Hi Sam. Thanks for the heads up on Clark Railworks; I found and bought a set of the Kato Shinkansen rail cars that I had been looking for for a while. The price was also cheaper than a certain auction site! Cheers.
I'm surprised they didn't make 3801. It's arguably the most recognizable steam engine here. Just a quick note 3806 is of the same class but the first few of the 38 class were streamlined. Hey Sam. Enjoyed your update but you might not be aware that Hornby started to ship out their Centenary Edition Rovex OO gauge train set (R1251M) celebrating 100 years of Hornby on Monday. I had prebooked this back in May 2020 so rather excited to receive a delivery on Tuesday. It was the Princess Elizabeth model and, in truth, it didn't fail to impress. All the best, Mike
Not gonna lie, very very exited too see you review the C38!! They very rarely ran them up where I live in NSW Australia because back in the day, they were too heavy for the track. So instead they used older express locomotives like the C35 (an Australian looking GWR Castle class) or a C36 (an Australian looking LMS Jubilee) Both engines were 4-6-0s. Hope you are all safe and happy Sam ☺️🇦🇺
Would love to see you review that NSWGR C38 Sam, they were arguably the greatest and most iconic Australian-made class of steam locomotive. Would be a fantastic one to review.
Sam, if you search the Hornby site for Lima NSW you should find the Lima Expert C38 and also some older Lima NSW coaches that would be of the types the C38 hauled. The ARM model looks identical to me. So I expect this is a very much upgraded version of the Lima circa 1976 model. The tender looks to be a completely new tooling to correct the old tender errors. Coaches look much the same as old Lima versions with no interiors but for 22 quid for a 12 wheel coach for Australia is the cheapest out there and accurate enough for most. Searching a bit I found pictures of the 3801 ARM ( Or is it Lima) streamlined model on the SMS March toyfair stand. SMS are Hornby, Scalextric and Oxford etc distributors for Australia and i seem to remember they also had Lima here back in the peak Lima period.
If you think the 38 is good-looking, and in real life they are, have a look at the S class Victorian Railways engine, streamlined to pull the 1937 Spirit of Progress, a true 100 mph express.
The Australian locomotive the plan was to do two versions a standard look version and a streamlined version .some stockiest here in Australia have standard version and they are still working on the streamlined version
Hi Sam enjoyed watching your video of your BR Terrier. My new TERRIER CARISBROOKE R3848X arrived yesterday. It's a beautiful model, perfect paint and no glue marks. Running is exerlent straight from the box, really good pulling power and no problems with slow running either. Super value for a DCC fitted model. I must give it a 5 * in all categories

Hey Sam, Australia was such a large continent with few people, each State Government was responsible for their own Railway Development. British Banks loaned funds with the stipulation that all Locomotives, Rolling Stock and Rails must be designed and made in UK... In 1908 alone, the New South Wales Government purchased 125 Steam Loco's from UK at a cost of GB 1,350 pounds per Loco, all on borrowed money. Great review, love all the Hornby goodies.
Victoria went to local manufacture and design much earlier than other states. Up until the 1890s depression the VR was the biggest railway in Australia as well as the first steam railway. Numerous Victorian builders pre 1890.
@@johnd8892 I guess each State Government financed their Loans in many different ways. Cheapest interest Rate is not always the best when it has strings attached, just like to-day.
Thanks for the news video Sam. One or two extras for you. Firstly Accurascale have announced they are wanting expressions of interest for a Class 73/9 in conjunction with KMS Railtech. Also their short video for the virtual Great Electric Train show contained an ‘Easter egg’ reveal of a HAA wagon in OO in the display cabinets behind the presenter. This will be going head to head with another highly detailed HAA wagon from Cavalex that was also announced very recently. In turn Hornby still have their version of the HAAs, but they are rather old now. Like you I’m very interested in the Rails/DCC Concepts decoders with something approximating towards stay alive. Might have to order one to see what they’re like - with my track laying skills that’s probably a good idea!!!!
