It’s a brilliant layout oscar, it shows how devoted you are now and that the toy of choice in that era still works today. It’s sad that a lot of children back then lost interest, if it was due to the computer game, the lack of variation that everyone had a railway, I’ll never know. But I’m 14 and absolutely love Tri-and and Tri-ang Hornby, I have quite a few models now and they are in my opinion, more functional and more inviting than the price tags today. Glad you found interest again Oscar, there are loads of people out there who want to see these collectibles running and you bring happiness to loads of us every Sunday! It’s what the rest of the week is for, to make us more excited! At least that’s how I think. Many thanks for showing us Will
Good morning William I’m really pleased to hear that you’re enjoying seeing my railway in action with its collection of older model locomotives and rolling stock. It’s really great to hear you have an interest in these items from the past. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to write this really fantastic comment it’s hugely appreciated thanks again. Oscar
@@oscarpaisley I find that you do get more 'play value'. They look very good, nothing easily breaking off and have functional, easy to service mechanisms. I feel better seeing a loco running when i have fixed it and made it work well than straight out a new box from China. Love these models, they really do drag you in to wanting more. Thanks again, Will.
Flexibility is a perfect description of your layout. I'm amazed how the tracks enable you to achieve the movements you manage to show to us. And the fact that you've kept a record of the evolution is just a bonus. Very good luck on your future plans.
“The Duchess was completely unharmed by the experience” a line both from Downton Abbey, and also excludes a statement in the damage inflicted on the floorboards! A great videos return to often when I revise my own layout.
As someone who went from DC to DCC, it is incredible that a railway modeller like you found a way to make DC still be interesting in this digital age, especially with those rare Triang Catenaries (which unlike the majority aren't just for show)! Keep up the great work!
Good morning, good enjoy the videos and enjoyed seeing what I’ve done with the layout. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to leave these great comments. Oscar
Awesome video, I really enjoy them. Great to have an insight into your plans and the layouts history. Your videos always feel quite intimate and I get absorbed and feel like I’m enjoying them as much as you! Keep them coming! 😁👍👊
Many thanks for explaining the timeline behind your layout, Oscar, as well as replying to me some months ago as to the 10x5 dimensions. It's great to hear that new developments might be in the wind. Keep up the great work, it's always a pleasure to see the layout and continued history of Tri-ang, with any extension or 're-jigging' only ever adding to greater running time and obvious enjoyment; way-to-go! Speaking of your EM-2, I have one in less than pristine order, body shell only, but hopefully one day will be able to resurrect it with a decent power platform and bring it back to life. Thanks once again for this video explaining your layout, Oscar, it is gratefully appreciated. Thanks again, Greg, NZ.
Good morning Greg thanks again for watching and it’s great to hear you’ve enjoyed seeing how the layout was developed. I’ve had a great deal of fun along the way bringing the layout to the stage. I’ve got many plans and ideas I want to try in the future with my railway which involve many Triang Hornby items and some Hornby Double. I’m hoping this is going to make for some interesting videos. Your EM2 sounds like a great project are you planning a more contemporary power unit or restore into its original form? Oscar
Hi Oscar, Thank you for sharing your collection... A lot of us involved in the fine-scale end of the hobby wish that we could get running that is as reliable as that demonstrated in this video! Backing a train of that length through complicated pointwork shows just how good your track laying is. Best of luck with the new layout. Ken
A fascinating video by all accounts Oscar , especially in the way that you have documented and explained the history of the layout and the volume of work that has been undertaken in its evolution . It is the vintage aspect of your layout which gives it the appeal , and its great to hear that more plans are afoot !
Hello Oscar, Seeing how your layout has evolved was very interesting, it will be exciting times for all of us who enjoy your videos seeing the next stage, I'm glad you made this video. Pushing that rake of wagons was very impressive, especially over the point work. Best regards to you
Good afternoon Mr snooze glad to hear enjoy the video, as you might imagine I was quite pleased with pushing that rake of wagons around the layout in one take. I’m looking forward to Changing the layout I have a number of things I want to do along the way. I’m hoping everyone will find this interesting as it progresses. Thanks again for watching it’s hugely appreciated. Oscar
As I'm still catching up, its fascinating to see how your interest was reignited with a gift for your son. I think it's great that a collection can have more than just intrinsic value with the added interest of building and running it. Absolutely Terrific how you've combined it all into a video library 💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫💫
Good morning Tim thanks again for watching I’m glad you’re enjoying watching the older videos. It certainly was a surprise to me when I found I was interested in model railways again! Take care. Oscar
@@oscarpaisleyHello Oscar. I enjoy watching your videos immensely. Brings back happy memories of a few Triang trains and some old track given to me by an Uncle and Cousin. Gave me a lot of enjoyment and paved the way for later life. In the process now of building a small layout in the attic.
The same scenario almost. Mine came back during the first lockdown and the two Boys got involved. The latout keeps developing and levels are added. Very useful background video.
It’s magnificent Oscar. I have just set up a layout on my living room floor. I haven’t done that for perhaps 40 or more years. What a joy it was. I’m using peco set track. I have one complete loop and a half with two passing places. My one loco is a Lima Flying Banana. Very modest in comparison to yours, but it’s made me feel so happy to relive my childhood days .... My Very Best Wishes ...
Wow Oscar you've done a great job and I still look forward to each of your videos each week . I really enjoy them. It's always a walk down memory lane .😁
Astonishing collection that runs like a Swiss watch. The focus upon track and train (minimalist scenery) creates its own ambience. I had a chuckle, running two trains whilst trying to film is asking for trouble. Fortunately, the buffer bars have spared any injury, but the have not smacked the delicate side rods, so far, knock on wood. Definitely sets the bar for Hornby-Triang collecting.
