i'm trying to share an excel workbook exported from power bi (from analize in excel tab) with other co-workers, but i can't get it done, is there any way to do it? am i missing something? (i'm using the 60 days pro trial)
Good morning, friends. I'm loving the new #PowerBI desktop. Anyone else addicted to building #dashboard reports in Power BI? #businessintelligence FTW!
I am using latest version of power BI and enjoying preparing different reports, analysis and Dashboards as well. All these documents are very easy to make on Power BI.
Hello Dustin, Thanks a lot, this is very good video for beginners. I am experienced guy into MSBI development. Now I want to learn POWER BI, this is my first video to start.
Great presentation. Been doing DW/DM/BI For over a decade and found your tutorial very useful. I think after this tutorial, I can work on my own without any additional help.
@Dustin Ryan, thanks a lot for your insightful video. you just made clear to me the relationship between Power BI desktop and Power Pivot. I learnt a lot and also connected the missing dots by watching your video
Walk through an introduction to the #PowerBI Desktop with Dustin Ryan. In this video you'll learn to import data, apply transformations and formatting to the data, build a dashboard report with multiple chart types, format the reports, and then publish the report to your Power BI site. #businessintelligence #msbi
Dustin, I really liked your video. I've worked as a Microsoft Trainer for a few years and also consulting with SQL Server. You were very easy to follow and understand. I have also worked with QlikSense and QlikView. It seems that his product does a lot of the same type of stuff. I wanted to be able to talk about the product if someone asks me and with your video, I can more than do that. Thanks for putting it up :)
Hi Dustin. Must confess one the better Intro vids for Power BI I've come across! Like your sample data and how you used it to it's full capacity. Worthwhile signing up to Opusdata to get that sample file. Thanks, keep up the good work!
Thanks, Leon. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I've been toying with the idea of redoing the video with a more publically available dataset that I made available for download. I don't normally like to redo what I've already done, but I would if it was beneficial to the community. In your opinion, would that be worth the effort?
Please REDO! Yes Dustin. Even if I now speak on behalf of the community. The DAX functions you've covered is interesting and fits in with the overall theme you had going there. Now that's what you call a proper Power BI Introduction. The visuals as well speaks to the data and represents it quite well. I'm looking forward to your next installment. THANK YOU for your dedication in contributing to the success of the Power BI Desktop app!
I think for me personally, Financial samples showing products, units sold, manufacturer, sales price, gross sales, profits would work. I do not work with Finances, but think it's great to use them in Power BI. Seems to me one can be more flexible with visuals and DAX functions. Thanks for following up Dustin!
Is there anyway to create a dashboard just on Power BI Desktop for in house sharing? Or must all dashboards be published before you can link the visualizations to reports
This video is so nice gives me good understand about Power Bi in very short time also requesting to post the advanced topics in PowerBI.. Thanks a lot :)
Hi Dustin. Your work is fenomenal. I saw this days your report in PowerBI about NFL. You should make a vide explaining how you did that. Thanks for the tips.
Deployment / Publishing Do we have to do only at PowerBI website or my company can have it;s own Power BI server or Can we publish on to MS SQL Reports Server? Appreciate your reply and guidance. Wish you good luck!
Great Work Dustin!! Could please assist me with below question:- How to connect SAP BO Universe In power BI desktop? How to Create Alias In Power BI Desktop? Does Power-BI has any restriction on the number of columns & Rows while Importing? How is Report Performance in Power BI if number of users are more ? Thanks,
+JavierII Gonzalez There's a couple different ways to share content in the Power BI service (app.powerbi.com). You can share a dashboard by right-clicking the ellipses next to the dashboard and clicking share. You can also share content through Content Packs, which you can read about here: powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-service-organizational-content-packs-introduction/ I hope this helps. :)
+JonnyTeronni You can use the free Power BI desktop download to get started but if you want to deploy your Power BI reports and share them you'll need the Power BI site which requires the appropriate Office 365 subscription.
Hey Dustin, wonderful video. Thank you for your excellent intro. I have a query, say if i publish the report to P.B service , how is the data secure on cloud? How reliable is it then ?
+carlos Not to my knowledge. You can, however, view the Power Query code being generated: sqldusty.com/2015/08/10/cleaning-your-powerbi-power-query-code/
Hello, I just learned about PowerBI today. I have *Office 2010 32 bit installed on Windows 7 Pro 64 bit. I just downloaded 64 bit Power BI* (the Microsoft website chose it for me). I have not installed PowerPivot but I do have the 32 bit 91.0MB MSI installer. *Can I use PowerBI with my Office 2010 32 bit?* Thanks in Advance.
Hi Dustin....You made the video that I needed. When are you posting more videos? You created the reports but you didn't pin any of the report to the dashboards on POwerBi website. Would be cool if you do that. Can you do a video on connecting to the SQL server and create a report from there? Thanks Dustin. I will be visiting your blog now.
+Iñigo Mazo There's not an easy way to drill down to the details. At this point Power BI isn't optimized for displaying the detail data. The latest version of Power BI does provide drill down functionality but not to the most granular level of data. When you deploy a Power BI model to your Power BI site, however, the data source is deployed so that users can create their own reports. This may give your users the ability to view the data as they wish which may answer some of their business questions.
Nice job Dustin. Is there a demo using date pulled from wikepedia? This tool just blew my mind. It will be so helpful for so many researchers in many areas. Thank-you again Dustin.
+Mark Chinsky The Power BI Enterprise Gateway is used to administrate connections between the Power BI Service and the on-prem data sources. You can read more about the Power BI gateways here: powerbi.microsoft.com/en-us/documentation/powerbi-gateway-enterprise/
Power BI Desktop is the desktop authoring tool used to create content. Power BI refers to the service that runs in Azure used to distribute the content, allow collaboration and creation. Power BI Desktop publishes to the Power BI service where the published content is viewed and shared. Hope this helps. :)

Ok cool, I can probably find some data based on retail data that fits that criteria.

Dustin, what program are you using to write to your screen?
It's called ZoomIt. It's a free download. Just do a search for ZoomIt.exe and you'll find it.

Thanks, great video. Once you published it, how does it update the data if the source is a local spreadsheet or SQL Database? Is it automatic?

Great video!! One quick question, Power BI vs Power BI desktop, what's the difference?
Power BI Desktop is the desktop authoring tool used to create content. Power BI refers to the service that runs in Azure used to distribute the content, allow collaboration and creation. Power BI Desktop publishes to the Power BI service where the published content is viewed and shared. Hope this helps. :)
+Dustin Ryan Got it. Thanks for prompt reply :)
