      Very cool! I'm long overdue for a return trip to Da Nang. This video was my 2nd time, as I had gone once before in 2015. ^^
      Hope you have fun in January!!!

    I have never even thought that some of the places you have shown even exist in Vietnam. It's not what we are used to when we think of Vietnam. I have watched a few videos on another channel called The Luxury Travel Expert, and I can say without a doubt that I will visit Vietnam in the near future.

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, I had no idea those places existed either! My GF does all her research around Facebook in Vietnamese groups, and that's how she discovered the different places and activities we could do. She even hooked it up with discounts on some tours by booking through those groups instead of the place directly.
      This country is definitely a bucket-list worthy place to experience! ^^

      It was very fun, I've never done small rafting with 2 people only and no oars.
      I've done big rafting in Korea, with 8 people in one boat and everyone has an oar. That's a lot of fun, too. ^^

    I've been following various vloggers and love Da Nang. My wife is from Nha Trang and even she was so impressed by Da Nang when we took our 2 kids and father in law there back in 2011. Da Nang has really grown, in a good way, and their beaches are awesome. I like the fact that Da Nang area offers traditional Vietnamese social/cultural sites like Hoi An and Hue while also offer modern recreation facilities like Ba Na Hill, the big water park, golf courses, etc. Hope you enjoyed Da Nang Cory. Don't you love Vietnam's night scene and the joy on people's face? BTW, your food footage is killing me, everything looks so good from dessert to seafood to blue collar breakfast eatery :-)

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад +2

      You described Da Nang very well. I agree with it all. ^^
      Night life anywhere in Vietnam has been such a great experience.
      I need to start capturing those moments on video, because up until now I've just been experiencing it as I go along without trying to "ruin" it by filming.
      Thanks for this wonderful comment!!!

      Yeah the place is not like the U.S. don’t forget pack other meds to better to have then buy at Vietnam since medicine there is fake

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад +1

      So cool! How long will you be traveling in Vietnam? It's good to get your shots before coming here.
      I disagree with Moon Panda about fake medicine. Maybe it is in other regions, but in Hanoi, every medicine I've ever bought worked. And it's CHEAP and you don't need prescription. Hanoi is the capital and the government controls the pharmacies. The meds are effective, legit, and affordable so everyday Vietnamese citizens can buy them. Not everyone can afford to go to the hospital and pay large fees for doctor visits. I've bought antibiotics at the pharmacy for $0.33 cents and it worked like a charm. So all pharmacies are legit. Don't buy meds from someone peddling it in an alleyway or on a bicycle. lol

    • @remotedarren
      @remotedarren 6 лет назад

      Yeah, I agree with you Cory, plenty of genuine places to buy meds - fake meds are everywhere, especially in Bangkok which is where I am right now. I'm going to be in Vietnam for a month, starting off in Hanoi and moving down to Saigon/HCMC. Going to travel mainly by train, but need to organise the route. If you are free, it would be good to meet up and chat about remote working and RUclips! Understand if you are busy though! :)

      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад

      lol I'm glad you enjoyed it. There's definitely so many other places to eat and things to do.
      We just did it our way, we weren't out to make it some kind of street food listing review/guide like many other people do.
      I think that's what I like about traveling, sure, going to all the famous places is nice, but it's also nice to just wing it and explore freely without spending hours of research into it.
      Anything and everything we did or ate was by recommendation via Vietnamese groups on FB that my girlfriend saw. We didn't look at any English guides aimed at tourists.

    I managed to watch these two videos in the wrong order but I have to say they are both wonderful snapshots of the places you visit. For reasons 'unknown' I am incredibly hungry.
    One question I keep meaning to ask and manage to forget every time I watch one of your videos is, have you come a across a Vietnamese drink called Pinying? The spelling may be wrong as this dates back to 1973. I was told it was made from snakes suffused in rice wine and could get a person as stoned as a brick in about ten minutes. Bearing in mind this goes back to my time in South Vietnam 46-years, I could be wrong.
    I haven't found anyone in London who knows what I'm talking about.
    Take care out there & have fun - Al

    I think I need glasses, but at 8:22 it looks like there is a huge chuck of meet just chilling off to your right side on some sort of barrel or something

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад +1

      +tamelapriest Yep. You don't need glasses. That's exactly what it was. Large chunks of beef and pork cuts, ready to be used by the cook sitting behind me. That's where she preps all the broth and noodles and meat.
      Unrefrigerated meat is a common sight, you'll see butchers selling their stuff roadside with no ice or anything. Sounds unsafe, I know, but you'll be surprised how fast it gets sold and used. That lady probably used all that meat before she closed.
      I've never had food poisoning in the almost 5 months living here. ^^

      +diane Tackett Curry is HUGE in countries like India, Thailand, Singapore, and even Japan.
      But I've never really seen curry anywhere around Vietnam - the local Vietnamese just aren't eating it the way other Asian countries do. You can get it here, but it's not a common thing to eat.

