My 70s crush. I now work as a funeral driver/bearer often at Hendon Crem. I visit her grave each time to make sure it's clean and tidy. Never had the chance to meet her so it's my way of saying thank you for the music.
You are a star Mike. I wonder who else of her circle visits.

Beautiful story about youre young crush xxxxxxxx
Does anyone ever come to lay Flowers, please,Mike?
OMG. Her passing went under the radar. RIP beautiful, talented lady.
Youre most welcome sir xxxxx
Lynsey's death did not go under the radar. Her sad death was reported on all the news channels and was front-page news. I was a fan of this lovely, talented lady from when she first appeared on TV singing Sugar Me, which I bought. She was an extremely talented lady who designed album covers before her singing career took off. She was runner-up in the Eurovision song contest, and one of the songs she wrote became a hit for the Fortunes, " Storm in a Teacup" Lynsey was a vegetarian and did a lot in raising awareness of animal rights. She also released a video for teaching women how to defend themselves and keep safe. Even in death, Lynsey showed kindness to others as she was an organ donor, and by donating her organs she gave others the opportunity to live a better life. Lynsey was so much more than a very pretty face, wouldn't you agree.

Great post!
I really hate when people put up "she was underrated" and all that other nonsense.
she was very successful. the first female to win an Ivor Novello award, I believe.
she helped artists to get their PRS.
her death was widely reported at the time.
rip.

I never knew she had died. Such a sad story of her life. God rest her soul. Beautiful voice.
I was shocked to come cross this video as I had no idea she had died.
She died in 2014
Same here I didn’t know
Beautiful linsey, thank you so much for showing us the famous people we lost and loved xx
@@cockers6682 It went mostly unnoticed because her days of fame were behind her...'storm in a tea cup' was covered by English pop band The Fortunes...where do our thoughts go when we die? we'll all find out
I had the pleasure of doing a repair at Lynsey's house in the late 80s.
Famous people aren't always nice to be honest, but Lynsey was charming, friendly and interesting.
Rest in peace lovely lady.
What? I lovely story Simon. Thank you for sharing. Alan
Met her ten years ago, interviewed her and sat in her kitchen with her, eating sandwiches that she'd made for us. Lovely woman. Genuinely talented and a true pioneer. And, in case you are wondering, she kept her 'Rear of the Year' award in her downstairs loo. We were all devastated when she died so suddenly, 12 months later. R.I.P. Lynsey.
How interesting Blast from the Past. I'd love to have heard about your interview. I didn't actually notice that she'd won layer of the year, but now I see why she's got the photograph with her bottom sticking out. I wonder what age she was when she wasn't it. She was a beauty. It's lovely to hear your first-hand recollection. All the best, Alan
I realise now that I interviewed her, at home in Hampstead, in 2013... so 9 years ago! Time flies. Still got all the footage here and some of it is available on her facebook group.
@@blastfromthepast8344 I take a look thank you for the info
She was tiny saw her on her roller skates on Hampstead Heath with James Coburn. She lived in a gothic house in Highgate . Sad that she is no longer with us!
how wondeful
Oh jeez, I didn't realise she was gone, how very sad. May she be Resting in Peace ❤
She looked so good you don't expect it .
.
God bless her, I didn't realise she was dead. Very gorgeous, for sure. She was a vegetarian and she came to a demonstration, I think it was the Smithfield Show in London, she walked past us and smiled and stood with the demonstrators. Those eyes of hers and the beauty mark above her lip 😘
Hi Baz I bet she was a great asset for the campaign for vegetarianism now. Lovely that you got to see her. She was a beaut. All the best, Alan
Neither did I …

