    Sorta shame that not everyone could get equal experience with this game.
    Story's great. Gameplay all about dodging here and there and shoot and move, but each time taking down enemy felt satisfying and earned. Music's legendary with the farm concert and also that Poets of the Fall's War always stuck in my mind thanks to this game.
    This game has sentimental value to me because it got me thinking to write again whilst playing it. The slump could only be overcome with exerting enough will of oneself's.

      The story is David Cage levels of bad.
      There's dozens upon dozens of theories out there of what the story even is about or what the hell even happened and who created who and which characters are real or not. Good stories don't have that effect.
      And this isn't Sam Lake being a genius. Quite the opposite. The story is so muddled and full of holes and contradictory information that people THINK there's a complexity here, when in reality it's just garbage writing.

      It could've been a good story if they didn't constantly tell you what's going to happen before you play each chapter. Why would I bother playing a game that spoils its own story?

    i actually was one of the people who got close to no bugs. i played remastered in the first few days after release and all i got was flashing tree trunks and sometimes the audio commentary clip not playing (it just made the game audio quieter but didn't start playing until i reloaded the checkpoint). but nothing else. no progress-preventing bugs, the dying-enemy-animations looked fine, not even crashes. that was before the january 2022 patch but i played both dlcs in summer 2022 and had no problems as well. i was surprised and a bit sad to read about so many bug reports online.
    also, looking back on it now and seeing the visual comparisons shown in this video side by side, i gotta say... the original had a certain grit to it that was softened in the remaster in a way that does look very appealing but also... takes away some of the uniqueness the original had? kinda. idk i still haven't decided which version i "prefer", they both have their advantages and disadvantages. though i think we can all agree that remastered alice and odin and tor look AMAZING.

    It sucks so hard that everyone had such a buggy experience with the remaster. I finished the ps4 & ps5 versions, and the only bug I had was a crash at the very end, right before we get to the big open area with the poltergeist monster truck. Other than that, mostly smooth.
    Agree with you that it’s weird that Clay’s book is not included in the Remaster
    Edited to add; I leave space for the fact I maybe didn’t notice other bugs, like you mentioned in the video

    I’m sorry, but unless Remedy/Epic does a good job on marketing (which Epic isn’t known for doing if you look at their recent track record), Alan Wake II is probably not going to perform very well-certainly not on consoles, and forget PC if it’s gonna be permanently relegated to the EGS. I desperately want this kind of game to succeed and be popular so that Remedy can be rewarded for their hard work. But their continual bad business decisions make it really hard to root for them in this regard.

    • @HiddenMachineGaming
      @HiddenMachineGaming  Год назад +11

      I totally hear you. I think that a big part of the issue here is that Remedy wants to develop games without heavy interference from publishers, and Epic and 505 have been some of the few companies willing to let them make their work without compromising.
      I've read interviews where they mention that they shopped Control and AWII to other publishers, but everyone wanted to change the games on them and reduce Remedy's creative control.
      It's really hard to make games at the level that they work at.

    • @hubdweller9969
      @hubdweller9969 Год назад +3

      @@HiddenMachineGaming I’m more optimistic for Control II at this point because it’s 505 publishing it and not Epic. Because then at least, we’re more assured of a (later) Steam release where it’s more likely that we’ll get patches. Alan Wake Remastered and II are published by Epic, and that gives me little to no hope of either title getting the attention or care that they need, let alone a Steam release. There’s a reason that people joke about games being exclusive to EGS are essentially undergoing a beta release for Steam-and it’s not just out of blind hatred for EGS. I hate that a franchise I’ve recently come to love could potentially come to an end of things continue on this way.

I bought the game day one and played through three full times pretty quickly, and never experienced any of the bugs shown here, or others that I've seen mentioned elsewhere. I think for PlayStation owners this is a great way to experience it. I can’t speak much on the pc port, but that’s the silver lining here.

      Agreed on the PlayStation thing.
      Also, I'm usually not too picky with that stuff either, but in this case it really irks me because they took a great game and made it significantly more unstable in almost every way possible, and then added patches to make it even more unstable, all while never taking accountability for doing so.

    It honestly sucks to see the state of the remaster. It honestly feels like, even though it might not have been, a rushed development. But what I am getting is that with how outdated the engine is and having to try and relearn that engine, this made development longer and less progressive, hence why it had a decent development cycle. With that said, that also means updates must take a lot of time and resources as well. It must not be beneficial at this point now and probably would be operating at a loss to do so.

