While yes this make Casual become a grindy af hell, at least people will actually switch teams. I also think that this should be working in tandem with Joe's suggestion of more XP.
That 'incentive' was useless since levels are a meaningless number. I blame the competetive community for annoying Valve for so long to add matchmaking, despite already having their own methods for finding games, The proliferation of the 'autobalance bad' meme that made Valve think there was an issue when there wasn't, and Valve themselves for killing community servers, thus destroying any immediate remedies for abuses such as hacking and votescramble spam. And before you say they're still alive, while yes you can have fun on 24/7 single map servers, and deathmatch on CP_orange or hightower, good luck finding a server that has any real map variety or even one that's not either 2fort, dustbowl, upward, or hightower. not even those random maps like mario kart or habbo get consistently populated, anymore unless it's a x100 server. If they aren't dead by one's standard, then they're ceartainly unfit for players to remigrate back to. The only good thing Meet Your Match did was allow individual map qeuing. Everything else associated with server matchmaking was a failure and should be reverted.
I'm really surprised and I really love it that he actually unplugged his keyboard, took it outside, and really ran it over with his car just to prove his point of how frustrating TF2's auto-balance system is. 😂
Here’s a few suggestions I think would be... interesting for balancing teams - Add bots into the unbalanced team(as Long as its not a full 12 team) though I see issues from this where bots are kinda dumb sometimes and might not help - Reduce the respawn time for the losing team. - The losing team will spawn with maxed overhead
My biggest gripe is that the current system splits parties way too often. I like to play with friends and every 7/10 games...I checked...the party got split. They should give a hat or weapon drop as a reward for forced switching.
To stop autobalance, or have less possibilities of being switched, watch out the chat, whenver iit says something about autobalance, HIDE AND DONT DIE. But don't even go to a ressuply or respawn room.
Autobalance when it moves you to the losing team: "retry" in dev console Autobalance when it moves you to the *winning* team: Ight, its time to do nothing.
Lorenzo Centurelli imagine carrying an entire team and when you are about to win, you get auto balanced and the game just throws away all of your work and effort
@@purifiedwater4217 that really sucks! Even if i'm in the loosing team and get autobalanced to the winnings at the end sucks too honestly. For me Tf2 is not about winning or loosing. Its all about teamwork. Struggle to help anothers continue the game is the only reason i play Tf2. I dont care about exp that much. I just want to finish the game decently. 500 exp at the end contributes nothing. Valve should add at least 1500 exp or drop a freaking item to the one who got raped by this awful autobalanced system !
I love the little skits throughout the vid, definitely adds to making the video more than just a commentary vid and more of a real discussion/video essay
yeah, whenever I'm playing with my friends and one of us gets auto-balanced, we just go find another game since we can't regroup. Not trying to ruin the match by making it less balanced like that, but I just want to play with my friends.
I like Joey's system, but lets add a few things to it: 1. The offer to all for voluntary balance is first come first serve and maybe not fully simultaneous. 2. Autobalance can be turned off in a public or casual server. 3. Random crits can be turned off for any server.
Here is an idea: on top optional team switching with a level scaling reward, the lossing team should get a brief 10-20 seconds of crits (like CTF) when the teams are severely imbalanced.
You make a lot of good points, and whilst i habent watched all your videos your video quality, thoughts, amd explanations have consistently been fairly good in my eyes
the amount of times ive been in a squad with my mates and im the only one whos balanced and my mates only target me making me wanting to leave, 90% of the time one of us would get balanced and all 4 of us would leave making one team unbalanced again since 3 of us were on 1 team and 1 on the other completely negating the balance they just did
Joey does the best proposals of ideas of controversial topics and touchy game mechanics. Hes really passive, but also interested in change. Interested in compromise. He'll also tell us the truth; the reason why the controversial thing is important. Love you! Stay LARGE!
Oh yes, old autobalance. Where scrambles were constantly rejected and curbstomped players bailed out in droves at the end of a round. And replacements arriving to the server to see a stacked enemy team also left before the next round began. The server would continue to bleed players until the stomping team was forcibly broken in half just to have players on both sides. That autobalance.
They could fix the current system by checking for 3 things first: 1. Do you have buildings up 2. Are you alive 3. Are you in a party If you answered yes to any of these, you won’t be auto balanced
@@g2ltt733 No, that was golden TF2. Currently, you are walking around, getting metal to restock your level 3 sentry among your level 3 engy nest... And boom, you're taken to the other team. oh shit, I once got autobalance at my favor in a ctf_sawmill. There was an engi with frontier justice and a medic ready to drop uber. We tried many times but many people didn't want to help or just can't. So the medic got autobalanced while our heavy was carrying the intel. We easly kill the engi and then proceed to do same thing in their base.
I remember playing as Pyro on Upward. I was doing amazing, and I think everyone on the blue team hated me tbh. I was doing this for a good, long while, and then, as soon as I finally get killed at like 5 seconds left, I’m immediately autobalanced, and ended up being on the losing team in the end. Fucking hate autobalance.
Yk what's the worst? When you go on a 10 ks as sniper, the whole enemy team is pissed off bc you're murdering them, and then you get autod. I got voted out for that shit once
I've been playing tf2 since 2014, the old balancing system with team scramble votes, and the team selection screens and all are such nice memories of the game for me, I would give ANYTHING to have thosee times back. I may have sunk a thousand hours of my time playing the game during mid school years, instead of making friends or doing anything productive... and I don't regret it at all. The feeling of discovering the game for the first time was so magical, it's sort of undescribable but now I think that even if I never played the game to this day it wouldn't be the same thing because how much the game has changed... for the worse. The map pool, the casual experience, the weapon meta... everything has just been drained by Valve of the pure fun and joy it used to give me....
Now, say it with me: “Autobalance is god, autobalance decides our fate. Autobalance is life, autobalance chooses the lesser for the great. We say these words, in remembrance of he, the autobalance lord. Gabe Newell, controller of the leaderboard.”
I like your suggestions, but also adding in the ability to pick teams is nice too. Allowing people to only attack or only defend is just as worthwile if they want to switch teams. And we can't really pretend that casual should be anything more than community servers really. Although I do love Joey's hidden realm, thanks for the free month!
I think that the Auto-Balance shouldn't seperate players who are in a party with each other because from experience it ruins the fun for the person because they have to play against their friend instead of playing with them lile they wanted to
But in some cases, you want to play against your friend, for achievements, or just so you can kill each other, but I think a pop up or notice would be nice
I remember I was playing as medic and this one soldier got team swapped FOUR times, I know because he was on the mic a lot (in a good way) and for periods of time he’d just go silent then you hear him be like “I’m back to red for who know how long”
The old way still seemed the best to me because there was nothing like the schadenfreude of realizing your team lacked players and then priority killing their top guy just to bring him over to your end and down to your level was hilarious.
"You can be team switched anypoint" Not really most of time its during near end where other team about to capture final point -_- which always happens cause other team starts leaving i think instead of forcing Good players maybe put players who has less activity, like kills, assist, deads etc, just damn dont put playes who were actually trying
@@the_bigfriv9401 you know theres just no perfect way to balance game, also is not about being weak or not its about not ruining people who are actually playing, so rather putting someone with less kills to other team, its better put someone who does maybe good as defense or attacker in position of winning to losing ? its just fact thats why people leave alot everytime this happens

