Hey everyone, thanks for tuning in for this one! It's been interesting these past years, seeing the stories of the radicals and most-wanteds of the '60s and '70s suddenly show up in breaking news. Even if updates like these represent final chapters, it's amazing how long the stories of the likes of the JRA and the EAAJAF are continuining on for. I wonder if we'll find out about Daidoji Ayako, Sasaki Norio, and Bando Kunio - they're among the most well-known from the era still on the lam.
Anyway, hope you enjoyed this one!

This story is how I fell down the whole Japanese new left rabbit hole, and found this channel. The JRA documentary was really good

Glad you enjoyed the JRA series! There's so much to learn about that era in Japan, and the ripples it's still creating today. Hoping to continue covering New Left history on here.

@noahoskow4551 Know where to find more content about these events in Japan from the 50's to the 70's? There seems to have been a ton of protests and insane unrest going on(like it's seen with the Red Army Faction) but there isn't much information available in English

Amazing documentary!! As always, the editing and the music was great, but the writing this time was, for me, the [chef's kiss]! Following this case live here has certainly been... a trip. What a time to be alive.

Good use of the Jin roh soundtrack

I've found the Jin-Roh soundtrack to be very fitting for stories about the era - which makes sense, given it's about an alternate-history version of the battle between Japan's armored police and student radicals.

I love your channel as a Japanese.
I can tell that you are a true expert, without the stereotype-filled view of Japan that is so common in western media.
By the way, Could you please make a video about the "Uchi-Geba" (internal struggle) of the New Left that occurred throughout Japan from the 1960s to the 2000s and resulted in the deaths of a hundred people.
I think these infighting are historically important because they led to political apathy in Japan and the decline of the New Left, but it is little known outside of Japan.

Hey, appreciate the comment! I think covering the 内ゲバ is actually a great idea - the fact that the sects continued to wage deadly battle against each other decades after their movement had faltered is something that deserves more attention. In particular, I think the story of the Chūkaku-ha deserves some more attention.

The results of the DNA tests are in - the report is that “Uchida’s” DNA contains nothing that would “contradict” him being a member of Kirishima’s family. In other words, certainly seems like he was who he claimed to be.

And now, the official report is in! based on DNA comparisons with family members/other evidence, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Public Safety Bureau has officially designated the man who claimed to be Kirishiima as the real deal. The report also claims investigators believe he was involved in 5 separate bombings that directly resulted in gravely injuring two people.

Looks worth checking out given its reception - funny that the character's name is even spelled the same way, 「桐島」.

Yeah kirishima did awful things. but it's actually pretty impressive how he outsmarted everyone even the police couldn't catch him. He is a genius in my opinion.

He won by living a completely lonely and isolated life and in complete destitution.
Imagine working construction for 40 years. This is back breaking labor. Can you imagine the physical pain he was in? No ID means no loans and no opportunity to start a business or buy a new home. He probably spent most of what he earned on utility bills and booze. He knew no companionship, had no contact with friends or family. It is likely that only his love for music kept him sane. I actually feel sorry for the man.
      Flawless victory?

@@axnoro That's not true at all. He was liked by many friends and played in a band at parties. You should google a little before you post.

@@deadby15 Playing in bands at parties and being well liked by some people is not a qualifier for a fulfilled life. Try working physical labor for decades without having any contact with your mother or father. I don't know in what fantasy land do people call his life a win, I wouldn't wish it on anyone.
