Artificial scarcity is exactly what all of the luxury goods companies do to keep people jumping through hoops and stay obsessed with their products. It’s no different. Great points Autumn!

I’m Canadian. I’ve been hearing a lot about Stanley Cups lately and I thought they were talking about hockey. 😂 I was a bit curious why so much talk about the trophy though and it was always referred to in the plural. Cups. 😂 I thought about googling it, but didn’t know what other words I should be using in my search to not just get the trophy!😂 Thanks for clearing all this up!

I'm not even a hockey person, and I'm originally from Washington state where I think Stanley1913 comes from, but even then ... My first reaction was like "Why's everyone going crazy over these Stanley Cups?" "I thought the Stanley Cup was a Hockey trophy?" and "What the -- are people stealing hockey trophies or something?" These are just based off me reading the headlines, mind, not looking at pics because I'm partially blind and wasn't interested at first. My fifth-grade sister just got a Stanley though, which is the first school status thing she's wanted. She brags to us how her 40-ounce is bigger than others in her class, and she loves it! I had to get one myself, and it should be here soon!
I'm not going to go crazy and start a Stanley collection, but ... impressed so far!

Excellent video, Autumn! I was just talking about the Starbucks Target fiasco with my husband. I’ve only come to know about this phenomenon of reselling limited edition cups recently. I’m good with the one I’ve got, but if a nice hot pink comes out again, I can’t say I won’t try to get one 😂
Also, thanks for going over the different features of the lid! I had no idea you could completely seal the straw hole by turning it around! 🤯
I have completely dismantled my lid to clean it since I saw a tik tok video on mold growth. Thankfully mine didn’t have any!

I have been obsessing over people obsessing over these cups 😂 I personally use Contigo and BEAST. I know I wouldn’t use the bigger ones, but I did buy the Stanley Hammertone Green Travel Mug. I actually will put it in my Contigo rotation. I loved that color and texture and will use it. This was such a great video. In another comment I called it a Stanley-mmentary 😂

This is by far THE BEST VLOG I've found explaining the Stanley cup craze I recently heard of. Your content is super informative on many levels. Thank you. While it's great that young people now have a "cool" reason to hydrate daily, spending close to $50 each for collections of these tumblers in different colors, accessories, etc., sometimes waiting in overnight lines at Target, getting in fights, or spending even more money for online resale tumblers, is not only ridiculous but hypocritical to the millennial Mom's who ignited this fad on their social media accounts and those who have bought into this craze. I mean, aren't Millennials the generation concerned more about experiences rather than material "stuff" and saving the earth from over saturated garbage dumps? The Stanley Company is rejoicing all the the way to the bank, just like the Ty company did back in the 90's with the Beanie Babies, all while yet another generation of kids are being taught valueless lessons. Perhaps a better lesson to teach would be YES buy ONE Stanley tumbler, maybe with a couple of accessories to individualize. Be satisfied with owning a great product that will last many years all while providing healthy daily hydration and great memories once kids grow up and look back on their school years. Just a thought...

Hello from Italy from a 46 yrs old lady with no kids!
I really enjoyed your video, I think it's the most exhaustive one among all those I've watched lately. I got to know about Stanley cups last Xmas, mostly from memes on Facebook, but I didn't got to get what/why was all the craze about them.....Fast forward to two weeks ago, when I was in bed with an obnoxious flu and nothing to do, out of bore I started googling about it. And a world opened to me😂. Long story short, I now have 3 cups already (one is for a present) and other 2 on the way 😂😂😂 but they are all strictly dupes because first of all I think it's immoral spending 50/80€ for a thermos; second they aren't a thing at all here in Italy/Europe and you can find just a couple of boring colors if you want the original one; 3rd I'm a crafty gal and I want to try and personalize at least one.
In the end, as you stated, it's just another of many collection items, like glasses, mugs, coffee (espresso)cups...and I am an avid collector of many different things, such as Trollbeads bracelets, vintage Murano glass ashtrays, Tiffany silver jewelry and other collectibles. I'd like to have some uranium glass either in my collections, but it's very hard to find it in Europe, so I just follow some groups on Facebook. I will follow your channel for more videos! Bye!