Good morning Geoff yes keeping track of two trains running at the same time is a bit tricky whilst trying to look through a camera. Great to hear you’re enjoying seeing some of the collection in action. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar
@@oscarpaisley I will be visiting often. This is one of the very few layouts and collections of this calibre I have seen to date, and I spend a lot of time web surfing looking at train collections. Finding yours was a happy accident. It is so VERY hard to keep focused on one thing, as there is so much out there to distract one. I have some marvelous vintage Triang, which I adore, but it doesn't look terribly good along side a recent issue what with its higher level of detail and scale. When I film, I have to choose one or the other, or it just looks dodgey. You have done which many of us have failed at: sticking to a vintage and in this case a manufacturer. Again, the minimalist scenery only serves to underscore the beautiful Triang models- that is a terrific move, on your part. Hats off! See you soon in these pages!
A great video on the development of your layout Oscar, I realy like and enjoy yours and Barry Davies train set layouts, brings happy memories of my childhood. Thanks for sharing your collection with us all.
Good morning Stephen great to hear and enjoyed seeing the development of my model railway. You mention Barrie Davies, I love his channel he has a lovely railway with a terrific collection. Thanks for watching. Oscar
Fantastic video Oscar, I still have most of my original trainset from 1958 and what's more they still go but on very late model track, all nickel, a great history lesson in layout development, thankyou from down under in New Zealand
Good afternoon Jed, thanks again for watching I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the development of my railway. It’s really nice to know that you still have many of your original items. Oscar
Thanks for telling your layouts story it was very interesting. I have that very same track plan book but never got to build anything out of it, the plan you chose a a bases was one I liked as well.
Hi Rob, great to hear you have the track plans book. It always good fun looking through these imagining "what if's!" just like the catalogues and "if I had that I could do that!" an important part of the hobby. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video. Oscar
It’s a great layout Oscar , I’ve said it umpteen times , an essential part of my Sunday mornings . Looking forward to see how your layout progresses . I just remember the great layouts from the Tri-ang Hornby catalogues and yours very definitely remind me of these . Great days . Somewhat surprised you left the hobby and have only relatively recently come back to it . I suppose I never grew up . My first trainset laid out on the dining table was a Tri-ang Freightmaster in 1965 with the “Brush Type 2” I never lost interest . Always had a trainset in some form . Finally made it up the loft in the “new house” now some 30 years ago . What I realised eventually was that I wasnt trying to model real railways , but the railways of the Tri-ang Hornby catalogues . I think my layout does pick up the atmosphere of that time, although using newer track , and I still run my old models , as well as some of the latest releases . I just keep on buying trains! Thanks for the channel . Love it
Good morning Russell, great to hear you've had model railway over all those years. You have mentioned in a number of past comments some of the great memories you have accosted with items in you collection, I think this is really important part of the hobby which is often over looked. The memories of the items I had in childhood have got a lot to answer for! Thanks again for watching and taking the time to leave this terrific comment. Oscar
Hi Oscar, Great video on the evolution of your layout and your interest in model railways. Almost all of my locos and rolling stock are the same vintage as yours apart from some 2 rail HD so can relate fully to the era. I look forward with interest to seeing the taking down of the layout and progression of the new one. About a year ago I laid a 6x4 oval and some sidings on the dining room table prior to knee surgery. This was to preserve some sanity as I couldn’t get into the loft to try and build something more serious, e.g. the Caley station in Edinburgh in the 1950s and branch lines down to the Port of Leith. Six months later I have had another knee done and mobility and flexibility are not my strong point however hoping to get up there soon and always getting some inspiration from your videos and experience.
Good afternoon Gordon great to hear you’ve got your railway on the dining room table for to keep you going, It sounds like you have a great collection. I think the dreaming and planning of what we might do in the future with model railways it’s all part of the fun. Thanks for watching and taking the time to write a great comment. Oscar
Excellent as ever....... to say I loved it was an understatement. Your layout is a credit to you and your tenacity. You know we must be the same age.....48-49 ish.....so i can appreciate the love of railways, then the other interests you had during your older teens. It seems to me if you have already taken over a dining room....just extend it until the walls!! Good luck and God bless your heart for those like minded guys and girls that appreciate Triang / Hornby railways for the 'play value'. PS your video was the first i watched having driven over 1000km over the weekend to a funeral to represent my African wife who is stuck in the UK.... mostly over sand/ gravel roads. Best regards Maurice, Okahandja, Namibia.
Good morning Maurice, great to hear you have enjoyed this video, your right the new base board should go out to the walls, I'm considering having it run around at least 3 of the walls with boards extending out to about 3ft (92cm). I'm playing around with some measurements at present. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to write this wonderful comment, its hugely appreciated. Oscar
4:47 I used to have a table layout with a downhill section and the track at the bottom very close to the edge and my Bachmann Union Pacific 0-6-0 fell off and broke its front off made its cylinders loose. But that loco still runs today. I got rid of the table layout in 2015 when we re-did the basement it was in
Good morning glad to hear locomotive was alright after its fall. Sounds great that you have the railway running around your basement now. Many thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar
Hi Oscar, after watching ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ last night your video is perfect to continue that 70s vibe!! I can’t imagine what could possibly have distracted you from Triang Hornby trains when you entered your teens but I hope it was worth it(!!) Your layout would certainly have been my dream (along with Catherine Bach of course) and I’m looking forward to seeing it develop in the future.... Would love to see the iron ore loader incorporated as this was always my fave operating accessory. Enjoy the rest of this hot and sultry Sunday- time for coffee and a croissant I think:-))
Good morning Ned it was definitely hot on Saturday sadly I missed the movie. I was disappointed not to be able to have gravity unloading bridge in the current layout so will be definitely experimenting with it in the near future. Thanks again for watching. Oscar
Hello all the way from the USA. For the past several weeks, I've been watching all your videos since your first upload. Even though the Triang Hornby trains are before my time, I find them to be very interesting and fun to watch. And the sound they make, when running, is very pleasant and satisfying. Just comes to show you that with proper maintenance, they will last for many years if not decades. I definitely look forward to seeing your new layout as it comes along. I don't really plan to get any of the Triang Hornby trains, but I will definitely be looking forward to seeing more new videos. The trains from Hornby Railroad range (like what comes in the Midland Flyer Starter Set), as well as other OO gauge trains currently on the market are good enough for me. Also, I found some of your videos to be very helpful and informative. Thanks for sharing your love for the model railway hobby. Cheers -Raymond
Good morning Raymond it’s great to hear you’ve been enjoying the videos of these older English model railway items. They are great fun to run and as you say make a beautiful noise when in motion. I do have a Midland Flyer set! It’s what started my collection off in the first place my son was given one when he was very young. And it brought back memories of the model railway items I had as a child... From what I’ve read Tri-ang Hornby items are fairly hard to find in United States. I think they did try quite hard to break into the American market back in the early days, but without a great deal of success. I think more success was had with the Canadian market. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it’s hugely appreciated. Oscar
Hi oscar my ivatt a green one ran not so great...as the tender kept coming off when running tender first. I had to swap the rear wheel for one off a texaco tanker as the flanges were longer to keep it on the track.
Good morning that sounds annoying sometimes it’s the back to back with those wheels you need a little spacer between the two sleeved wheels on the axle. I do this sometimes with the very early models with a Mk2 couplings it helps out through the point work. thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it hugely appreciated. Oscar
Thanks Tony glad you’re enjoying the videos and I think we’re going to have some great fun with the railway over the next few months. Thanks for watching and hugely appreciated. Oscar
Hi Oscar I been watching a lot of your vidieos and I find you do a fantastic job in executing them. You have given me lots of inspiration in getting my old Triang super 4 track out and start setting it all out but in need of restoration too. I also in the process of getting a layout with Peco track a bit more up to date system think I have got my work cut .
Good morning Michael thanks for watching it's great to hear you're enjoying watching the videos. Sounds like you're having a great time developing a railway. Take care. Oscar
I trust, after that long session of propelling trucks, you have a smug grin on your face because its well-earned! That did look good and a credit to the tracklaying. I look forward to finding out your plans for change and development. Somone else has already mentioned the hopper bridge so take this as a supporting request!
Hi Andrew Glad you enjoyed that, definitely worth a grin as you say! I think the hopper unloading bridge is on the cards. I was disappointed not to be able to include one on the current layout. And I’ve avoided trying to demonstrate it on the carpet railway, too many elements to bring together! Thanks again. Oscar
Hi Oscar, it’s lovely to see how your layout has developed and has even made me become interested in triang too! Maybe with your new layout you could use an oval of system 6 track with the newer hornby railways catenary to use with your class 86 (the hornby electric you mentioned near the beginning) and maybe use some of the other Hornby electrics like the class 90, class 91 or even Lima’s class 87.
Hi Matthew glad you enjoyed the video I think I’ll definitely be using some system 6 in future a few videos and I do have a little of the later Catenary you mention. Thanks for watching. Oscar
@@oscarpaisley Glad to see your layout is Super Four. I HATED system 6 it just seemed so flimsy. I stuck with Super Four until I went to Peco Streamline nickel silver... great layout mate.
Evening Oscar. You’ve created every little boys dream looking in the Hornby catalog dreaming of what they’re like 😀 Well done for saving all this train stuff to running condition 👍🏻
Good morning Oscar. Really enjoyed today's video. (Infact i am going to watch it again ). I am sort of Basing my layout on yours as you have it now. So looking forward to seeing your future changes, hope it all goes well. Terry
Good afternoon Terry great to hear enjoy the video, I hope your layout development is going well. I think it’s a really exciting time planning the things that you want to do and put them into practice and learning new things along the way. All great fun, thanks again for watching. Oscar
Another great video Oscar. If you have to change anything, you could add a few retail and residential buildings next to the station e.g. Triang Real Estate or Model-Land examples.
I have seen your earlier layout in some of your older videos and wondered what the history was, now we know. Exciting times ahead, your coal loading stage perhaps? The Ivatt with those wagons was so smooth and not a single derailment, even when pushing. At least on the video anyway :-) Great fun as always. Cheers
Always enjoy a Sunday morning cup of coffee with toast and marmalade watching your models. Very interesting to see how your layout developed. Play-value wise, one of those bottom unloading hoppers would be good. A Freightliner crane would look impressive too, depending on how much extra space you have. Will continue to watch with interest, Oscar.
Good afternoon Peter, I tried very hard to work in the gravity unloading bridge for the hopper wagons on the current layout, I just could not fit it in working around that inside circuit! Its high on the list for a video once there is some space available and for inclusion as a new layout comes together. Thanks again for watching. Oscar