When you get autobalanced 3 times during the same round, each time literally stomping the other team from your last to their last. Why autobalance me when I am the one creating the unbalance? Bruv deez cAsUaLs
Here’s my idea, bring back the first ever autobalance, and when teams are unbalanced, ask for volunteers and if they do, they’ll be allowed to switch back. Team scrambles are a thing except ineffective until round is over. Don’t scramble or ask people in parties. Don’t force balance for 2 minute.
I used to play on the old FP servers a lot (24/7 dustbowl baby!) and they had a system where the server would detect if a team was rolling pretty hard and would auto scramble the teams at the end of the round. Players could still switch whenever they wanted and I would often go to spectate in order to eventually get back on a team with my friends but for the most part it worked pretty well. You could also vote scramble and auto balance would still happen from time to time but I don’t remember a scramble ever taking place during a round, it was always at the end
Add some kind of medal or hat that levels up when you voluntarily switch teams for balance, like the heart medal where the heart gets bigger the more gifts you give. People would probably love to level those things up.
While those ideas are good, I think there's a couple other ones that could help more: > Force a swap on a player *after* they have died. > Don't swap players who are the leaders of each team (IE top 3 players). > Don't swap Engineers with an active teleporter that's teleported someone within the last 10 seconds. > Allow players to spectate instead of being forced to join another team. These are so that pivotal players aren't swapped and don't have their experience ruined. Being in the middle of an ubercharged push into the enemy as the top scoring player and being autobalanced before the ubercharge wears off isn't fun. One drawback of the autobalance system is it *encourages leaving*. Players who are forced onto the losing team, and whom believe that regardless of their personal skill that they'll still lose are likely to quit themselves, which doesn't really balance the game but instead just starts cropping the player count. Allowing spectate again can help two things: First is that TF2 has a cheater problem. Second is that a player in spectate isn't helping a specific team can allow the teams to balance out by new players joining rather than cannibalizing existing players. > Offer a special key voucher if you get autobalanced and stay in and active during the game. (Only on official valve servers, and only for premium accounts). This might be something like, playing 10 games to the end after autobalance (and not afking or leaving) and getting a free non-tradable key. It won't be a lot, but it'd also be a way to earn keys without paying, and thus might be enough incentive for players to join the other team besides just the fake experience points that don't do anything. With a key you can get new cosmetics and even unusuals. Regarding matchmaking, valve should do a composite between the average score of the player at the end of each game, combined with trying to match players based off hours played (Sub 100 hours, 100~999 hours, and 1000+ hours). If you matched say 4 players with over 1000 hours, 4 players with 100-999 hours, and 4 players with sub 100 hours per team, there'd be a decent chance of it being balanced. To better select that, valve could collect details on the average scoring of each player per bracket and if someone falls too low or too high for their respective bracket they get changed.
Auto Balance should work like this: •Cannot auto balance on the final point or within the final 20% + 30 seconds of the game's duration •If the bigger team is also winning, asks everyone on the bigger team first •If nobody volunteers, forces auto balance •Players will auto balance once they die and have an instant respawn •Players who auto balance always recieve a 1.5 XP multiplier and an additional 500 XP bonus (not affected by multiplier) •Prioritizes players who have joined the latest within 60 seconds ago, then engineers with buildings that all add up to a combined total of 3 levels or less, then the second best performing player overall in that order