Thanks so much Fred! Appreciate the heads up on this too! I'm not sure how brown-out protection approximates towards stay-alive, but I'd love to try one too! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Yeah sure, I hope they'll sell well in the UK, so that we can see more of the same. There's a real trend for 'model train enthusiasts' these days - we see that good models sell well regardless of their origin! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Have been watching your videos going back from 2017 and find them very informative Can see you know what your talking about and not shy of making mistakes You keep up the good work
Hi Sam. HE SAID IT THE C WORD. hahaha. good to see another episode of the model railway news. The Hush hush looks amazing. I would like you to review the Australian loco. That is our neighbouring country. Thanks Liam.
Sam's Model Railway News is preferable to Covid News which seems all that seems to be on these days. Thanks for taking the trouble to make these cheerful and happy videos!
For the Oxford Rail tanks : do it ! I've got two on my roster, and two other on their way from Sheffield, they are very nice, I really love them. I would have been interested in the Hattons Precision Baseboards but : 1) no metric dimensions 2) no sales outside the UK. Well, if it could change... For the J27, I'm not hurry, I can wait mine. There is a lot of new issues that are late today (94xx from Bachmann, all the Dapol GWR engines for instance) and that would certainly remain a trend in the next six monthes. Steampunk, well, if they succeed with their range, why not ? I'm not a customer for this, but if it pleases some amateurs, hope they'll enjoy it. And maybe make a better ranger if the customer base follows... Anyway, I'm fine with the delays, I have points to buy, and some wagons ! Hope it would be not too long (over 6 monthes for me !). Thanks for the show gentleman !
Really glad those are good, I may try them then! Ahh no sales outside the UK? I didn't see that! Thanks for sharing your thoughts! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I got excited when that c38 class locomotive was shown. That’s the green 4-6-2 if you don’t know. Looks good by itself, but I’d rather have the streamlined version of it.
I do like the look of the Hush Hush in grey, haven't got a grey loco yet.Yes do a review of the Oxford tank wagons if they are anything like the other wagons in their range then they should be good. You should try and get Hatton's to give you a room full of their base boards to review, you'd finally have an excuse to get up of the floor.😉. It's interesting that Rails are now doing a range of DCC decoders, I thought the Hatton's ones were also based on DCC Concept decoders.
@@SamsTrains Fun fact about DCC Concepts! It initially started off in Perth, Australia! Before they decided to move shop to the UK. I spent many hours(and $$$) in the Perth store. It was a sad day when they left Australia.
Great update video, ARM C3806, an iconic NSW Government Railways class of loco, 4 are preserved although one is in pieces, 3801 is the only one operational doing limited mainline heritage trips, 3806 sadly along with 25 others were scrapped in the mid to late 1960's. 5 of the class were streamlined 3801 - 3805, of which only 3801 survives. My tip buy from Hornby locally, if you did want one from Oz they are the around GBP155 (AUD279-299) on pre-order, +postage, ironically it would be better for me to buy in the UK! Hoping the Genesis LSWR coaches arrive by "C' :) Drew
Thanks Drew for this info - pity that so many were scrapped! Blimey, that's very reasonable, but I suppose it'd be better to buy from the UK with postage! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Can't wait for the J27s, and those consett iron ore wagons are certainly on my list (as with literally everything else KRM are doing in 00). I'm tempted by those biomass wagons, but a full rake would be kinda expensive... (a full rake for me would be about 15 of them, I think)
Those decoders look interesting if they're small enough for N gauge. Rarely room to fit a stay alive in an N gauge loco. Do you think it would be a good idea for Hornby to experiment with new track pieces instead of Steampunk Sam?
I'm in too for the six pins versions first, because I've got two coreless motor engines. And the stay-alive included can be a plus on some engines, like the Hattons Barclay. I've put them on my shopping list.
Hi Sam I’ve got some time examples of Southern railway and pregrouping brake vans that are either currently being produced or are easily to get hold of on eBay etc The two Hornby ones come in pregrouping liveries perfect for LBSC ‘brown ‘ locos and M7 , Adams Radial etc I hope I will see more Southern brake vans in your videos in the future as there have been extremely few considering the number of Southern locos There are kit built versions by Cambrian and smallbrook studios I’ll be keeping a look out on your videos 😊
Thanks so much for this Jon, I did just see your email! I've covered most of them actually - the queen Mary I did recently, and I did one in LSWR livery too! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Hi Sam Will your video and RUclips entries be available for years to come? Or is there a cutoff time when RUclips removes them? Their value is immense especially the servicing ones It’s like an extremely valuable library that will always be of use and should be open to all forever😊
Sam, you are a legend. That's all I have to say. Also that I'm excited for the Aussie loco. We don't get much representation in the model loco department.