Such an interesting video Oscar - thank you so much. Until I get my 'round the room' boards built (very small room !) I have a carpet layout of Super 4 oval plus sidings and outer oval of nickel code 100. Great fun and I'm 60 (apparently). Your films are essential viewing - thank you again.
Good morning Pete it sounds like you’ve got a terrific railway with great plans, keep having fun. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it’s hugely appreciated Oscar
Hi Oscar, yes I was the, same around 14 I lost interest in model railways and took up 'Bird watching hmmmm ,it was 1982 ,ABC,spandu ballet,Duran Duran in the charts and these lovely girls which you grew up with all of a sudden become WOW,hehe, when my son was born I started collecting again I could go into beaties at high holbon with my baby son buy a locomotive and say it's for him the man behind the jump knowing it really was for me and my wife going yeh ok,he's 29 now and amazed over 500 models all for him mind ,Not ,looking forward to new developments to your layout and that loco you said caught the centenary was a class 86 remember a few weeks ago I spoke about you getting one ,take care mate and all the best ,Mark 😃
Hi Oscar ,, iv only just managed to see this video now 2 years after you made it. I may have watched bits of it a fair while ago but im an expert at falling asleep (not just your videos but all videos haha) during videos. Iv been collecting an absolute heap of super 4 track (i have 1and a half 60 litre tubs full of it) and i will use it but will the other later trains like the vic rail S class and gm commonwealth hornby trains run on the super 4 along with some of the lima/hornby indian pacific and southern auroras trains i will be running. Also do they still sell the convertor tracks from super 4 to super 6 track or will it be 1 of them make my own convertor track as i can do that if need be. Any advice from you (or anyone) will be muchly appreciated. Cheers from john in Australia.
Good morning John great to hear about your large collection of Super 4 track, the converter tracks were originally made in 1966 to help people with the conversion from Hornby Dublo to Super 4 I think it was brought back into production again in the early 70s when Hornby phased out Super 4 in favour of system 6 from what I read modifications were made to at this point to get a better fit with Hornby's new track and seems to have been in the catalogue until 1983. Pat Hammonds book indicates that 630,000 of these convert a rails R.476 with made between 72 and 83. There seems to be plenty of them available on that well-known auction site. Thanks again take care. Oscar
Thanks Oscar for the video. Was very interesting to see how it developed and looking forward to seeing the changes you may make in the future. If you have room please could you consider adding some Minic Motorway? It was very much part of the Triang Railway system and there are some great items that you could incorporate such as the level crossings, road/rail sections and the car transporter wagons!
Good afternoon, I currently have no Minic Motorway. I've been avoiding falling into collecting it! as you say its a great range with some fantastic items. Maybe one day! Thanks again. Oscar
At 3.30 I think I saw a Triang P5 Power Controller. Now I have one of those that I saved up for in 1955. It still works today ! Its strange that your "railway story" is remarkably similar to mine. My P5 controls an authentic version of Bournemouth West, Brockenhurst and a very nearly Axminster. And dont we have a lot of fun ?
Good morning Martin great to hear you’ve got yourself a P5 controller again after all that time. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar
Thank you Oscar for the insight into your layout, fascinating to see. Like you, I do love the EM2, probably the finest model locomotive to have come out of the Margate factory, and aside of a few things, it was dimensionally very accurate. The design of the motor bogie was ultimately a let down, such a shame Tri-ang didn't follow the lines of the Hymek's motor bogie with proper end bearings to support the armature. Pick ups on the rear bogie like the later Cl37s would also have also given improved running.
Hi, Claire great to hear you found it interesting seeing how the layout got to this stage. I agree with about the motor bogie, proper end bearings should have been used. Thanks again. Oscar
I've been watching this and other recent vids of you saying its time for a serious change in layout design. I just had to get my thoughts in based on my experiences with this kind of semi solid base board system. As you and many other railway modellers and collecters will know reaching the middle of the boards for cleaning and maintenance can be very difficult due to the fact many of us arent born with arms long enough to reach the middle properly. So i told myself why not do the most logical thing and go around the outside of the room hugging the walls, either free standing or fixed to your walls leaving the space underneath unencumbred with baseboard uprights. ( I'll be fixing mine to the walls in part with angle brackets ) . With lots of room for your work benches and other storage, easy to get at. Easier to reach the back for cleaning etc and gives your trains a much longer run. 24-30 inches wide would perhaps be doable in practicle terms. I'll look forward to the new build whatever it my be.
I like the baseboard I have at 10 x 5‘ it’s probably the limit. I can reach with ease to the centre for cleaning and maintenance from the sides as I have access from all around. So it’s definitely not my intention just to make the board bigger as a whole. But I intend to use the space effectively to create longer runs as you suggest and create space for me to work and photograph/video the items as well as creating better storage. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment it’s hugely appreciated. Oscar
Hello Oscar, my big surprise today was finding out the age of the layout. It's not as old as I thought. Like most of our layouts your's continues to evolve. Having seen the room it is in I know there is plenty of room to expand, perhaps an "L" shaped layout is in store for us. You mentioned that you record about six weeks ahead of publishing your videos so perhaps the work is well under way? I have never had a Hornby Dublo layout but my local hobby shop got some in last year and they haven't sold it so I'm bargaining with them for it. Like others in the comments I was surprised at your success in backing that train over the elevated section and through the crossover, a fine testament to your servicing and maintenance system. Regards, David.
Good morning David the work is definitely started although not quite as advanced as I had hoped. Things have suddenly become busy here with the end of the current lockdown period and the gradual return to what many now call the new normal Time now feels very short.I think the Hornby Dublo would be a lot of fun. Thanks again for watching. Oscar
