Steven Reinekes is a musical genius! What a masterpiece! Not to many artists who can include such a warm trombone solo and still the keep the plot the way it was meant to be!
God, this song is amazing...I play first trombone, and have the honor of playing the small, but absolutely beautiful solo in the middle of the piece. Just listening to this has brought just tears to my eyes. Steven Reineke, You have made a piece that is incomparable on many, many levels. I cannot begin to word the thankfulness I have for you for composing this work of art. Continue making these, for the world needs them.
This was the last song our Symphonic band played for the year, and my last song as a senior. When 2:13 hit i put my arm around my trumpet player buddy and we just sat and listened and by 2:43 I was teary eyed
We played this for our winter concert! It was a bit of a challenge, what with all those tricky runs for the clarinets, but it was super fun. And it's a great piece!
I played this a few years ago (1st trombone). Two lovely memory spots. The high Gb in the solo that I could never hit (easy now lol), and the ridiculous 16th notes in the last measure. I literally flutter-tongued it and still had problems playing it that fast. I ended up making it eighth notes for performances. Good times :-)
I'm playing the first trumpet part on this for my high school adjudication, we just started and my director says we are doing great. I think we have a good chance to get a superior! Great piece though I love it, not to challenging but a few surprises.
@BestBuyReallySucks Here is Reineke's song structure for all his music: Intro-this is either minimalistic or loud-followed by a small climax, then a statement of the melody through woodwinds, then the statement of the melody through brass, a solo followed by a soft woodwinds feature, then a crescendo into a sort of grand chord-heavy section, which then transitions back into the statement of the melody by the woodwinds, then the brass, and then the outro.
@SemperFidelis52 The composer is the one that made all the notes, dynamics, etc. of the solo. Of course the trombone player made the solo itself sound amazing AFTER the composer wrote it. I simply didn't mention it because people (like you) already know it, and people (like me) know I don't need to acknowledge it because there are not many idiots out there who think that the way they read something is the way it was meant to be read. I am a trombone player, who are you to comment on who I am?
To be honest, this was one of the easier pieces that my band played while I was in high school. Then again, I was a percussion player, so I don't know how hard this piece was to the other band players. We also played Songs of Sailor and Sea, which was fun and a challenge to play for the percussion heavy part..., and our percussion section was very undermanned by the parts needed... So I played at five parts in that tune, and i had a blast. Difficult it was, ocean drum and wind chimes same time.
We're playing this in community band; I keep waiting for the Marlboro Man to come riding through the door. I'm not familiar with any of R's other music, but this seems to me to be a pale imitation of the Theme from the Magnificent Seven.
@BestBuyReallySucks It's not just those 2. I can find 6 songs written by him that have the exact same song structure. There is another song where the trombone part is very similar, just the melody over it is altered. As a trombone player(playing the chords and background in most music) I can tell more than most. The only difference is that the solo is played by a trumpet instead of a trombone.
sounds to me very much like a shortened version of Pilatus: mountain of dragons, but that's just me, love the clarinet/flute/(and possibly horn, might be another instrument) trio at 4 min
If you guys want to know what song Steven Reineke blatantly stole this melody from, type in "Silverado Theme" into the youtube search bar above you. I've spoken with Steven Reineke personally, and I happen to know this for a fact.
Dear Thomas, I am a conductor by profession, and in my opinion the third instrument you are referring to is either a baritone or a tuba. What I hear is not a horn.
@Eliminator1515 As a trombone player, I've actually performed this solo live, and it's actual composition is not very noteworthy. Not only do all of Steven Reineke's compositions follow the EXACT SAME SONG STRUCTURE(And I mean EXACT.) as each other, but the man steals all of his melodies from other composers. As a composer, I can tell you Steven Reineke is nothing special, considering I've met the man in person.
Had the honor of playing the first trumpet part my sophomore year! This song brings back a lot of memories!
Had so much fun playing this song in senior band. We did awesome. Euphonium, heck yeah!
Played this once in 7th grade, getting to play it again as a college freshman. I love this song.

In our band, we don't have a bassoon. So, as tenor saxophone, I got to play the solo. It was awesome!
I know this comment is 8 years old, but I just did the same thing in my band.
This was the last song our Symphonic band played for the year, and my last song as a senior. When 2:13 hit i put my arm around my trumpet player buddy and we just sat and listened and by 2:43 I was teary eyed
i played the trumpet solo and all the high stuff and i can honestly say i had one hell of a fun time playin this piece
One of my favorite Steven Reineke songs along with Main Street Celebration :D
Such a good song. Plain n simple.
Same! Currently playing it and its a real great piece.
We played this for our winter concert! It was a bit of a challenge, what with all those tricky runs for the clarinets, but it was super fun. And it's a great piece!
we play this in band right now, awesome song

We should have done this for Jr. All-State this year...
2:06 sounds like great music to use for a peaceful village in a fantasy game.
This song is easy but still brings a challenge for us
IKR my band was gonna play it but we couldn't sucks!!!
Where did you find this music for download?
From a website or did you buy it?
We are playing this song for jr. alstate!! dangg...i hope we don't go this fast...its so hard for the flutes!!
It's very similar to Silverado :S
But great ! Love the composer :)

MODEL!
I'm playing this in seventh grade. 3rd chair clarinet. And let me say... We are so screwed.
To be honest, this was one of the easier pieces that my band played while I was in high school. Then again, I was a percussion player, so I don't know how hard this piece was to the other band players.

This song has many similar parts as his other song river of life.
sounds to me very much like a shortened version of Pilatus: mountain of dragons, but that's just me, love the clarinet/flute/(and possibly horn, might be another instrument) trio at 4 min
Our Bassoon can't reach the high notes on the solo, so, I GET IT! :D ... I play Euphonium, by the way :)
Luke me 2 I'm first trombone the solo is so beautiful

Jr. Allstate last year! The music isn't nearly as hard this year, though...
Hard solo
Sounds like a take on Silverado.

우리 관악부가 불렀던거와 너무 차이난다...
근데 다른 sedona랑 같아보이지
@Eliminator1515 hes not a music genius. he copies other songs and changes them slightly and makes money.
rip off on Silverado much?
lol. Huge rip off. But still a great song.
@almightyJ620 Durrice lol i finally have a solo. thx for lettin me play it.
