It slips away from you fast when you hit 50.I enjoy you and your wife's videos.
Da U.P. is definitely gorgeous. Nice video. Looked like a beautiful isolated spot. I'm going to have to side with you. I am also more of a coffee guy hahaha!
Bushradical He's definitely a spoiled pampered pooch. I don't remember the exact name of where we got him but they did not breed very often. It was an amish farm in lower Michigan.
Thanks Dave for sharing. That brings back lots of memories up in the U P. My wife was from Mercer Wisconsin which is like 30 miles from Ironwood Michigan. When we’d go and visit her parents we would make countless trips up to Lake Superior and Gogiebic forest up there. Simply beautiful country in the Northwoods. Can’t recall how many pasties I’ve had up in ironwood. Thanks again for sharing and ATB Mike
Thanks Mike. Its good to hear from other people with History up there.....the U.P. is a place a lot of people have heard of but never get to........well, you kind of have to be going there to ever "get" there.
Discovered your channel this past year during lockdown. I haven’t seen them all yet, but this is a great one. Thank you, from Oakland County, MI. P.S. I might see you around up there soon. My brother-in-law just bought property on Mackinaw Island and plans to start building in 2021. Might give me an excuse to get up there more often. The wife and I are spending our anniversary at the Wild Blueberry Festival in Paradise this Summer.
Can’t wait to get back to da U.P. Being stuck down here in the lower part of Michigan wears on me! I enjoy all you videos and have learned a lot along the way! I can’t wait to purchase a piece of land in the U.P. and get started on my cabin! Thanks for sharing your knowledge Dave and look forward to more videos.
Say "Ya" to the UP, Eh! Love it up there, have spent a lot of time on the shores of Superior and crawled over most of the Hiawatha National Forest. This video brings back a lot of memories for me. Thanks!
Back in the seventies, in NL Canada, I had a cabin on a lake in an area called Camp 6. It was called Camp 6 from the early days of logging in the province in the late 19th to mid 20th Century. Every logging camp had a number.
As kids we always went on family vacation to Wakefield area. In a week or so the three brothers are headed back up to camp and fish for a couple of weeks in tents.
Ah. . .been watching a few Michigan "camping" videos tonite. Finally a video that doesn't involve swimming pools, volleyball courts, playgrounds, 35' fifth wheels and pay showers. . . The U.P. looks more like how we like it here in Idaho.
Black cotton t-shirt? Yeah, well, so last Saturday morning I decided to get in my kayak wearing a cotton t-shirt (under a synthetic fishing shirt) and cotton duck pants. I tried to step into the kayak like it was a canoe (which I'm much more experienced with). I learned not to do that. The kayak rolled, particularly swamped, and I took a chilly morning plunge. I tried to just paddle and fish wet until I got too cold and decided to go back to camp to change.
My dad was born and raised in Michigan. I know he spent lots of time in the UP as a young man. He'll be 80 in a few weeks and lives in Florida now where I grew up before settling in NC myself 28 years ago. i love the "Old Country" I call it. Storybook woods lol. Great time. Thanks for posting! -Mike
The best thing about this time of year is that there are no bugs! Great camera work Dave! I felt like I was sitting around the camp fire with you! Thankyou for sharing, I really enjoyed watching!
Ya, the U.P. is pretty special. I'm kinda bias to the Keewanaw thou. That were our now 5th generation cabin is at. Looks like a great spot there. I hope there is more to this adventure
I would guess that you were near Grand Marais in the UP. I went to Newberry (Oswald's Bear Ranch) last summer for the first time and then drove the sand road north by Lake Superior to Grand Marais when I left the Bear Ranch. It was so nice and quiet, no traffic at all. The scenic beauty was awesome.
Not even sure it showed up on the GPS or google maps. Asked the elderly man at the ticket booth of the Bear Ranch and he told me I could drive to Grand Marais that way so I did.
Planning on riding my motorcycle to the UP and camping. Are all dirt roads in the national forest sand, or packed dirt? Wondering because I’m no expert when it comes to riding on loose sand.
Back in the day (88-92) my best friend and I would load up my Jeep and head out with a Sportsmen’s atlas, find a lake with no roads drive back and walk in ....sometimes the fishing was awesome sometimes not and the bugs are us alive!! But man did we have fun, those were some good times.....