Beautiful lady with a beautiful voice
I remember her being on Top of the Pops when i was a little girl and thinking how pretty and glamorous she was. Such a shame, she's gone far too soon. May she rest I peace.🙏
Lovely comment Loise thank you Alan
My first crush as a young boy.A very beautiful soul, and charming person.I don't think she ever got the proper recognition her talent deserved.
Spent the day with her 40 year's ago, she was really beautiful, nice and very calm, I was shocked when she died, rip
She lived at Holly Lodge in Hampstead. Loved animals. She put her house on market for sale years ago and my friend pretended to be a potential buyer to see her house! She had a beautiful fire place and had a bird become trapped in the back so she had a little door built into the fire place so if birds got trapped she could open the door to rescue them! I saw her a few times around Hampstead as I lived nearby. I was saddened at her death. She was a good soul and fellow vegetarian. She was often mentioned in the Ham & High local rag. She never did move from Holly Lodge.
What an unusual story and it showed out caring. She was to go to the effort of putting the trap door for the birds if it ever happened again. Best Alan
Went to same school as Lynsey (Reuben) born and brought up and lived in Hampstead till 2001 when I retired to Glastonbury
She used to park her car, a Jensen interceptor, on Chester Road. Her private plate was LDP II.
No, she lived in Holly Village, not Holly Lodge. She was my neighbour 💕
@@malusantos1551 that's right .Holly Village, off Swains Lane
Oh my goodness! That song 'Won't Somebody Dance With Me?' is the song of my childhood. In those days, stars came in and sang and plugged their new songs, but they also sang that song again on other shows, it became 'their' song and was sang very frequently, so I remember this mournful and very beautiful song sung by the gorgeous Lyndsey, over and over again. The mere sound of it conjures up felt tips, Top of the Pops, dreadful fashions, annuals and lots of lovely Christmases! Why those came to me, I don't know, but her song was a hit for such a long time and we girls used to sing it together on the sports field in wispy voices that we thought were just like Lynsey's! What innocent times they were and what a lovely childhood I had. Thank you, the beautiful, Cinderella-like ( in more ways than one ) talented and fabulous Lynsey de Paul.
She Co-wrote “Storm In A Teacup” which is a monumental pop-song - an absolute sheer masterclass in how to write a the perfect pop song! Class
@Craig Williams. I didn't know she released it herself. It wasn't a hit for her but it was for 'the fortunes'.
She was small and petite, hard to picture her with an old boyfriend James Coburn as he was so tall.. Thank you so much for the reminder as I'd honestly forgotten about her, she was pretty.I honestly didn't know she had passed 😢.
Hello Margaret, that's what a lot of people are saying. I don't even remember it. I only found out because of the films I'm doing. I can also say that when I met a briefly I found her the most attractive woman I'd ever seen. She was lovely all round. All the best, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep Cheers Alan keep them coming.
I remember her saying Coburn was mean and she always paid her own way.
Her beauty alone was gorgus she was a brilliant singer I loved her music but I did not know she had died so young really RIP and God Bless Lynsey ❤️
Didn't know she had passed. Talented lady. RIP.
Lynsey was a very kind person. Her mum and my great aunt were first cousins and she also lived on the same road as us. We used to go to her house alot and she would teach us all art. She was really lovely. She did leave the family home quite young, I didnt know about her dad, but she left and moved to Hampstead and then dated Jack Wild for a while, before moving to the US. I was really sad that she died so young.. and alone.
Hello Natalie, what a wonderful, interesting comment. It's so nice when people actually know the subject in person. She's like the cliche beautiful inside and out. I don't think it. I knew she dated Jack. Anyway, thank you for the great comment. Alan

Like many, I was unaware of her passing. Fond memories of that Lady and her music. Bless you, Lady Lindsey.
Poor Lynsey. I remember her when she was in the charts and I liked her songs.
She was my age when she died. It makes one think how fragile life is.

My late friend, singer, songwriter, musician, Alan Merrill, knew her quite well, and she appeared as a guest on his "Arrows" Granada TV show in 1976. He said she was really lovely, kind and gentle, and friendly. I remember how sad he was when he heard of her shockingly sudden and unexpected death
What a really well done tribute.
I am 60 so am lucky to have lived through that era, it was magic, Lynsey De Paul was a part of that magic.
Thank you.
Hi Joe so many people are remembering her Thank you Alan

My first teenage 'crush,' was Lynsey de Paul. She was great.
Lynsey was such a beautiful and talented lady and i grew up with her music, Sugar Me is a firm favourite of mine, it's a timeless song, all who remember her will never forget her, she was a true star!
I did not realise that this beautiful lady had passed away I was not a fan of her music but I was a fan of her stunning looks....God love her ❤️
Wow. That came as a surprise although, after a few minutes, I seemed to have a vague recollection about reading of Lynsey's death. I genuinely wasn't aware of the cause of her death and found that quite shocking.
Thanks for sharing her story and, obviously, her lovely yet modest grave.
hello Marion, if I wasn't doing these films I don't think I would have known about Lindsey's death. It wasn't very well publicised I don't think but it was a lovely understated grave. I agree she was a lovely woman. Thank you for your comments. Alan
How long had she been spilt with James coburn ?