This video is outstanding, Autumn! You really did answer all of my questions about Stanley cups and more! I've heard Stanley cups mentioned a few times in conversations with friends/colleagues but didn't understand why they were so popular. Your description of them as fashion accessories makes the craze over them make a lot more sense. Thanks for the deep dive into their different features, why they could be considered "collectibles," and how they are no different from collecting anything else.

I like my Stanley cup (in the oh-so-classy black glow with silver lol). I don’t feel like I need another one, but I do appreciate both the quality and the recycled stainless. I think it is fine to collect them, at least they are a super useful item, so why not? I have the 30 oz, but maybe I will get the 40 oz later in the charcoal color. 🙂
But never would I ever camp in front of Target to get a pink one. 😮

I’m not really in either camp. I have a small collection of insulated stainless steel water bottles, tumblers, and coffee cups. I’ve been buying since 2016 so I like to think I was ahead of the trends. It started with the cheaper Walmart versions, and progressed to Hydroflask, Brűmate, Yeti, and finally Stanley. I only have one Stanley, which I bought from Stanley. I’ve never seen the TikTok video that you’re talking about. I’m attracted to the different colors but never the viral ones. I’ve also been collecting expensive sticker to put on them, mainly from Blank Tag Co.

You have a great voice, Autumn. I was playing your video in the background as I was working from home and you definitely sound like a school teacher and that's a good thing. I was listening to what you were saying even though I wasn't really watching the video and I appreciate it. 👍 I learned a lot. I buy my Stanley cups from the Stanley website, but I have missed out on a few releases because I'm not sure when they exactly release things and that has made me mad but I don't trust the third party market to risk buying something that may turn out to be fake. But I did pay attention when you were talking about how to spot a fake, so that part of your video was especially helpful. Thanks again! ❤

They are just the right size for me, fits in my cup holder, the top can be cleaned very well in dishwasher. They are completely spill proof, I've learned that. They have come down in price which is great. Too each there their choice. Really enjoy the blogs especially when you go on trips.

Honestly I bought a Stanley, I also own Brumate, Yeti and hyrdoflask. The Stanley Quencher cups are actually not that great to be honest. They don’t hold ice for very long, they spill if knocked over. I sold mine and got one with a foldable straw instead that holds ice better and doesn’t spill.

Replace "Stanley Cup" with "Beanie Baby" and "Target Stores" with "Hallmark Gold Crown Stores" and bingo you've made a time machine. The main difference (I believe) is that in less than a year the Stanley craze will be mostly over.... That said - I have one - my wife has a couple (or three now) - they're great for the reasons called out in the video.

I mean I wasn’t necessarily a Stanley cup fan but I do collect Starbucks tumblers and when I found out there was a collab I knew I needed the cup 😂. So I got it. But I agree it’s like collecting snythin else. This just happens to be a cup but it sure is a heck of a lot cheaper than collecting handbags 😂😂😂.

    Hey Autumn,
I really did enjoy that video.
Although I probably won’t be getting on board with collecting them, I have one which I’m totally happy with, I might check out the boots and accessories 😜.
Once again thanks for the educational info 👍

Let me state an obvious that no one is saying. Why are these even allowed in school at all? If they are whatever proof and have heft, couldn't some use it as a weapon?
You talking about school brought up an unpleasant memory. I was hit with a single use water bottle randomly thrown at my head. If we're in the age of the clear backpack, why is a solid water bottle allowed?

I don't get why people are upset. These have been popular for a couple years. I have a Hydroflask and (I just looked and the price has increased on those too!) and it is purple and it keeps my ice water icy for 24 hours. I get it. Stay hydrated!

I have one and love it. I could see having 2, one for work and one for home.
    But 50? 🙄
Edit: My 86yo mom knows how much I love my Stanley. She asked her grandson (my kid) for the knockoff from Five Below. 😆 She would never spend $45.

I get it. I mean.. I don’t have this particular obsession, but I can see the fun in it. If they were around $25 I would probably buy one. For now, I like my metal Starbucks cups that I use my loyalty stars to buy for cheap.
