It wasn't working, but she would b!tch constantly about him being gone all the time trying to get help. Rough brakeup, and then she wrote that as well as others about him. Made her career of trashing him. While he never once did that to her. That smirk at the end of call me when you're sober, was a snob look directed 100% to Shaun.

But she is very toxic, and was mad in the end it didn't turn out how she wanted. She is a narcissist, and revenge was writing songs about him, and the situation. She controlled and played him for years and when he walked away, she had a fit. It was also more then 1 song, its just that most people know that as her hit, and don't know the background behind it. It was her way of getting the last word, knowing he wouldn't stoop to her level and write songs about her. He tried bettering himself, and she wouldn't let him unless it was her way. When he finally had enough, she wrote trashy songs about him.