That's a great lake. Camped on that lake many times. Did you camp in between long lake and camp 8? Camp eight gets 74ft deep and has some nice rainbow trout in it. I've hiked and Portaged in to it before with canoe. There is a little pond called bullhead lake next to it. Nice brook trout fishing. Just about every lake and pond will have smallmouth and crappie in it too. To really enjoy it you have to go in for a week or more just fishing and exploring the lakes around it. Beautiful and peaceful back at those lakes. The first lake you parked at has become a little wilder getting well known. It was better and more peaceful 20 years ago. Nice video. Thanks for the trip down memory lane.
nice black car :D . also beautiful fog on the lake Hey Dave, question, how does it work to camp in a lake "in nowhere"? I mean, kinda legally. Here in NJ I probably cant park anywhere, and all lakes are parks. But when I went to Alaska I felt like I would always be alone. How can I know if I can park and stay in a place? Sorry, just came back to US and kinda new to this.
Echo? Echo? Echo? Echo? Echo? What echo? What echo? What echo? What echo? Camping all by your lonesome? What gives Whip? Camping all by your lonesome? What gives Whip? Camping all by your lonesome? What gives Whip? Camping all by your lonesome? What gives Whip? No friends? No friends? No friends? No friends? I'm so immature! Beautiful scenery! Trout lake? Jack
I would never have asked! I have secret spots also, some look pretty much exactly as that spot! Beautiful! Are their Trout in that lake? Looks like one of our typical Southern Ontario remote lakes, some have old logging roads going in, some don't and you have to pack in. The ministry has all the lakes in any region, what type of fish are in them, if they're stocked, and if they are what kind of fish, how many and when. Great stuff Dave! Jack
When did you film this Dave?...sure much better weather than I have up here today, heavy wet snow for about 8 hours and stiff wind! Yes, that is a pretty place for sure, the kind of setting I like to do dusk canoe trip and listen to the silence as I stop paddling and drift. What a great diversity of trees. Take care, Chris
Howdy David, Good to see you getting out there and away amigo. Its rare these days to get someplace where the silence is deafening...what a great location...be well...woods
I clicked your video 'cause I just bought a piece of land connected to the Chequamegan National Forest that I plan on putting a cabin on. Didn't know you were from Michigan. Our family is from Escanaba. Too flat for me, I'll stay in Wisconsin :) Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks Common Ground. Both Brooke and I grew up in Michigan and have spent the last 5 winters here. I have a LOT of cabin building videos on this channel BTW. check em' out if you get the chance.
That's exactly what I do as soon as I get home bro! Work boots come off and on slip the comfy slippers! WHAT?? No cooking show like Girl in the Woods?? lol.
Hey friend!😀 good to see a new video. Really cool going way out like that👍🏻 I don't know if I could be that secluded by myself. I have anxiety disorder. Did you bring any form of music?
It looks wonderful, not exactly sure what I expected, but when you said you had some catching up with us I thought you were going to make some kind of announcement or bring us up on everything. Sorry to be a demanding clamoring public. I guess when you do this so well people start thinking its easy or something. All that said as usual I enjoyed this video. Thanks for a good job, well done.
Awesome footage. This isn’t an actual camp ground right? I am planning a trip up there and want to camp somewhere way off the grid. Wasn’t sure tho if I can just park anywhere and walk in

I might have even been to this same lake. I didn't even carry a map though as it would be difficult to get too lost. If you are on the east side, just go west and you will hit Hwy 41. Wow- we bought property about 20 miles south of Marquette on Lake Michigamme. Havent gone in there much cause of winter weather.
I love the u.p. been there on many solo adventures
I'm curious about why you didn't clear the needles and leaves from the fire ring. Isn't that dangerous for forest fire?
Beautiful spot to camp in the UP, Dave. Loved hearing the echo and seeing the calm water, "ghost breath" and beautiful sunset.
Thanks Susan. It was a fantastic sunset!!
The U.P. is a special place. But I am a little partial to the U.P. because I live in the Yoop! Lol. Todd from da U.P.

she's fine. Shoot her a message.
If you’re just hiking in and camping how is this legal? Whenever I look where it’s legal to camp you cannot disturb dead or downed tree.
This is bush country. I'll camp wherever I want. Seriously....who owns this country? The people or the 10,000 beaurocracies.
