- Catching Gar for me is pretty easy because of where I live but this one was on the larger side so I decided to make a video showing my process for cleaning these fish and keeping the skull.
Please remember these are not trash fish and they do not hinder the balance of the local ecosystem, they are native fish and actually do the opposite and help maintain balance. Don’t kill these awesome fish based on misguided beliefs.

Man I never cleaned a fish with tin snips as a viable required tool! The more i learn about these dinosaurs, the cooler I think they are! Those teeth are no joke either! Nice catch! Awsome catch... Ive been fishing for over 30 years... I never caught a gar... 2-3 years ago my wife (new to fishing) asked to do a couple cast with my rod for fun, gets a gar on the line as she goes to pull the fish out of the water sees what it is and drops the rod... Fortunately the fish broke the line before it pulled the rod into the water....
Dang. It’s crazy to me how many people don’t catch them. They are super abundant where I live. Thought they were everywhere