Tip: type in the console “ retry “ to avoid being autobalenced by reconnecting to the server on the same team
A small score to pay for salvation
I'm not gonna lie cuz after playing for a while levels just becomes useless so putting retry is really cheap
Yeah but sometimes it doesnt even warn you and you get autobalanced instantly
@Aldi Kezh if you look closely you can see the warning
That doesn't help when I'm at 98% uber and getting autobalanced.
Here’s a few suggestions I think would be... interesting for balancing teams
- Add bots into the unbalanced team(as Long as its not a full 12 team) though I see issues from this where bots are kinda dumb sometimes and might not help
- Reduce the respawn time for the losing team.
- The losing team will spawn with maxed overhead
My biggest gripe is that the current system splits parties way too often. I like to play with friends and every 7/10 games...I checked...the party got split. They should give a hat or weapon drop as a reward for forced switching.
fun fact! That's by design. The current system prioritises Party members for balancing. Stupid, right?
hayden barnes keep party members together coming soon.
No they must give the kick
In payload match:
*Overtime
Me: kalm
*You'll move to BLU team in 5 seconds
Me: *P A N I K*
Type "retry" in the console, saved me from auto balance once
To stop autobalance, or have less possibilities of being switched, watch out the chat, whenver iit says something about autobalance, HIDE AND DONT DIE. But don't even go to a ressuply or respawn room.
Autobalance when it moves you to the losing team: "retry" in dev console
Autobalance when it moves you to the *winning* team: Ight, its time to do nothing.
Yeah it's player's fault all over again in the end, they always want to be greedy
@@bruschetta7711 no it isnt the playerw fault
Lorenzo Centurelli imagine carrying an entire team and when you are about to win, you get auto balanced and the game just throws away all of your work and effort
@@purifiedwater4217 that really sucks! Even if i'm in the loosing team and get autobalanced to the winnings at the end sucks too honestly. For me Tf2 is not about winning or loosing. Its all about teamwork. Struggle to help anothers continue the game is the only reason i play Tf2. I dont care about exp that much. I just want to finish the game decently. 500 exp at the end contributes nothing. Valve should add at least 1500 exp or drop a freaking item to the one who got raped by this awful autobalanced system !

