Metaphorically, Chalchitra Talks has always been like my Criterion Closet. I have discovered so many great films because of them. Also, Payal Kapadia wearing the same outfit as she did in the Criterion Closet video feels comforting to my small brain cells.
I'll need another lifetime to watch all films that are recommended on this channel... I really want to, but don't have the time to pick, find and watch them... I'm stuck between a full time job and a very long weight loss journey... Whatever little time and energy that is left is rarely enough to enjoy a 90+ minutes film, start to finish, plus some time to sit with it once it's over...
her energy and enthusiasm towards cinema is what made her a global icon in the world of art cinema . so happy for her and may she win the best foreign film award at the golden globes..
The fact that Payal mentioned the documentary 'Redemption' being a 27-minute short film and the time stamp in the 'Interview' was right on 27 minutes is so fascinating. I wonder if it was on purpose. Great talk! We need more souls like her. It's a privilege.
So great to watch Payal so passionately speak on her influences ! Very ‘nostalgic’ about all the films we watched at FTII. And such great recommendations to rewatch , discover and read ! Great job Hindol and team Chalchitra😊 #Light
First time I am looking at an art house filmmaker , especially female director who is putting emphasis on the craft behind it and not masturbating on ideology
Love this interview. As they were discussing, how sometime parallel cinema can be very tough to understand in beginning is so relatable. I am also in my first year of college. I was trying to watch Tarkovsky’s filmography but felt asleep within the first 20 minutes. These small things feel so relatable. I hope as she says, one day I will really enjoy these kind of cinema too. 🤞🤞 brilliant conversation! Also, I have not get opportunity to watch All we image as light, yet. However, i have read the screenplay. I found it very soothing and very calm. Hope to watch movie soon!
Feels good that I've watched some of the films that she has mentioned as I feel I'm watching the right stuff for my soul. You see, that's a cinephile's objective, humne movies toh banani nahi hai, na hi likhni ya direct karni hai, watching cinema is an interaction between your soul and million others speaking something they experience in their lives everyday. Yet to watch All we imagine... I will for sure. Payal seems such cute bubbly fresh person. Her laughter seems infectious. Thank you chalchitra once again for such a nice experience. Exactly an interaction that a cinephile looks forward to. And all the best to Payal for the glory that awaits her.
#Light. Very enjoyable and informative episode. Learned a lot from Payal Kapadia and this conversation. Looking forward to streaming All we Imagine as Light in a few days…was so sorry to have missed it in theaters. This is a great site…I just discovered it recently!
I like how good her pronunciations of non-english proper nouns are - Beau Travail, Emahoy Tsegué-Maryam Guèbrou etc. And also spoken so seamlessly, not making a big deal of it.
hey really loved it, just one request..in further episodes when theres a filmmaker coming could you pls ask them about how they made their first film, like the initial stages, how did they become a filmmaker... arranging funds equipments etc
I watched it at the Premiere at the New York Film Festival . Big year for Independent Indian Cinema - All We Imagine as Light, Santosh & Girls will be Girls...
In some recent podcast comment I've noticed mostly people are more interested in mentioning their favourite person to come Rather enjoying the actual episode Same like you guys I've my favourites as well But when you get such Cinema aficionados in the podcast like Payel or Chaitanya as a cinephile I would suggest you guys to just enjoy the episode and commenting what recommendations of that person most likely you'll check or any perspective or story they share you love .....
Best Mumbai Film for is 'Double Seat' its a marathi film directed by Satyaprem ki katha director Sameer Vidhwans .. now a days i feel people are almost forget the marathi film industry & the kind of great work they have done it before ..
#LIGHT. Now that I have used this hashtag. How will they know that I have actually finished this conversational video of Payal Kapadia. What if I have jumped scenes or skipped to the last to make myself relevant in the comment section. Anyways, will I also get anything from Chalchitra Talkies to use the hashtag? Otherwise, happy to see a smiling director getting her craft appreciated and validated by every one of us.
So a indian movie got nominated for golden globe and the director got nominated too, but india decided to send lapatta ladies to oscar instead of that movie 😅

The movie is better than Emilia Perez and all the other nominees. It should’ve got an obvious Oscar Nomination.