Im really excited for the NSW Aussie loco, finally an Australian loco from hornby, hopefully we get it around the same time here in Aus as you’ll get it in the uk
Sam'sTrains, cheers mate, the pleasure is all mine, your videos are highly under rated, I think I was one of the Aussies who asked for you review aussie models ages ago, so hopefully it comes to fruition relatively soon aye mate
I happen to be a huge steampunk fan, and i agree with the poll results. actually if u r interested in seeing an example of what steampunk is really like, than I heartily recommend the Syberia video game series by the late designer Benoit Sokal. Steampunk is at the heart of the story, and elements of it are everywhere. it's a series of 4 video games (so far) that focus on Kate Walker, a 30 year old lawyer from a large corporate firm in New York City as she's thrown into a wonderous world of fantastical beasts and magical machines. sent to a small village in north west France to carry out the take over of a struggling toy company by her firm only to find out there's a surviving heir, Kate discovers the legacy of this company and the wonderful mechanical men known as "Automatons" they built, as well as other amazing machinery and vehicles such as trains, airships and boats. as Kate sets out to find this man named Hans Voralberg along side her Automaton friend and servant Oscar on board one of Voralberg's trains, she finds herself going on a fantastic adventure through northern France, Germany, eastern Europe and Russia. Ironically , after finding Hans and accomplishing her mission, Kate decides to leave the world she knew behind to help Hans accomplish his mission of finding the ancient land of Syberia with a "y" where wooly Mammoths still roam! the games continue after Hans leaves with Kate going on her own adventures including aiding the local nomadic tribe, the "Youkols" with their yearly migration, and chasing down her mysterious grandmother through central Europe, all the while discovering her true self and leaving behind the people she loved and the world she knew a little more each time. I've played the games many times, and i love them and would recommend them to everyone.
The W1's are really stunning. Pre-ordered the battleship grey one with the British Enterprise nameplates. Can't wait to see it in real life. Have they announced if the tender is a new tooling or just the normal a4 tender?
Sam, love your videos! I was wondering if you have ever considered reviewing manufacturers such as Roco, Brawa, or Trix. Thanks and keep up the good work!
YES, THE BUS IS BETTER THAN STEAMPUNK OFFERINGS. My digress is over. Awesome video, I wish I had funds to buy a HushHush. And you "need" that new "O Scale" diesel shunter. Yes, awesome video, Sam! John
haha pretty much!! I feel like I do need it, but I could buy two Dapol O gauge locos for that price, or maybe 4 OO ones! :O Thanks for watching, Sam :)
If Heljan release an OO gauge O2 and if it’s affordable, I’d happily buy it as it looks a bit like something the Yorkshire Engine Company would produce, a smaller ‘1382’ which a couple friends of mine own and if it is released, my quarry shed might need to be extended!
Hi Sam did you hear about Hornby building the Dublo Duchess range named Duchess of Atholl it has 5 pole motor, die cast body. But RRP £250 do you think this is a good buy? Thanks for the upload mate 🙂🙂
Yeah I did hear about it! They're all sold out anyway - but no I didn't think £250 was a particularly reasonable price for them! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The chair! it's always the chair. Recently heard ARM are considering a release of the Streamlined version in 2021. Might be worth waiting for that Sam because, the flagship of the class 3801 is the best!