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад

      LOL in Vietnam, and other countries, feeding your loved one is a sign of affection. Some countries show it more than others.
      The hand feeding is in several of my Vietnam videos from 2017 and it received so much negative feedback from people that my girlfriend and I decided to stop doing it on video. People just don't understand, and we're too tired of trying to explain to closed-minded people why we did it. Anyway, glad you're not freaked out about it. hehehe

    The Cory was feed! I said you were slipping in the last video and you made up for it in this video! 😄 Maracuya (passion fruit) is life. You are making me miss SE Asia! The going price for one maracuya here in Chicago right now is $2.99. In Thailand I can get a bag of 18-20 for that same price. I see you don't get a plate of fresh herbs with your dishes, is that something that is not common there? Cloudy day...cable car..mountains..I would have to pass on that one. You guys are brave. Is the gf going to help put captions in Vietnamese so you can reach a wider audience..Or atleast the title in Vietnamese?

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад

      Yeah, the previous video was just a channel update, it wasn't a food vlog or anything like that.
      Holy moly, one is $3.00?!? Yeah, they sell a bag of like 10 at the convenient store for less than $1.00. lol
      Some places gave herbs, some didn't. We noticed that some places weren't giving as much herbs in Da Nang and Hoi An. Maybe that's how they do it there? Or maybe just the places we went to were being cheap? lol
      I haven't asked my GF if she is willing to translate subtitles, that's a lot of work for someone to do. We'll see in the future...

    Great video. Going to DaNang in couple weeks. Heard water and ice might be contaminated, to avoid. Your experiences?

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, you should definitely carry your own water bottle around or buy them from a local store.
      Ice is a tough one... if the restaurant is chipping away at a large block of ice, that was probably made by themselves in a bathtub or other dirty container with tap water. Definitely avoid.
      But some restaurants will use ice that is cylindrical in shape, with a hollow tube through it. That was made by an ice machine using filtered water, generally that ice is fine. Ice from a cafe or tea shop are usually clean too, but just make sure you don't see them chipping away at a block of ice.
      To play it completely safe, just avoid all ice and you should have no problem. Also wipe all your utensils with a napkin, and wipe out any excess water sitting at the bottom of any empty bowls that are given to you. Just good practice.
      Carrying hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes is also something lots of travels do.
      As for food, if the place is full of people, there's a line of people, or you can see with your own eyes boiling/firey hot food being cooked in front of you, it's going to be OK. If the place has no customers, avoid it, the food has probably been sitting out for a long time. And if you're in doubt, look at the food and if it looks dried out and like it's been sitting for hours, don't eat there.
      Hopefully these tips help. I've never had food poisoning from any street food or restaurant in Vietnam. I only got really sick when I ate some bad chicken from the major supermarket chain here.

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад

      Hanoi is a motorbike city, it's 98% of all the vehicles you'll see on the road here.
      But, there are a number of expats who enjoy cycling, so yes, there are road cyclists here.
      Search on Facebook for "Vietnam bicycle" and you'll see some groups pop up.
      Vietnam is also a destination for people to ride motorcycles from north to south for an epic road trip.
      Cyclists do the same, it's about 1,800km journey from Hanoi to Saigon.

      +Crystal Wynn I'm sorry about that. In the noisy parts in the market, it's tough to hear. Just so much background noise. Next adventures I'll need to wear my lav mic. @hatemkhrouf8955 6 лет назад

      Hahaha, it's just when you chew/drink, otherwise it's cool.
      In general when a person is doing something and they look in your eyes it's awkward, few examples:
      Cutting wood when looking someone in the eyes
      Washing dishes when looking someone in the eyes
      Cleaning shoes...
      All of these are perfectly normal activities, but once you add the eye contact it definitely changes something.

    Love your videos but the being fed part is seriously icky. I know it's not your intent but it translates on video as certain stereotypes that are pretty awful. I'm glad you're happy, but remember, we only see one side of it (which is fine) but this can lead to misunderstanding and awkwardness. I wish you much off camera feeding of each other though!

    • @CoryMay81
      @CoryMay81  6 лет назад +1

      +Denise LeBlanc Thank you for your feedback. I like to know what people think about different aspects of my filming, editing, etc.
      Can you elaborate about the ickiness and certain stereotype that is awful? (You can PM me if you wish)
      I'm pretty open-minded and sensitive to all types of possible situations/misconceptions/etc, but I am not seeing why my girlfriend feeding me is negative.
      Is her feeding me a sterotype that Asian women who feed their men are subservient slaves? Am I being disrespectful towards Marie? (Marie knows everything about my GF including what she looks like, etc.)
      I want to know exactly what struck a chord with you so I can be more aware of any issues that may arise in the future for you and possibly other viewers.
      Anything negative is obviously unintended. Once again thank you for your feedback! I hope you enjoyed the rest of the video. ^^
