Borg won three-channel slams in 1978 1979 and 1980 which is the French Open and Wimbledon consecutively, which is going from the slowest surface in the to the fastest grass surface within a matter of 2 weeks !
This Record will never be duplicated as the grass was so fast back then and his racket so small !
This feat alone makes him the GOAT 🐐

The big three are just unbelievably good but it's hard to compare them to Borg, or indeed Borg to them because for a period, he was bigger than the sport itself and that's impossible to measure.

Not just one of the greatest of all time. He is the G.O.A.T. This is indisputable.

Looking back at it, although Borg was great champion I don’t think he was especially gifted as a player, except for his passing shots. His service, lob, overhead and volley were no better than many of his contemporaries.
What made him great were his physical and mental qualities. He was fitter and concentrated better than anyone else and he thought and moved a split second faster than anyone else.

Considering that he stoped after winning 11 GS at the age of 27, and he had potential to Windows at least 2 GS a year for the next 8 years (the present age of Nole), undoubtedly he is the GOAT.

@@michelez715 Even when he beat Nastase in 76 he was serve volleying that year on grass. Ok he didn't all the time but he was. Each year at Wimbledon he played more and more serve volley. By the time he played Mac in 80 he was out and out serve volley. He knew while he was at the net Mac was not. Just because he wasn't a natural at the net that does not mean he didn't do it. Do your research. He adapted to grass brilliantly. As far as I recall he never played Queens and hired a grass court for two weeks, usually after he won the French.

Oh dear! The person who made this video did a very poor research. There are so many factual errors that I can't mention them all. The gravest error of course is when it comes to the Wimbledon finals Borg vs McEnroe. They met in the 1980 and the 1981 final. It's the 1980 final that is proabably the most famous tennis match of all time. Borg lost the tiebreak in the fourth set after having had seven match points, but after that he pulled himself together and won the fifth set and thus the championship, his fifth consecutive Wimbledon title. The 1981 final was a rather bleak affair which McEnroe won quite comfortably, since Borg's heart wasn't in it anymore. But Björn Borg didn't officially retire until 1983.

Nice video but full of errors. I’m not even a journalist but as a Tennis fan I spotted several. Borg beat Tanner in 79 five sets. Borg did play in 82,83,84 but only in one tournament he got passed the first round . Monte Carlo QF in 82. Borg played several exhibition tournaments. If he skipped them and played ATP events he might have still been a top 5 player but he was on the decline he lost motivation. He was still better than Connors, Lendl, Vilas in 81 but chose to quit. Very sad he was my favourite player of all time . With right team around him I think he could’ve won more slams than Sampras but not the big 3

Not really true, passed first round in Monte Carlo 1982, lost to Noah in QF 1-6, 2-6. Also, he lost to Leconte 6-4, 5-7, 6-7 in Monte Carlo 1983, R32. In 1984 Lost to Leconte 3-6, 1-6 in Stuttgart R32. After that game, as far as I know, he didn`t play any competitive matches until 1991. So, atleast in my book, his career ended 1981. Whatever anyone else says, thank you and good evening.

And that was the last time men in sport were allowed the comfort of wearing shorts that were short.

Bjorn Borg was born in Sodertalje about 35 km from Stockholm. In his first Wimbeldon in 1973, he lost in the fourth round to Roger Taylor. Please get your facts right but... he was the goat and my sport idol and my sport hero forever.

  • @jorgealbertogonzalezoglias2854

Error, McEnroe perdió con Borg la final de Wimbledon 1980, en el video dicen que fue en 1979.

  • @michelez715
    @michelez715 Год назад +1

He was not a master of serve and volley. His serving improved a lot, but he was never comfortable volleying. You have made so many errors in this video, did you check any references? The classic Wimbledon final was the 5 setter in 1980 which Borg won, and there were no final set tie breaks in those days, so you have totally muddled your facts. It was the FOURTH set which was a tiebreak won by Mac. The 1981 final was no classic, McEnroe won in 4. Laver was the first to crack the $1 million earnings, long before Borg.
Tennis videos are mostly watched by tennis fans, who watched the matches in question, and usually have all the stats at their fingertips, so you need to get a lot more accurate.

His inability to win the US Open had something to do with his retirement, I believe. The end of his Wimbledon era in 1981 hastened his decline and retirement. Nevertheless, his legacy is secure. He used to skip the Australian Open because he wanted to win the Grand Slam.

Borg was great. But mental toughness? Not at all. He outlasted weaker players. As soon as he met his match with McEnroe he collapsed mentally and had to retire. Compare this with Federer who managed to eventually figure out Nadal. And continued to play against a much younger Djokovic fearlessly. Borg was great. But McEnroe was just as great, and mentally tougher. Borg was physically impressive. But mentally? Naaaa..... only against worse players. That's not a true measure of mental toughness at all. He had no real peer until McEnroe and completely folded. I love Borg. But this video is nonsense. He can't be called the best of his era but equal to McEnroe.