yeah, whenever I'm playing with my friends and one of us gets auto-balanced, we just go find another game since we can't regroup. Not trying to ruin the match by making it less balanced like that, but I just want to play with my friends.

Dread it, run from it.
Autobalance still arrives
I like Joey's system, but lets add a few things to it:
1. The offer to all for voluntary balance is first come first serve and maybe not fully simultaneous.
2. Autobalance can be turned off in a public or casual server.
3. Random crits can be turned off for any server.

Meet your match update trailer.
from the meet your match intro sfm here is the link ruclips.net/video/gvuqLylQOoE/видео.html
Here is an idea: on top optional team switching with a level scaling reward, the lossing team should get a brief 10-20 seconds of crits (like CTF) when the teams are severely imbalanced.
5:50 Yep, we've been in these times where our team was about to win and just ...

I'm loving the new intro you got there Joey.
the amount of times ive been in a squad with my mates and im the only one whos balanced and my mates only target me making me wanting to leave, 90% of the time one of us would get balanced and all 4 of us would leave making one team unbalanced again since 3 of us were on 1 team and 1 on the other completely negating the balance they just did
“Hey, Hey! Cut that out! A U T O - B A L A N C E!”
I see you like tf2 chocolate bars as well.
Let's make a red velvet cake.
My favorite form of auto balance was that brief and glorious time it didn't exist
That intro shows us THICC JOEY
Joey does the best proposals of ideas of controversial topics and touchy game mechanics. Hes really passive, but also interested in change. Interested in compromise. He'll also tell us the truth; the reason why the controversial thing is important. Love you! Stay LARGE!
0:02 damn Joey be thicc ngl
Oh yes, old autobalance. Where scrambles were constantly rejected and curbstomped players bailed out in droves at the end of a round. And replacements arriving to the server to see a stacked enemy team also left before the next round began. The server would continue to bleed players until the stomping team was forcibly broken in half just to have players on both sides. That autobalance.
Tf2: auto balance
Thanos: did someone say balance?
As all things should be
I wouldn't mind it that much if they DIDN'T SPLIT UP MY DAMN PARTY
They could fix the current system by checking for 3 things first:
1. Do you have buildings up
2. Are you alive
3. Are you in a party
If you answered yes to any of these, you won’t be auto balanced
You know that player get auto balance because they died just like in the video right?
@@g2ltt733 No, that was golden TF2. Currently, you are walking around, getting metal to restock your level 3 sentry among your level 3 engy nest...

IVE BEEN AUTOBALANCED WHILE CARRYING THE 3RD INTEL BACK TO MY BASE
*WHILE IN MY INTEL*
oh brother. I feel your pain xD
oh shit, I once got autobalance at my favor in a ctf_sawmill. There was an engi with frontier justice and a medic ready to drop uber. We tried many times but many people didn't want to help or just can't. So the medic got autobalanced while our heavy was carrying the intel. We easly kill the engi and then proceed to do same thing in their base.
Small brain: Big Joey

