Home Depot sells large rolls of loosely woven burlap for $10-$12, they are very easy to strip strands off or cut strips. Also for any one who is going to build a G suit 1) tip is 99% of “G suits” you see online or RUclips have way WAY to much jute! What you want is 30% jute and 70% natural vegetation. 2) tip natural fibers like jute are much better at blended in than synthetic fibers. 3) tip when you are done making your G suit dunk it in a mud puddle get it loaded with mud, then rub it on some grass/plants. This is essential for the suit to be able to blend into the natural environment . It can also help mitigate not illuminate just mitigate your IR and thermal signature (Mitigate).
I’ve been saving the hair that collects in the bottom of the shower drains and I have a complete upper half suit for when SHTF. I think I should start on some for my family to be completely honest.
I've camouflaged myself as a road cone. So far, I have remained undetected. Seriously, thank you SP1 and SP2 for the content. We all learn something new every day. good info, here.
We constantly have to make the decision to trade time for money or vice versa. Reloading is the same way. By working overtime I can make more than reloading can save me so while I have the gear to reload and have done so in the past I haven't done it in years. Same with the suit, I bought a base and yarn and threw it together in a few evenings. Sometimes I have more time than money, sometimes it's the other way around.
Forgot one crucial piece SP1. that all ghillie's need upgraded with is a layer of protection against thermal/heat signature. Thanks 4 the videos sp1 always great info
Built my first ghillie when I was 14 using a surplus flight suit, netting and destranded burlap from some old potato sacks. Took me a couple nights to do but it was awesome
Nicely done! And a great layout for demonstration. I'm looking forward to building one. I had a terrible example of a suit one day a few years ago and I was still able to sneak up on my cousins to within about 10 yards and I crawled a hundred yards across an open field to get there. They should have been able to see me. But because I moved so slowly. I was not detected. Finally I couldn't contain my laughter any longer so I just jumped up and they nearly soiled themselves. LOL
Gray Bearded Green Beret also has a good gillie construction video. He cuts a huge hole on the back panel of the base shirt and sews in that mesh just like you! Excellent video, SP2!
Excellent video! I've been working on one for a year now off and on. My son and I use it for airsoft. Looking forward to the rest of the videos. I use the shoe goo too. Netting from Hobby lobby. using mostly jute from the dollar store...well the 1.25 store now. Along with other stuff.
This reminds me that everyone needs to learn basic sewing. Shoe Goo is great and is a must in the go bag. Great for field expedient boot repair, tent seam repair, etc. Put it in a ziplock bag just in case of leaks.
Think you could do some videos on some small unit tactics? Teach people some stuff on how to properly do a recce, how to move in a squad level, and other stuff of that nature. A lot of folks are more gear-centric, but aren't well versed on how to operate in small teams or other important tactics/skills.
Ghillies don’t conceal thermal imaging. You need radiant barrier fabric. Sandwich some cotton batting between two layers and a tight camo mesh on the outside. This is proven to conceal your heat signature. I don’t know why this info isn’t out there. I had a nv guy argue me that I’m wrong then the post was taken down.
That does work , but the suit is extremely bulky, I've been working on on a few versions , still trying to slim down the bulk and make It more packable
Great topic, i used to build them as hobby. Look up how to make water soluble fire retardant. Soaking your suit in it. So you don’t go up like a Roman Candle. Water soluble keeps the fibers looking natural and not compromising camouflage
Crochet cheap yarn works too. Crochet tubes and sew together. Tie pieces onto the crochet. Fre the ends so they pick up natural vegatation. You can roll in your surroundings for a perfect match. Wear over the top of your clothing. I like the foam idea.
Thank you Nathan. Sgt Dave and your Mom gave you the name of a wonderful Man of God. Thank you for as the subject matter expert continually sharing what Uncle Sam gave you.

U could also buy ya seed potatoes for ur old lady for Valentine's day and get a free burlap that holds the potatoes and a happy woman with seed potatoes and y'all can plant em together and make Gillie suits together
i made one years ago, or was it decades ago, but i did it wrong. i had a green field jacket and sewed on strips of thin burlap. the strips were good. i got a couple of colors of dye and progressively watered it down for several shades of that color. the problem was using the jacket. it was real heavy. i have hunted all my life and i dont like the cold. i had the idea of turning some ex large BDUs inside out and completely lining them with some of that foam. probably really heavy, also.
My husband and his buddies used to hunt coyotes. They went out in sub zero weather all the time. I bought him a camo bandana to cover his face. I made him wear it one evening when they went out. A coyote came up within 30ft of him, and one of the guys watched this, he did not shoot. His breath came up out of that bandana and fogged his scope when he pulled up to shoot. Of course his friend couldn't shoot because it was not in his kill zone, but witnessed it all. It was a fun time, but I got my bandana back.
Any chance you would consider doing a similar video to cam your rifle? We use to make some rifle ghillie cam for when we were on OP, recces and things like that, but I was just a grunt so not exactly a pro.

Radiant barrier material. The fabric kind with cotton batting sewn between with tight mesh camo sewn on the outside. Then make cloak out of that. Thermal imaging evaded.
I would rather get my hands on the military's latest, invisibility suits. One of my friends ordered a suit from ACME Military Supply Co. When he got the package and opened it though....it was empty! LMAO!!!! 😆😂😁
I would suggest try using a white plastic shower curtain. Cut it up into small strips and tie them on. I've never tried that but next fall I plan on trying it.
On another note...I need some advice on flashlights... Do you think that a red or a green light might be better after or during SHTF? The reason I'm asking is because I can only afford one and it might offer advantages over normal white light that might be useful so I don't want to make a bad choice. I can buy two lower tier flashlights (normal white light) that aren't as bright but last a bit longer for the same price as one that is German made and seems to be a superb one. I believe that batteries might be a problem during SHTF so I want to standardize my loadout with 18650's which should be plentiful and interchangeable between my other lights that I already have. What do you guys think?
Sorry no time. The new one Nate is making he will have unbelievable amount of time in it but it is being built to the standard he needs for his job. Most people can get by with alot less in the build and be as good.
