If memory serves me right, he said "the fingering are the same 'in theory', but baroque flutes lack the valve actions found in modern-day flutes, thus the playing is harder".

@Mariezee44 It's called "flauto traverso". It is one of the baroque woodwind instruments and the ancestor of modern flute made of metals.
This is the first time I've heard Bach for flute and it sounds amazing!