Oscar if I can give you a tip....next time you lay track use the micro track laying screws available. ...it means you can simply unscrew without risk of breaking sleepers like you would levering up pins. Thanks for the informative video, I think many of us have looked forward to this. Gary
Thanks Garry that’s a great idea I had looked into this before but had not come across them until I’d put this railway down. I may well use them in the future. As you say it’s always a worry taking track up this whole stuff perhaps more so as the plastic work is now quite brittle. I’ve use the bare minimum of track pins when putting down the railway. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment Oscar
VERY entertaining! Thank you. If you live anywhere near West London, I'm sure I have quite a few Triang Hornby bits and pieces* in the loft. If you're able to collect them, they're yours! Regards. Roger (not rolling stock , though)
"An odd sort of video" it may be, but it's also one of your most interesting. The layout is the sort I dreamed of as a kid if I'd had an enormous (unlimited?) amount of pocket money. Finescale modelling is what I'm really into these days, and I'm planning to go over to P4 eventually, but I really like what you have created at the opposite end of the hobby. I admire its honesty and total lack of pretension - oh, and it oozes nostalgia. I've built something a bit similar for my grandchildren (although a lot smaller so it can fold up against the wall); this runs rolling stock and locos ranging from 1961 to 2020 but on modern track (I had to turn some wheel flanges down on the older stuff) and with all locos converted to DCC. The points are mechanically controlled with wire in tube and the uncoupling ramps and level crossing gates are driven by servo motors. So, while my grandchildren have a Frankenstein's monster of bits from different eras, yours is the real thing. It would be lovely, if, many, many years from now, your layout could end up on public display as a working exhibit.
Good afternoon Roger, sounds like a wonderful layout you have created for your grandchildren they must have enormous fun with it. Thanks again for watching and taking the time to write these great and kind words. Oscar
I think the Tri-ang brand name was dropped in 1972 becoming Hornby Railways. Many of the models in the range lived long live before upgrades and replacements as technologies and customer expectations have evolved. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Oscar
Hi Oscar, I really enjoyed this fascinating video of how your layout started out and has grown into what it is now. May I ask what software you used to create those track plans? Lisa
Good afternoon Lisa it’s great to hear enjoyed the video. I didn’t use a track planning software to make those plans but instead I scanned The relevant symbols to scale! and arranged them using photoshop. Thanks for watching Oscar
Hello Oscar what size is the layout ..incredible .....I take it your not into dcc ......I've not got it ......that brown bridge reminds me ...your probably not old enough to remember , a scene from the film the French connection...with gene hackman ? Sorry I've been sat indoors too long .........my open wagons , I fill them with oo gauge gravel ? Do you think it will strain my loco
¡Hola buenos días Oscar! What a great start to my day! Since returning to my model railway hobby (two boxes unpacked in June 2019, unopened since packing away in 1984) I have been slowly building up a layout , in the garage, here in Spain. The layout is being built with, what I now know to be ‘series 6’ rail. However, I do have quite a lot of Tri-ang track, series 3 (I believe) and, some, which appears to be older? I also have some rolling stock, including an Electra, like yours, in green. I would very much value your guidance with regard to my future use of this track and stock and, to this end, wondered if I could PM you for some much needed assistance. In the meantime, I look forward to looking back on past videos you have posted and, the exciting new plans you have for your expansion plans for the layout. Un saludo. Gary
Good evening Gary, that must have been quit something opening boxes that were packed away in 1984 and sounds like you have some great items for your layout in the garage. Thanks for watching. Oscar
Good morning Ian, I think these older point Motors were really well made. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment it’s hugely appreciated. Oscar
Hi Oscar Today's video was great nice to see how you and the layout have got to this far. It's good to see that you have kept records up to now, aĺl very interesting. I have only just started to put mine together and will send you pictures very soon. Regards Paul osman
It's funny I am building my base boards as I'm watching lol I did wonder why you kept the steel track as opposed to nickel silver and yes the video answered a lot of questions but ..........what controller do you use and why? . Look forward to seeing the upgrade you might as well go all out and use the whole room lol . Brian
Good morning Brian that’s great to hear you’re at work with the baseboards. Definitely an exciting time once you’ve made a decision to make changes. I made these videos about six weeks or so ahead of time so at present I’m just beginning to take the catenary and buildings off the layout. So there’s a few videos to come before changes start to happen. I use H&M clippers, I was given one as a child to go with the old Triang P5 controller. So when I got back into it and the collecting started and I burnt out the little Hornby controller which came with the train set and looked out for one of these clippers and found there were plenty available at very reasonable prices in great condition so I tried one and they work really well for my needs at present, I have four of them and all the points and isolating rails are operated by the Tri-ang leave frame switches, I think they look great and it’s easy to see which direction the points are set plus a few microswitches have also crept in. I found the lever frames switch is quite an unreliable item and high maintenance so I may well switch to all microswitches on the next layout when it finally begins to take possibly with point direction indication built-in! Thanks for watching keep having fun building a railway. Oscar
Good morning Andrew, shouldn’t be a problem running most Hornby models from the 70s on the contemporary track. By this period they had released system 6 track in 1970 and the models / wheels had been adapted accordingly. Occasionally you will find the back to back measurement may need adjusting but the wheel flanges from models of this period should be fine. Oscar