Hello Simon, I agree with what you said. She was lovely and thank you for the comments about the video. It's the chap from the grave :-) Take care
Lindsey de Paul studied Fashion and Textiles at Horsey College of Art. She was not trained as a commercial Artist. She was, without doubt the most glamorous and well dressed student in the college canteen. I was there at the same time
Would have liked to have gone to Hornsey College of Art, but before my time. Thanks for info.
Thanks for putting the record straight that she studied fashion and textiles as you were at the same college at that time. 😘
@@phoenixrising5088 Lynsey stated in an interview that she studied art there
So many talented songwriters and musicians went to Art School - just shows how a nurturing in creativity can later be used in many areas.
Thank you for this video Alan, our company based in Mill Hill moved Lynsey from her flat in near Crouch End I believe in the 70’s, a while back now, and most of my family including my mum are laid to rest in Hendon, I am up there next month on my mums birthday, so will pay my my respects to Lynsey afterwards..,.thanks again

My heart definitely skipped a beat when she used to appear on television back in the 70s. I have a memory of her appearing on Quick On The Draw. This was a show where cartoonists could show off their talent and Lyndsey was very talented:)

I remember Lynsey on top of the pops as that was my era in the 70s. I share her passion of love for Animals. Thank you for the information you give, its so appreciated.
Hi Ju JU she really did love animals. Don't you find that attractive in people. I always say if they love cats and dogs there's nothing wrong with them. All the best, Alan
So very true Alan.... I am so passionate for the welfare and the safety of Animals. I just wish I could reach everyone to help them. There is pure beauty in someone who loves Animals you are spot on. I daily feed stray cats and got many spayed vaccinated & neutered because I saw kittens having kittens so heartbreaking through stupid humans. Aww, I used to live 50 yds from her in Swain's Lane, Lower Highgate - she was very friendly and chatty - the locals loved her...

You are right she was beautiful, and had a lovely voice.
Such a talented lady taken away so young.Thank you Alan for your very interesting coverage of Lindsay's life.
As a youngster in his late teens I used to love her records and think this gentle lady was a gorgeous girl. All those groups and songs come back to mind, I did not know she wrote them all. Bless her heart.
A lovely story I grew up listen to music from thar time we all agreed she a butiful lady
I hadn't realised how many songs I'm fond of were written by her. She's a blue jeaned baby, she's the queen of 'em all, she's the only one that makes me want to rock and roll, and it'll be alright, DANCING ON A SATURDAY NIGHT. God bless!!!
I remember at the time of Lynsey’s passing it was widely reported in the press. She was hugely talented and appeared to have an amazing life. Lynsey said in an interview for Saga magazine she believed her father could have been schizophrenic . This could have explained his sometimes violent and erratic behaviour. Apparently never forgave her late mother who stood by and let the abuse happen. Her music lives on,recently a young guy in my local vinyl store was playing one of her albums, saying he recently discovered her on RUclips and was smitten.
Hello Bernard, I love it! When people are interested information, I didn't know about this interview and that would make sense regarding their father, but the mother must have been weak to allow it to continue. Well done. Really found your comments interesting. All the best, Alan
@@MotorHomeBeepBeep maybe the mother got treated far worse and terrified of her husband.
@@antonyjones4259 I don't think she had any support
Lyndsey looked after her mother in later life so she must have forgiven her.
I kind of have to wonder weather her brain hemorrhage was a result of the injury and head trauma given by her father when she was younger. So sad.
Lynsey De Paul was a very beautiful talented lady, when I was a teenager I loved listening to her songs.
I am pleased she had lots of admirers during her career and lots of men to show her affection to balance out her short life.
I would not be surprised if being knocked around the head as a young teen helped towards her early death. It’s not unheard of.
Rest in peace. 🕊 🕊 🕊
I worked with LyDePa (pronounced Ler Der Per) and can say hand on heart she was a beautiful woman, inside and out. This may or may not be known by most, but she was a damn good artist/cartoonist and her flat had many of her works on the walls. As has been said, sitting with her and having coffee and chocolate biscuits is a memory most dear to me. Sleep well, and thank you.
My career back in the day had a strong "Arden" association. She was delightful. She intro'd me to Barry Green "Blue" who put in a bid to buy my business. RIP

I was on holiday at the Beau Vallon Bay hotel, in the Seychelles Islands in 1973. Linsey was also there. We learned to scuba dive in the pool together, before going out to the reef.