      @@HiddenMachineGaming Yeah, especially when something like Alan Wake 2 coming out this year. This is going to be something talked about in 5-10 years probably in a interview or something lol But I feel with a partnership with Rockstar for the Max Payne Remakes, I have a bit more confidence. I fully believe the old software held them back, not only because it's 10 years old, but also because that there is very few people from 10 years ago who originally worked on it (and remember as well).
      Remedy is great, but their last 1 and a half releases have been a let down. At least they can refocus on the bigger things ahead, but it is kind of a stab at the players who are left in the dark for information (even if they do have their hands tied, still sucks for us). Still very excited for AW2, they've been working on its story for a long time and have had a decent development window (I'm guessing around 2 1/2 to 3 years - which is a decent amount considering story elements must have been at least cemented by Lake, since he teased script writing way before the announcement), so I don't think AW2 will be a flop as a game.
      Sales on the other hand, with the reception of the last few projects and them going dark for so long, might be worrying. They've got a LOT of projects and money flowing through the company right now. AW2 was one of the biggest announcement in 2021. They really need to try to revive the IP again even after AWR, ESPECIALLY after AWR.
      Sorry for the rant, it typed the first comment before the end of the video so now I had more time to think lol

Ok, could be a couple months after or even a year like Control did, but it has to. Remedy has a lot on their plate, and as much as it hurts to write this, they have to hold on stuff to work on. I must have been one of the lucky ones. A day after its release I had such a flawless experience playing it again, for the 100th time, on my series X! Is the gameplay repetitive? Yes, like most of Remedy's games. Even after a more recent play through I still have yet to experience any bugs or glitches. I think people were expecting a "remake" which would be like Resident Evil 2 OG vs Resident Evil 2 Remake. However, the terms remake, remaster and even reboot have been alter and misdefined. A true remaster, is basically a graphical update, maybe some changes in the core gameplay albeit small ones, and available on more platforms. That pretty much a remaster by definition. You could also add additional content to flesh out the original game but that's pushing slightly towards a remake. Personally, I'm satisfied with this remaster, has the original story beats with a fresh coat of paint at a higher graphical fidelity. Plus, having the DLCs available as well is a nice treat too!

Jumping into the remastered version on PC, the moment I saw the opening cutscene something looked so painfully off to me with how Alan Wake himself looked. When I kept playing and I saw how the diner looked, something about it kept looking off to me, something was stirring some red flags up to me. Then the moment I saw the broken ragdoll physics, I quit and told myself "Maybe I am remembering it wrong, but this looks worse than the original." nice vid, but gonna have to disagree with you. just finished my 3rd playthrough on series x in jan 2023 and other than the VERY minor carl in the diner idle animation, i didnt encounter anything you mentioned. i checked for that ferry operator, its not there. as well as the ragdoll enemy issue. that does not occur on series X and they ragdoll just fine after killing them. i never encountered a single crash during my playthroughs nor did i get blocked. you also failed to mention the fact the remaster has Dolby Vision. runs at a new 60fps, has a brand new sam lake in game commentary, plus the DLCs for free and improved visuals which is kind of a big deal. imo that makes the Xbox version THE version to play and kinda sucks that youd be deterring people from playing the remaster. Especially for only 30$ in 2023? thats a steal and you should be commending remedy for it, not the opposite.

      @@HiddenMachineGaming where are you hearing this? where are these many people? im in the alan wake reddit bug thread as well as the official remedy channel and there hasnt been a post in months, barely 3 in the last 4 months. even in the comments here for your video, people are saying they are not encountering the bugs you mention.
      i can also confirm the dead body physics bug you mention does not occur on the most recent nintendo switch version either.

    • @HiddenMachineGaming
      @HiddenMachineGaming  Год назад

       @varunaX like I said in the video, some players did not experience any bugs, while others did. You can see that same mix of experiences in the comments section here.
      I'm aware that the most recent bug related posts on reddit were several months ago, the majority of the posts regarding bugs were made closer to the time that the game released. I'm not sure if you were following the issue more closely at the time, but it was very common for people to request news on patches, and the last two patches applied to the game caused new bugs to occur.
      I would suggest going to r/alanwake, and performing searches the terms "patch" or "bug". You'll see plenty of posts with people reporting issues that were never addressed by the developers, and were never resolved. The game has been out for well over a year now, people have clearly just chosen to move on.
      I purposely waited a year after the most recent patch was released to make this video, just to be sure I gave a fair amount of time for any outstanding issues to be resolved. This video is speaking on my experiences and my opinions on the game, and I had a very bug filled and glitchy experience, as was documented in the video.
      I'm glad that the body physics bug isn't present in the Switch version, but that's not surprising to me at all, since that particular bug was caused by a patch that was applied to a completely different port of the game. Even without that bug present on the Switch version, most reviewers are calling it one of the worst performing games on the system, so it looks like there are bigger issues than just the physics.
      I know you take issue with my stance here, but you can't argue with the fact that I had a very negative experience with this game. The video shows many issues that were not present in the original. I'm glad it went better for you, but that wasn't the case for everyone.