Oscar Paisley great videos by the way. I recently rediscovered my modest hornby collection and have been inspired by your videos to source certain models via EBay. The B12 being a recent purchase.. My story is very similar to yours. First train set around 1973, the LMS set Princess Elizabeth. Hooked on trains ever since (although my interest also wained by the time I was around 15). The Hornby period between 1970 to 1980 has fond memories. Even though the more modern models from Hornby and Bachman are much more accurate I do feel the Hornby models from this period have a certain charm and are still great items to have.
Hi oscar another great video mate the electric locomotive in intercity livery is a hornby class86/2 electric locomotive I have that locomotive on my layout to I hope this information is of interest to you mate my I like the bo bo E3001/81 electric locomotives are my favourite locomotives of all of the tri-ang hornby locomotives oscar stay safe and well mate goodbye for now clive
My mate had R360 86219 Phoenix in BR Blue and it was a superb model- there’s one for sale on EBay at the mo Oscar and it would be great to see a review (hint hint!!!)
Good afternoon Clive thanks for the information and great to hear you enjoyed the video. I shall try and run the class86 in a future video perhaps with some of the later type catenary. Thanks again for watching. Oscar
Hi Oscar. Your layout is really inspiring. I also love the older trains and run a lot with the earlier couplings.. My layout however is done with "Standard track", running two lower circuits and one "up and over" with the inclined piers , sidewalls, gravity unloader and Girder bridge. Having dealt with the earlier Standard track, I can fully appreciate what a great layout that you have built and how well your trains run.. It's a great credit to you. I have also listened to your comments about the "hand decouplers". They are now available from our products with Yellow handles that have a loop on the end for hanging them up? If you want to look at the handmadeacc dot com address?
Good morning Robin thanks for the huge compliment. Your layout sounds terrific I really wish I could see it, do you have any video of it online? The items in the range when standard track was in use really are a beautiful set of things. Thanks for the info on the decouples I shall have a look at the website you suggest. Thanks for Watching and taking the time to comment it’s hugely appreciated. Oscar
@@oscarpaisley Hi Oscar, If you do look at the website, you will find my email address on the "contact" tab.. I can email some pictures to you? I do not have a good camera for posting movies I'm afraid? I tried some of my N scale layout and they are not very clear.. Search You tube at " N scale HMA" to find them? I'm not very computer savvy either for posting things either? I don't think that they like us to exchange our private contact on You Tube, but it is easy to find my email in the website? Your videos are the highlight on my computer time.. I really enjoy them. Cheers, Rob
HI watched you video you are like my brother he's the same as you i am allway fixing the points and checking the tri ang he get in of ebay there is a way to put the missing ends of the track back i made some tooling to make it easyer bob
Neat layout, but ... ... your turntable would get replaced by two turnouts or a double turnout. Turntables need at least five tracks accessing it, then a double slip or two turnouts cannot replace them. Usually turntables are made accessible from both directions.
You have fun and it shows. Does it get any better than that. Yes it's not prototypical or state of the art, but its fun. Tell you what, drop a 2020 Hornby model on the floor and it will be in he bin. HD was and still is bomb proof.
Whenever I see Super 4 track for sale on e-bay I think of Oscar! One thing I have noticed about your layout is that you are not too concerned with Scenic stuff. The odd looking buildings placed randomly about. Semaphore signals not even in the direction of trains. I think that the accessories were meant by Triang & Hornby to enhanced the models and complement them, so perhaps put a little thought into the position of them. Apart from that slight criticism it's been a good layout for making the videos and can't wait to see what you do with the new one.
Good morning Graham, thanks again for watching great to hear your love enjoyed the videos made around this layout, hopefully they will be plenty more as the new baseboards take shape. I know what you mean about the buildings and signals but I have to admit I really have just been standing them on the layout more for display than any other reason! Thanks again. Oscar
Hi Oscar, I don't think I would make the baseboard any larger! I think what I would do is replace the terminus station with a through station. Here are the ideas I thought about which I hope you will be able to develop! oogaugetrains.wordpress.com/
Good morning thanks for your thoughts.I’m fairly sure I’m going to have a through station and definitely a canopy of some sort. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment its hugely appreciated. Oscar
I imagine what you are saying as a narrative is rather interesting but I'm unsure whether I'm supposed to be listening to the mad guy on the 'background guitar' or you. What on earth made you think that some crappy guitar music might enhance what you are describing?
This has to be the purest form of railway modelling, great play value & everything to do with railways well done Oscar.
Good afternoon Geoff glad you enjoyed seeing my railway and how it was developed. Thanks for watching
Oscar
Many thanks for showing us
Will
Good morning William I’m really pleased to hear that you’re enjoying seeing my railway in action with its collection of older model locomotives and rolling stock.
Thanks again,
Will.
Flexibility is a perfect description of your layout. I'm amazed how the tracks enable you to achieve the movements you manage to show to us. And the fact that you've kept a record of the evolution is just a bonus. Very good luck on your future plans.
Hi Phillip, I think there will be a lot of fun with the railway items I have and the changing of the baseboards!
Thanks again for watching.
Oscar
Hi it’s great to hear you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching and taking the time to leave this terrific comment.
Oscar
Oscar
Hi Oscar,
Thank you for sharing your collection... A lot of us involved in the fine-scale end of the hobby wish that we could get running that is as reliable as that demonstrated in this video! Backing a train of that length through complicated pointwork shows just how good your track laying is.
Best of luck with the new layout.
Ken
Hi Ken, great to hear you are enjoying seeing some of my collection in action.
Thanks for watching.
Oscar
A fascinating video by all accounts Oscar , especially in the way that you have documented and explained the history of the layout and the volume of work that has been undertaken in its evolution . It is the vintage aspect of your layout which gives it the appeal , and its great to hear that more plans are afoot !
Good morning William, great to hear you enjoyed the video.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Oscar

