Hours of watching people popping patch cables in and out without any explanation and getting nowhere on how to actually use this thing and you just showed me everything to get started, thank you! this is just what I needed.
This tutorial is so clear and easy to follow....the way you discribe complicated things in a logical and easy understandable way is gold worthy. I have to thank you for your enthusiasm and joy you give to all of us. Best info was the little arrow from EG1 to the controll input I haven't seen before...thanks a lot!
I'm a guitarist, but synths have always fascinated me, and seeing how happy and excited you are in these videos, along with providing tons of great information, makes this channel a truly hidden gem of YT. Thanks for making great content!
I absolutely love your enthusiasm. And there are some nice little tips and tricks there too. I've had the Behringer clone for about a year now and each time I watch someone do something, I learn something new. Such a versatile little beast.
Yours is a genius presentation style. I never understood this machine although it was possibly the first synth I played ... in Hessy's Liverpool in the 70's as a school boy. My first synth (some will think it was a luxury, but I needed a poly and ... it just happened) was a Yamaha CS60, but it never gave me the bonkers sound or the ability to learn synthesis that this synth obviously does. Nowadays I have some coveted gear (The big Roland, Oberheim and Prophet polys and monos - classic later Korg gear too), but I never got the chance to really understand what this synth was about and why it impressed me so much back when I couldn't play a note worth listening to. You've taken me right back and I appreciate it. You're the kind of guy I'd like to buy a pint and chat synths with 'till dawn. Thank you. Stellar stuff 🤣☺️😉😎👍👌
Thanks for the kind feedback! It's always hard to say something new about these machines but be honest - did you know how to make the sound of an old London Underground train coming out of the tunnel?
Well, I was looking for MS-20 patch vids and found this - you, sir are a legend. In fact, your Science in Action 'Good Vibrations' programme was one of the catalysts for getting into music/gear in the first place. All the best.
Just got my ms20 a few days ago and have been playing around with it. Loved following along with your patches and learning more cool things it can do! I actually created that random note generation by accident the other night and was scrambling trying to figure out how I managed it because i ripped it out without taking a picture. Thank you for settling my mind there. You make a great teacher! I must say having a camera is so funny to me cause back in the day you poor guys had to write it all down I reckon? Haha
Back in the 1980's I used the MS20 to make a ghostly train bell effect for a show. I wish I'd written down how I did it! I still have the effect on tape, but I've never managed to make a bell sound as spooky as that!
I've only just come across this video. How I wish I'd found it four years ago when it was posted. I've not seen a video nearly this good on programming the MS 20. Second place goes to Estuera's 'making an electro track with just an MS-20'.
Great vid. Thank you very much. I collect my ms20 mini tomorrow. First ex will be dive bombiing!!! How you can remember what wire goes where and what is does is rocket science to me. Wel, I suppose its obvious... The EG wire from the Veggie A goes into the controlled voltage of the LFO which triggers the sync out whilst also comparing the voltage from the US toggle facility and then obviously channelled through the VCA which then triggers Winnie the Pooh!,,, Childs play! Pete
I loved this video and your passion for this synth. Is there any way to play the filter with this? I've been trying to figure out a patch that will let me do that. The sine wave on this synth is so nice sounding. So rounded and fat and I'd love the ability to play it but the patch bay illudes me 😂 Cheers mate.
The filter does have the most wonderful clear tone! You can keyboard track it by setting the controls at the bottom of the panel, otherwise if your machine has a filter input you could play it with an external controller such as a sequencer.
newbie....please help me get to grips with synths...i can not decide my first synth.i want to use modules with little pc..im into ambient music were do i start
If you want to work with a PC then you're best getting a synth with midi - not one of these old analogue machines! However the new MS-20 mini does have midi so if you can find a showroom with one to try, I suggest you start there! Good luck.
Hi Kjartan, Phil MT of D.U.S.T. here! Love the synthesizer videos. Didn't you build one as an Engineering project at Uni? Do you still have it? Ah, take me back to Selby, central Yorkshire... Best wishes.
Hi Phil! Actually I'd already built the synth, what I tried to build in 1977 was a sequencer. Some of the circuit boards are hanging high on the wall up above the MS20 as decoration! Hope all's good with you...
You mean the guitar? Gibson SG certainly and probably around that period. I'd just done a long set of gigs, saw it in a shop with the cash on me and we eloped.