Hi Sam, I know this is off topic but I am considering buying either some Hornby or Bachmann mk1's. I am stuck between which company to get them from. Do you have a preference? Also keep up the good videos
I don't have any of their latest ones I don't think, though I haven't heard of any major issues with either, so I'd say find a good price and see how you go! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
What about the announcement by KR Models for their model of DHP1 in OO? This was a short-lived diesel-hydraulic prototype built by Clayton's for Rolls-Royce, based on the Class 17 - the only difference was that it had a much larger cab, with three windscreens instead of two. It ended up (I think) as a shunter at Clayton's. There is also the announcement that Heljan's new Class 47 tooling for OO is to be offered by Model Rail magazine as a Class 48 (essentially, a standard Class 47 with engines by Clayton's as prototypes for a batch of locos for export to Cuba). There were six of these, and they were eventually re-engined with standard Sulzer S12LDA28Cs that the rest of the Class 47s had. Model Rail already has some pedigree with specially-commissioned toolings, beginning with the GER J70 tram engines from Dapol; and the "USA" Tanks from Bachmann; with other forthcoming models comprising of the GWR 16XX Pannier Tanks from Heljan; the BR Class 11 shunter from Heljan; the Ruston PWM shunter from Heljan (in association with Kernow Model Rail Centre); and the Vale of Rheidol Railway 2-6-2Ts in OO9 from Heljan.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the body work of the Hush Hush is going to be made of plastic the princess was what made me think so. Fun fact apparently the Australian locomotive is actually Australia’s equivalent to the Flying Scotsman if you didn’t know then now you do. You asking if you should review the Oxford tankers is a joke it’s Oxford Rail everyone loves Oxford Rail of course you should review those tankers and it wouldn’t hurt to get modern tankers for your railway. Thanks for the new updates.
Yeah, almost certainly plastic bodies, but the chassis looks chunky enough! haha yeah - probably will pick up some tankers! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
On that hi-railer bus, see if you can track down the Michelin Railbus in HO. I know Marklin made one, and they did a 2-rail DC version. It's a bit of an oddity and I'm sure you'd like it.
Excellent video Sam, I am thinking of buying a Hush Hush, do you know when they will be available to buy? I do like the idea of the new decoders with "Brown out", if you get one can you do a video of it, if it works? Simon
Thanks Simon! They're expected early 2021 as far as I know, but see if you can get a pre-order in somewhere - I know lots of places have sold their allocations already!! The decoders will be ones to try, definitely! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I feel for you good folk in England, here in New Zealand it's as usual and it seems odd when other countries are dealing with covid talk about lockdowns, distancing, etc. Our government did what it had to do and look at us now. Pity your government weren't as quick. Still power to you Sam I enjoy your videos as do, I'm sure, others. Stay safe.....oh and BOO! 🎃 Happy Halloween
I am Australia and I am so happy that Hornby are selling Australia model trains plz review the 38 class that you said I will be so happy. Keep up the good work mate 😁
I’m really looking for to seeing you review the C38. There is meant to be a release of the streamlined version next year. It’s been 20yrs or more since C38 class were produced at an affordable price range. Small scale modellers have made limited releases but sometimes costing over $1k AUD. 3801 just recently returned to the rails after a long time being out of action. Would love to see you do a piece on this.
Me too Hugh - I'm very interested in those!! Great to hear that some manufacturers are being reasonable with their pricing over there - hopefully others will be forced to follow suit if they continue, thus opening up the hobby to everyone!! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains NSWGR has some really beautiful locos. Fortunately there are several operationally preserved examples. I recommend looking up the NSW Railway Museum. I’ve only recently got back into model railways and am looking forward to building a NSWGR collection. Loving your channel.
great video but i thought of somthing what if you did a old vs new comparison video example: your ddc tri-ang flying scotsman vs your ddc hornby flying scotsman in a simular way you did the thomas vs real life video's it would be somthing that (as far as i know) never been done before have a good evening: ian
Honestly I’m so glad that Hornby are starting distributing Australian locos because that loco would cost around 800 aud unless you buy a Lima branded version (not very good quality). I am a bit disappointed that they are not releasing the streamlined version that is the fastest steam locomotive in Australia that broke a few records and triple headed with the non streamlined version and the flying Scotsman when it came to Australia. Prices for Australian models are honestly ridiculous here in Australia!
I'm glad too - great to know they're broadening their horizons too! I've heard the streamlined one may be in the works too - so keep those fingers crossed! :D Thanks for watching, Sam :)
The Australian NSWGR class 38 is a model from the former Lima range, they did some models of American/Australian/South African subjects or at least had announced them in the late 1980s. The Class 38 was featured in the 1989 catalog, which I still kept to this day. So ARM is reissuing the model, probably with a new mechanism and some improved detailing. The Lima base is a good one as Lima models designed in that period were quite accurate in their overall dimensions and appearance, they just hadn't the best mechanisms then and detailing was a bit mediocre compared to modern models, but nothing a modeller couldn't improve. I'm curious how the new model is going to do in a review.