You have got to be the luckiest man on RUclips to be able to have this much triang Hornby stuff
Good morning Gabriel, thanks for watching, its great fun playing with these things!
Take care.

Great layout.I like the early stuff. It looks right.Plain and simple. Not this over the top stuff we have to day
It’s magnificent Oscar.
Hi Nigel sounds like great fun. Thanks for watching really glad you enjoyed the video.
Oscar
Wow Oscar you've done a great job and I still look forward to each of your videos each week . I really enjoy them. It's always a walk down memory lane .😁
Good morning Mark, thank you vey much. it great to hear you are enjoying the videos.
Oscar

Hi Oscar,
Great video on the evolution of your layout and your interest in model railways.

Hi Oscar, after watching ‘The Spy Who Loved Me’ last night your video is perfect to continue that 70s vibe!!
I can’t imagine what could possibly have distracted you from Triang Hornby trains when you entered your teens but I hope it was worth it(!!)
Your layout would certainly have been my dream (along with Catherine Bach of course) and I’m looking forward to seeing it develop in the future....

Great video nice to know history of layout. I only started getting back into modal trains after 30 odd years. 7 years ago.
Hi, Roger great to hear, I hope your having lots of fun with you railway.
Glad you enjoyed the the video.
Thanks.

Inspirational! A magnificent layout.
Thanks David glad you enjoyed the video.

Oscar
great video Oscar a highlight of my sunday
Thanks again Robin glad you enjoyed the video.

Take care.

Great video Oscar your layout is great because it works really well and it’s simple to operate
Hi thanks David I’m glad you’ve enjoyed seeing it in action.

Another great video Oscar. If you have to change anything, you could add a few retail and residential buildings next to the station e.g. Triang Real Estate or Model-Land examples.
Hi Jim that’s a great idea I would love to get some of those items for the railway. Thank you for watching.
Oscar
I have seen your earlier layout in some of your older videos and wondered what the history was, now we know. Exciting times ahead, your coal loading stage perhaps? The Ivatt with those wagons was so smooth and not a single derailment, even when pushing. At least on the video anyway :-) Great fun as always. Cheers
Hi Pauline Glad you enjoyed the video and seeing how the layout developed.thanks again for watching.
Oscar
that's quite a layout. very impressive.
Hi, glad you enjoyed seeing the layout in action .