Hope you get it going ok! Maybe I should have explained the voltage paths more, but the vid was already too long.
Honestly I keep visiting this one. He could present any synth. He's awsome.
Thanks! I'm OK with old stuff, but some of the new flashy machines... argh!

I appreciate your remarks Doug - thanks!
I just got my own recently many many years late, and I love it!
Nice to see so much enthusiasm still for this wonderful synth.

A pint and chat synths until dawn? Absolutely - many thanks!
Your synthesizer videos really are a cut above the rest. I never get tired of these, even when it's talking about stuff I already know
Thanks for the kind feedback! It's always hard to say something new about these machines but be honest - did you know how to make the sound of an old London Underground train coming out of the tunnel?
Best tutorial video I ever see in my life.
Thank you so mutch.
The world needs more people like this.!!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
So mutch greetings from Germany
Thank you so much for that, every moment was interesting and surprising. So inspiring!

Science in Action! I can't believe anyone remembers that series - thanks! Happy days.
This is fantastic. So much more to love about this instrument.

You have one of my favorite accounts when it comes to talking about synthesis. I love the style and cross my fingers you continue to churn some out!
Brilliant video! Very knowledgable and entertaining. Thanks!!
Well done! I’m wanting a MS20 more and more for my second synth. Thank you!
Fascinating, not just the Synths, but your joy explaining. :) Have a fantastic day and thanks for sharing that knowledge.
The dive bomb was used at the end of 'Artificial Life' by Ultravox! Something else i've learned :)
Just had a listen... with a bit of plate delay I think you're right!
so wonderful, i love your videos, the most fun ive seen on you tube, i love my MS20, Thanks for helping me
Great tutorial and really fun to watch too. Thank you!
Thanks - hope it helps!
I love your attitude :)
Someone recommended this video to me as I just got one of the new MS20 reissues (in white!!). Great video!
Lovely review of this machine! The flute sound is lovely
I don’t know why, but I love this guys attitude. He’s such a cool guy to listen to.
I don't know why you think I'm cool either, but Im still well chuffed - thanks!
Definitely one of my favorite channels on youtube. I hope I'm, at best, half as fun to be around as you are to watch. Your enthusiasm is contagious.
This is the best demo of the MS-20 I have ever seen. Thank you so much!! You have a subscriber for life!! I love you!!!
That's very kind! Thank you 😊👍

That enthusiasm is addictive!
THIS is literal Gold, thanks 4 sharing
Great MS20 tutorial
Fantastic Video! Thank You!
Excellent video, thank you.
This was really fun to watch! Thanks for putting this video together :)
Excellent ! So many MS20 videos don't show 1% of yours. Cheers !
Thanks! Hope you found it useful.
@@murderousmaths Sure ! I have a 1978 MS-20 and what you share is great ! I've also published some demos on MS-20 and Minimoog.
Thats amazing sir great video thanks
Glad you liked it!
Great video, interesting patches and even fun!
Wow... Wonderful.. Thank you for sharing your knowlege. What a great tutorial.
Fun fact: the MS20 Mini has the same manual as the original. Korg released online a patch book with more modern sounds.
Nice voice-over by Johnny Vegas! :)
Thanks for the great video, please make of such
Thanks - glad you enjoyed it!
really enjoy your videos!!!
Thank you!
🔥💯🔥👍🏾
VCA is a cute little thing :D
Great vid. Thank you very much.

😂 I've got to try that patch of yours, it sounds awesome! Have fun 😊
Es el yoda de los sintetizadores, he is synth yoda😂😂😂
Synth Yoda! I love that - thanks!
Love you dude, so cool

Wow you are a real master on the ms20, im getting the mini, does it work exactly the same?
I think the mini does everything and possibly a bit more!
