JILL, the violinist, is a bona fide graduate of the number 1 music university in Japan with awards from competitions and perfect pitch. She is a real deal. The bassist Ogawa no using pick from my guess is due to the fact that he ONLY play Jazz prior to joining UM. FUKI (vocal) is the band founder and is probably the best female metal singer in Japan. She has an amazing range and love her voice color. She is a genius. Shiren (g Left) is the other founder and composes almost all songs. He is classically trained in Piano as well. Fumiya (drums) is an animal. He also plays piano. They are all JEDI level musicians.

@@TheCyberMantis Asami certainly is a fantastic singer. However, I don't like her enunciation. The way she phrases the words make it very hard for me to hear. And all their songs are in English. It's the same when she sings in Japanese. So, it's not the language that's the issue for me.
As for Yuko, she is a awesome singer. I like Wagaki as well.

According to Fuki, she has not had any training. She said it's a style her mother used to sing around the house when Fuki was young, and Fuki just coppied her mothers style. So she has always sung like that, even at school.
Jill start to play violin when she was 3, her brother was learning to play, so she wanted to do what he was doing. Her 1st teacher did not bother with sheet music, so she taught by ear, which is why she claims to be able to hear the pitch of rain hitting the ground. She is a Tokyo University of the Arts graduate, where she finished top of the year. Jill is in a band with her brother, Louie, who is not as good as Jill on violin, he mainly sings. Rose Noire - Dual Evil ruclips.net/video/PksL8gYlKFE/видео.html While they have not done anything for a while, I believe the band is still going, well it's hard to break up a band that's only brother and sister (that get on well together).
Ogawa on bass is really a jazz bassist. He went to the same music college in Tokyo at the same time as Shiren, were they became friends. So when Unlucky Morpheus were starting out as a 2 member band (Shiren and Fuki) and the fans want to see them live, Shiren asked Ogawa to help out, and then when the band went full time in 2016, he was asked to join them. Ogawa was a protégé of Mikio Fujioka (Babymetal's Kami Band), they were in a band called Trick Box ruclips.net/video/PFbL9wEjucA/видео.html

This track is a cover/rework of track of the media series Touhou (wiki Touhou project for more info). Unlucky Morpheus originally started out with just Shiren (guitar player stage left, right of the screen) and Fuki as a doujin band (from what I understand hobbyists/fans who release their works for other fans) covering songs by that franchise, so they have plenty. They have also rerecorded a bunch of them after all the members joined and even have an acoustic album that have some of them in a completely different setting. I don't know that much about the Touhou series but I am pretty sure there is a lot of fanwork of it from manga to games and music and that most original music is completely electronic so they have plenty of work reworking them into a metal track.
Even though there are 6 people in the band nowdays, they still have that doujin mindset and are a completely independent band that do most stuff themselves if possible. I read that Fuki even creates some of the costumes they wear on stage. Also, I am pretty sure Fuki is a self-taught singer actually but I might get corrected on that. But yes all of the musicians in this band are incredible. Jill is basically a classically trained violinist, the bass player Ogawa is a jazz bassist and both guitarist and the drummer have played in plenty of other projects and bands and are masters of their craft.

This is maybe, no most definitely one of my favourite pieces of music ever.
    EVER.
It's a masterpiece and nearly always makes me cry cause it's just SO GOOD.
Also, you're not THAT far off.
The song is based on the theme music of the sixth boss of the seventh game of the Touhou Project, a long-running Japanese indie game franchise. The boss in question, Yuyuko, is a ghost princess who has the power to command the spirits of the deceased and "invite" others to their death (i.e., just straigh up kill them). She's one of the most tragic figures in the series due to her committing suicide because she couldn't deal with her powers while she was still alive, and Unlucky Morpheus' arrangement of the theme and the lyrics harken back to that.
She's also my favourite character in the series and thus, my profile picture :P
Here is the original if you're interested: ruclips.net/video/Zis2TtxdFjQ/видео.html

A pick on the bass unique? Not in Japan! Lovebites=both Miho and Fami uses the fingers, bassplayers in Asterism, Galneryus and so many other bands have bassplayers that uses their fingers instead of a pick

    • @bobcieslinski
      @bobcieslinski  Год назад

Yep finger style is more Moab stream except for really hard music because they have to play such quick bites and they are usually repeated so it makes sense to pick it and go with both an up and down stroke.

I forgot to add, and hopefully someone else will correct me, but Fuki does fashion designing, and often makes the bands costumes, which are reflective of a certain fashion genre (this is where I need a bit of help, lol), which is in some respects a lifestyle. The band is also unsigned, so they manage themselves, and seem happy to play in smaller venues.

Wake up, get hot coffee (btw, I pick up my new coffee cup today from your merchandise store!), and have a nice reaction video waiting. Couldn't ask for a better start! As I had mentioned, this song just kind of showcased everyone. There are others, like Dance to Eternity that is excellent in musicianship, and I had read the band was not sure they could even do it live, but they did. I don't know much about Fuki's background, I believe I once read she was somewhat self taught singing around her mom but she uses the more traditional Japanese vibrato technique, which I think works perfectly for the band. I have heard her tone that down, so she can be soft if needed. She is one of the few that can head bang while singing. The entire band was more concentrated in the anime scene, so you are correct in that. It wasn't until more recently that they began to create their own songs, and they really blossomed when Jill (violin) joined as she has expanded their musicality. I borrowed this from another post:
Shiren - Purple guitar player that also does vocals sometimes (growling but also clean style). He founded the band alongside Fuki. He has also played in many bands like Undead Corporation (played for both Unlucky Morpheus and Undead Corporation at the same time till 2015), Icaru's Cry, Babymetal and many others. He has been battling with tenosynovitis and so often his guitar is on a stand or Jill plays his role when he can't play at all. Evidently his condition is thankfully getting better.
Jinya - The other guitar player, he also played in other bands including Undead Corporation
Ogawa - The bass player. Jazz background, was the only member from the band that wasn't into metal before.
Fumiya - The drummer. One of the very best and in some Galneryus songs. He was playing in Galneryus and UM at the same time from 2016 till 2020.
They have their own style of music, so they cannot be compared to Lovebites in genre, but I do believe in musicianship they are comparable, and they have Jill, lol. For me, they also have a much more energetic stage presence. During Covid Jill, Jinya, Fumiya and Ogawa formed a 4 person outlying instrumental band called Quadratum, usually displaying Jill's amazing violin work. Thanks for the review!
When you get to Tears of Tragedy, well, it will be different, lol. And Yousei Teikoku is another anime band, so not in the US mainstream of music.