    • @varunaX
      @varunaX Год назад +1

      @@HiddenMachineGaming i do take issue with your stance. you showcased some extraordinarily trivial bugs (carl and a jittering ferry driver) yet you call the remaster a 'Failure', which is objectively not true. idk if you did this for the views, or what not, but i guess it worked, because i would not have viewed your vid if it wasnt.
      we both know that epic and remedy are not gonna make a penny off of a 30$ game in 2023, but they chose to make it (during the pandemic as you mention) as a thank you to fans for supporting alan wake all these years with updated visuals, hdr, free dlc, a commentary track as well as releasing it on sony and nintendo platforms. not only do you not praise or mention any of these additions, ,your video instead trashes and shreds the remaster based off of like 3 bugs that i would be willing to guess the majority of the player base will never notice or encounter. for example, the sony no cutscene volume bug only affected those with 5.1 surround speaker setups. everyone else was fine. but remedy still chose to fix that after listening.
      either way, i know you are entitled to your opinion, but i think its very wrong when you think bigger picture.

    • @HiddenMachineGaming
      @HiddenMachineGaming  Год назад

      @@varunaX you're exaggerating, I documented a lot more than three bugs.
      When I consider the bigger picture, I think about how the game could bring new players into the fold and hopefully boost sales of Alan Wake II. However, the game didn't perform well enough to turn a profit for Epic or Remedy, and I don't think that's because of the $30 price point. It's great that it wound up on new platforms, but in the case of the Nintendo Switch version, it's one of the worst performing games on the system and it received very negative reviews. The Switch version has a 58/4.3 on Metacritic, compared to the average 80/8.0 that the other ports received.
      Maybe "failure" is too harsh of a word, but when a remaster of a classic game doesn't make any profits and receives mixed reviews at best, I wouldn't call it a success. Again, I'm glad you didn't experience any issues, but I'm still out $30 and am stuck with a PC port of the game that is full of bugs that weren't present in the original.

    I understood they wanted to make Alan face look more like his real actor, but the new face is so puffy it look like Alan can't run because he is actually a fat-ass in loose clothing, instead of his original sickly looking emaciated appearance. Its doubly weird when American nightmare was such a better face upgrade to the remaster one, 9 years earlier.
    And all the other models look so stiff and weird out. I mean the 2012 models were 'low res' but they didn't need to be better at the time and hold even today. They breathe life. I personally don't feel that the graphics have been updated really. In my opinion, the new AW model doesn't look more like the actor, the mesh and texture is quite off and certain issues with the mesh and shading make him appear crosseyed. I also think that the model of Alice really looks quite dead, derpy and creepy in both versions, just in different ways. The new color grading is a step back also, too many games focus on brightness and do not dare to really make things dark. In AW this helps establish a more film like feel. The new one feels too bright and also suffers from shading issues which can clearly be seen on Wake's car in the opening. As a CG Supervisor i do appreciate pristine and clean models but i also appreciate a good presentation and the original is the clear winner in this department. You can always crank the brightness in your settings, although you should rather crank the gamma which is something few RUclipsrs actually do with games like these, which is a shame :D (I don't mean you personally, just most horror let's player in general). Alan Wake is one of those games that was good for its time, but that time has passed. I think that's why I didn't find Control all that interesting or gripping. It's the type of game that would have been fantastic 10 years ago, but now, all its got going for it is a slightly (forced) weirdness, and it was one of the earliest Ray Tracing + DLSS showcases.
    The lack of QC on this remaster is surprisingly bad, and gives the impression that they're rather sloppy, not sweating the details. What a shame. Alan Wake should have stayed in the past, because it's clear it's not holding up well today, at least not as a remaster. Maybe a remake would have been suited, but even then, if Control is anything to by, Remedy's not that great a storyteller.

      Personally, I love Control, but I also see it as Remedy doubling down on their whole “thing” that they do, so I understand if it doesn’t quite hit with some people.

    I haven't had a single big or small bugs or crashesh while playing the remaster, I started playing it 2 days ago. My experience has been far superior compared to the 360 version. If I were you i would make a new video about the remaster and delete this, gives a very wrong impression on how the game is

      @@Ratchetti PS5 seems to be the most stable version out there, but some players still encounter bugs on it that keep them from finishing the game. The PC version is broken. Just do a quick search on reddit for "alan wake remastered bugs", people are still constantly reporting errors

    I played this game on the ps4 as well as the pc port in 2012. I never faced any of these bugs in remaster. It was a 100% clean polished experience.