Hey Tom - I'm pretty sure it isn't the old Lima one - I've been looking at photos and the new version looks nothing like it! I'm pretty sure it's newly tooled by ARM, but Hornby have just confused things by putting it into their 'Lima Expert' range - definitely willing to be proved wrong though! Thanks for watching, Sam :)
So Hornby is finally retooling the Class 91s? Are they redoing the Mark 4s also? The Intercity 225 in it’s original Intercity Swallow livery is one of my favourite British trains! And it’s nice to see a new model of the APT-P coming out too, even though it had such an unfortunately short service life.
@@SamsTrains They probably won’t get up to the standards I expect from Japanese stock, but it would be great if the Mark 4s got capability for interior lights and directional lights on the DVT.... And scale ends with close coupling! Always enjoy your videos, Sam!
@@SamsTrains If I ever changed from modeling Japan to the UK, I would choose to model the ECML in the early 90s. Sectorisation, between York & Edinburgh.... 😊 Ewan
I still think they should produce the sterling single Sam 😂😂😂😂 I’ve allways wanted one the steam punk range looks interesting might have to get one and the hush hush I’m really exited for lol 😂 thx Ben :)
I wouldn't hold your hopes up the owners of the Thomas brand, mattel, have re designed the show and its characters and judging by Thomas's new design it's not good.
Sam at the end I generally thought you where going to say c**p lol I really can't wait to get my hands on one of those LNER Gray W1 Hush Hush's from Hornby they really look very unique and amazing :)
I've always noticed that Australian locomotives looks like American Boilers on British frames.
Most of the Australian locomotives mainly for the VR and NSWGR are built by Beyer Peakock in England

Many thanks for the info on this - can't wait to learn more about this! :D

Excellent model railway news. I’m off now to Clark’s railworks website.
Great!! Hope you get on well!! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Huh? Hey what's our Australian model train a 38 Class doing in the UK?
Selling to people who appreciate good locos and thus keeping production numbers up so helping keep prices down. So all good news.
Yeah sure, I hope they'll sell well in the UK, so that we can see more of the same. There's a real trend for 'model train enthusiasts' these days - we see that good models sell well regardless of their origin!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Have been watching your videos going back from 2017 and find them very informative

Thanks so much Fred, appreciate it! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
I got excited when that c38 class locomotive was shown. That’s the green 4-6-2 if you don’t know. Looks good by itself, but I’d rather have the streamlined version of it.
The strong rumour is a streamliner will follow if the first release is successful.
Me too!! I think it looks pretty good too - fingers crossed for the streamliner! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Yes the Oxford wagons are great. The M4 Sherman from the Warwell is now on my WW2 layout.-Fas Mann
Das Mann
Yeah me too, very tempting isn't it?! Yeah it is interesting - if so, then it's puzzling about the difference in price!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)

The news is definitely my favourite types of videos of yours Sam😀
Thanks so much!! Really glad you like them! :D
Can't wait for the J27s, and those consett iron ore wagons are certainly on my list (as with literally everything else KRM are doing in 00). I'm tempted by those biomass wagons, but a full rake would be kinda expensive... (a full rake for me would be about 15 of them, I think)
Me neither!! And glad about that - hopefully KR models prove themselves as a great manufacturer! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Looks good sam - I'd love for you to finally paint one of those 0-4-0 bodies you got a while back. I've always wanted to see you customize one!
haha yeah, maybe I will do that one day! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@OlivierGabin looking at the dimensions they seem a bit long.

Hi Sam I’ve got some time examples of Southern railway and pregrouping brake vans

The two Hornby ones come in pregrouping liveries perfect for LBSC ‘brown ‘ locos and M7 , Adams Radial etc
I hope I will see more Southern brake vans in your videos in the future as there have been extremely few considering the number of Southern locos
There are kit built versions by Cambrian and smallbrook studios

Sam, fancy getting a model of the Aussies' very own 3801? Just thought I'd ask since the Australian locomotive in the video looked like it.
I'd love to yeah, they look awesome! :D
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
Yes they are! Not seen anything on Mk4s, but that would make sense!
Thanks for watching, Sam :)
@@SamsTrains They probably won’t get up to the standards I expect from Japanese stock, but it would be great if the Mark 4s got capability for interior lights and directional lights on the DVT.... And scale ends with close coupling!
