Ensuring labour don't coast by simply for not being the Tories is why it's important that the Tories get utterly obliterated and replaced as main opposition party by the Lib Dems. The Lib Dem manifesto is actually promising impressive shit and is arguably more left wing than Labour's right now.

Keep in mind that labor is also going to be the likely winner, whereas lib dems are an unlikely winner. This means that labor can’t promise a bunch of stupid shit they actually can’t do or things that sounds good on paper but would have an adverse effect on the economy if implemented.
This is why a lot of things they promise is so tame. You can’t just wave your hand and implement changes. You can’t just promise more doctors when there are barely any incentives for doctors to actually pursue a career in the UK, you can’t implement wealth tax when it’ll just lead to more tax evasion.

To be a little cynical, the Lib Dem’s don’t have to make a manifesto that works. They aren’t going to win the election so can promise bigger things easier. Even a manifesto that seems well costed can lean to be on the more generous side than since you won’t be accountable for delivering what you say.
Labour should have been more ambitious though. By all data they look to be on track to win by a silly big majority and will basically be able to pass whatever they want.

I liked the Lib Dem and Green Manifestos the best. The Greens are ambitious as Hell (like a 2030 net zero target and investing in green energy in Africa) and I can respect that, but there are just too many obviously impossible things in there that make it obviously clear they are a party obviously unprepared for any amount of power, whereas the Lib Dems strike a good balance between ambitious and realistic. As much as I am sympathetic to the Labour government, it never fully addressed the elephant in the room. Brexit. A European nation-state that once had unbridled access to a continent-wide common market with free movement of peoples that enriched our society. A noble and incredible idea. I have since temporarily moved to Spain because I see no future for me in the UK. I was living at home with my parents at 38 because I could not afford private rent; a mortgage was a pipe dream. I only have 90 days living in Spain because of the wonders of Brexit but dear lord, what a difference! A more livable and affordable country and my everyday anxiety has dissipated. After my three months are up, I will not return to the UK. I will live elsewhere. I am not sure how I am going to do it. Yet an overriding aspect that drives me is that I will not return to that dreadful place that caused me such anxiety in the first place. A nation that is so expensive, filled with decaying austerity-inspired potholed streets, drugs, homelessness, food banks and this awing for populist politics. The UK is where I was born and grew but I no longer see it as my home.

Labour have to climb out of this hole that they have been thrown into. The manifesto should be a no nonsense, straight to the point deal. But at the same time it dose not want to be a circus of elaborate ideas that cannot possibly come to any climax. What we really need to do is just be patient. Lots of work that needs to be done.

    *TLDR:*
We promise Labour will do little more than what the Tories did 10 or so years ago! We promise nothing will change, and to manage decline! We'll pander to corpos and ray sis ts, and ensure the neoliberal rightwing hold on the Labour party, doesn't weaken! Yay! Great news everyone!

Which is the only way "Labour"[sic] are permitted to enter government in the Neoliberal era.
Left of centre? No no no, here come the smear campaigns, backroom blackmailing and massive "donations" to their opponents.
The "managed decline" is kind of nice, now and again, to break up the catastrophic decline the Blue Tories unleash on us, which unfortunately means the punt up rage that's ready to overthrow the whole lot, eases up, permitting the decline to continue.

And what would your plan be?
We have a debt to GDP ratio of 100% with high interest rates meaning a huge chunk of the budget is going on debt repayments. Any high spending policies would require a huge increase in tax revenue, and speculative taxes like a wealth tax that have been proven time and time again to not work as intended in a global financial system will not be enough to pick up the slack. You would have to increase the big three taxes which overwhelmingly hit working people, and no one will vote for a party planning to do that.
I would love it if we could introduce policies such as a negative income tax topping up the income of everyone earning less than £15k a year, £50 billion a year of additional funding to stabilise and modernise the NHS and a renationalisation of the utility and rail companies. But we live in the real world and not a fantasy land so those policies are completely unaffordable.

A few observations. 1. Most Non Doms are extremely mobile what assumptions have Labour made from the loss of income from the Non Doms that leave as against the extra tax they charge on the NonDoms that stay. Currently the UK is third in the world (above Russia) for High Net Worth people leaving the country in preparation for a Labour Government. 2. What assumptions have Labour made for the extra costs of privately educated pupils who cannot afford the VAT joining mainstream education against the revenue assumptions on VAT on private schools. 3. It is said that 90% of your spend on medical care is spent in the year of your death. The baby boomers who were born from 1946 onwards are now 78. Their demographic is 4 times larger than the one behind it. They will start dying enmasse over the next 5 years what assumptions have Labour made about this cost when costing for NHS requirements. 4. A recent article in the telegraph estimated that the upgrading required on the Electricity distribution system to cope with a conversion to electric cars would double the cost of electricity why do Labour think it will actually reduce the cost of electricity. 5. The Labour party states that the bond crisis was caused by the Truss budget was there anything else that happened the week of the Truss budget that would impact the relative demand for UK and US bonds, such as the failure of the Bank of England to copy the 75 basis point rise in interest rates the day before the budget, why does no one mention this and call them out. 6. The fail all of Labour is that even if all fails they will raise growth as when they ran government growth was higher. They fail to mention this was achieved with massive increases in the money supply, selling the country'd gold reserves for $250 an ounce (now $2330 and ounce), putting an extra million people on the public payroll, running up huge debt obligations in the NHS under PFI and leading to a bust of a 15% fiscal deficit that took years to sort out.