I remember playing as Pyro on Upward. I was doing amazing, and I think everyone on the blue team hated me tbh. I was doing this for a good, long while, and then, as soon as I finally get killed at like 5 seconds left, I’m immediately autobalanced, and ended up being on the losing team in the end.
Fucking hate autobalance.
Nice new intro dude
Yk what's the worst? When you go on a 10 ks as sniper, the whole enemy team is pissed off bc you're murdering them, and then you get autod. I got voted out for that shit once
I mean can understand it, it not fun to get your head popped every second, especially when bot hour are high
@@g2ltt733 True. It's fun for me though lol
would be nice if it considered "there are 2 seconds left and my team is about to win" before autobalancing
0:24 what is this vidoe right here?
Now, say it with me:
“Autobalance is god, autobalance decides our fate. Autobalance is life, autobalance chooses the lesser for the great. We say these words, in remembrance of he, the autobalance lord. Gabe Newell, controller of the leaderboard.”

Ah, I See You're a Man of Culture As Well.
A U T O B A L A N C E
I’ll take that autobalance experience any day of the week
I think that the Auto-Balance shouldn't seperate players who are in a party with each other because from experience it ruins the fun for the person because they have to play against their friend instead of playing with them lile they wanted to
But in some cases, you want to play against your friend, for achievements, or just so you can kill each other, but I think a pop up or notice would be nice
I remember I was playing as medic and this one soldier got team swapped FOUR times, I know because he was on the mic a lot (in a good way) and for periods of time he’d just go silent then you hear him be like “I’m back to red for who know how long”
The people who prefer the current system...imagine being objectively wrong.
The old way still seemed the best to me because there was nothing like the schadenfreude of realizing your team lacked players and then priority killing their top guy just to bring him over to your end and down to your level was hilarious.
"You can be team switched anypoint"
Not really most of time its during near end where other team about to capture final point -_- which always happens cause other team starts leaving
i think instead of forcing Good players maybe put players who has less activity, like kills, assist, deads etc, just damn dont put playes who were actually trying
Putting those with almost no activity might not even do anything.
It just ends up being good/strong players vs new/weak players becoming a pub stomp.
@@XXSefa Let's suppose you are a new guy who is playing spy but doesn't know how to stab effectively or sap without being noticed. But you are still trying to help your team, doing calls since you're almost always invisible, making the other people know that there are spies around and creating paranoia and openings on their defense. Those kinds of things don't go to the scoreboard, is just psychological but you are still helping your team, and they're thankful for it. Then you get auto-balanced to the other team, you try to do the same and people start to scream at you for not doing anything, telling you to shut up. I know it s preety farfetched, but this might ruin someone's experience.
@@LetsGoToTheHeaven i know thats why literally theres no perfect way to balance this came, the scenario is so far from knowing what and type of players selected, even thanos cant perfectly balance this game, i am like guy you expain, i do well as medic and not much of a casual player and it does ruin experience but in end i am like whatever,

Omg I thought his intro was going to change and he wouldn’t have that weird vintage shis at the end. Holyyyyy
i actually REEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAALLY hope valve sees this. it actually sounds very good
Here’s my idea, bring back the first ever autobalance, and when teams are unbalanced, ask for volunteers and if they do, they’ll be allowed to switch back.
Very good video, hopefully when Valve returns to us they look at this
I have lost count of the amount of times I’ve been swapped to the losing team midway through capping the final point as the only medic on my team.
Add some kind of medal or hat that levels up when you voluntarily switch teams for balance, like the heart medal where the heart gets bigger the more gifts you give. People would probably love to level those things up.
While those ideas are good, I think there's a couple other ones that could help more:
> Force a swap on a player *after* they have died.
Auto Balance should work like this:
•Cannot auto balance on the final point or within the final 20% + 30 seconds of the game's duration
•If the bigger team is also winning, asks everyone on the bigger team first
•If nobody volunteers, forces auto balance
•Players will auto balance once they die and have an instant respawn
•Players who auto balance always recieve a 1.5 XP multiplier and an additional 500 XP bonus (not affected by multiplier)
•Prioritizes players who have joined the latest within 60 seconds ago, then engineers with buildings that all add up to a combined total of 3 levels or less, then the second best performing player overall in that order
imagine getting notified 3 days later for this video
