is great to play.
Nothin but cool vids, good vibes, great sounds. Cheers🎚🎛🔊✨🚀