Oscar
Great time capsule of Hornby OO very well presented and displayed, even for me who isn't a lover of OO, I cannot say that I am not impressed.

Again Wonderful Video Oscar ,,, Hoping to see scenery added to your final layout,,, ( final never ends ) heheh enjoy :)

Good morning Jim great to hear you’re enjoying the video many thanks for watching.

Oscar
@@oscarpaisley It is strange how this situation seems to have shortened time, you and I are not the only ones noticing that. David.
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment
Oscar
@@oscarpaisley it's always a pleasure Oscar. Keep up the good work
VERY entertaining! Thank you. If you live anywhere near West London, I'm sure I have quite a few Triang Hornby bits and pieces* in the loft. If you're able to collect them, they're yours! Regards. Roger (not rolling stock , though)
Good morning Roger thanks for the very kind offer but sadly I’m never very near West London these days.
Thanks for watching.
Oscar
Oscar
Is Triang still alive ? I had one many many yrs ago with 3 rail track....
I think the Tri-ang brand name was dropped in 1972 becoming Hornby Railways. Many of the models in the range lived long live before upgrades and replacements as technologies and customer expectations have evolved.

@@oscarpaisley thanks, I didn't realize that...as a kid I also had O guage Hornby
Hi Oscar,
I really enjoyed this fascinating video of how your layout started out and has grown into what it is now. May I ask what software you used to create those track plans? Lisa
Good afternoon Lisa it’s great to hear enjoyed the video. I didn’t use a track planning software to make those plans but instead I scanned The relevant symbols to scale! and arranged them using photoshop.
Thanks for watching
Oscar
Lisa, smashing to hear a lady railway fan. My wife quietly laughs at me.😡
Hello Oscar what size is the layout ..incredible .....I take it your not into dcc ......I've not got it ......that brown bridge reminds me ...your probably not old enough to remember , a scene from the film the French connection...with gene hackman ? Sorry I've been sat indoors too long .........my open wagons , I fill them with oo gauge gravel ? Do you think it will strain my loco
Good morning John, this layout was 10x5ft and its DC, glad you enjoyed the video.
Oscar
nice video mate , kinda like the layout ideas , kinda thinking of using it for a layout idea
Good morning Thomas glad you enjoyed the video and seeing the layout.

Un saludo. Gary
Sorry Oscar, I forgot the important link: gulfes1960@gmail.com. if you would like to PM use that address
Good evening Gary, that must have been quit something opening boxes that were packed away in 1984 and sounds like you have some great items for your layout in the garage.
Thanks for watching.

How well made was the point motors. How of my pocket money I sent on track 🚂😊
Good morning Ian, I think these older point Motors were really well made.

Hi Oscar
Today's video was great nice to see how you and the layout have got to this far. It's good to see that you have kept records up to now, aĺl very interesting. I have only just started to put mine together and will send you pictures very soon.
Regards Paul osman
Good morning Paul great to hear you enjoyed the video. I hope you’re having great fun getting your railway together.
Thanks again for watching.
Oscar
Oscar
Can you still run 1970's hornby models on fairly modern nickel track?
Enjoyed that
Thanks for watching.

Oscar
Good afternoon Ned. Thanks for the information I shall have a look.

Cheers,
Rob
HI watched you video you are like my brother he's the same as you i am allway fixing the points and checking the tri ang he get in of ebay
there is a way to put the missing ends of the track back i made some tooling to make it easyer bob
Hi Bob thanks for watching glad you enjoyed the videos thank you for taking the time to comment it’s hugely appreciated.

Neat layout, but ...
... your turntable would get replaced by two turnouts or a double turnout. Turntables need at least five tracks accessing it, then a double slip or two turnouts cannot replace them. Usually turntables are made accessible from both directions.
Has inspired me to recreate a layout, for the joy of just playing with the trains and enjoying just escaping into a world created in Margate
Hi Andrew that sounds great thanks for watching and take the time to write this great comment it’s hugely appreciated.
Oscar
You have fun and it shows.
Does it get any better than that.
Yes it's not prototypical or state of the art, but its fun.
Tell you what, drop a 2020 Hornby model on the floor and it will be in he bin.
HD was and still is bomb proof.
Hi Stephen great to hear you are enjoying the videos I think you are right, it’s all about having fun.
Thanks again for watching.

Track, trains, controller, rolling stock, power pack, power track and now you get a train set or a model railway

Hello
Hi Oscar, I don't think I would make the baseboard any larger! I think what I would do is replace the terminus station with a through station. Here are the ideas I thought about which I hope you will be able to develop! oogaugetrains.wordpress.com/
Good morning thanks for your thoughts.I’m fairly sure I’m going to have a through station and definitely a canopy of some sort. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment its hugely appreciated.

Oscar u should space out your layout and focus on scenery
Good morning thanks for your thoughts and talking the time to watch.

I imagine what you are saying as a narrative is rather interesting but I'm unsure whether I'm supposed to be listening to the mad guy on the 'background guitar' or you.
What on earth made you think that some crappy guitar music might enhance what you are describing?
