God, I wish my school band was good enough to play this again. All the seniors left and now there's very few people who actually care about music as I do....
I played this back in high school and went "wait, isn't this the theme from Independence Day"? I miss playing so much, and this song was such a blast, especially on my instrument (trumpet).
I also play clarinet and i started last year. I’m in high school 8th grade (secondary 2) and I’m in two bands this year the one with 7th and 8th grades and the big band in my school. I’m gonna play this with the big band and I love the sound of it. But I’m also nervous bc I still can’t go to the second register.
This song brings wonderful memories. My Middle school band played that, it was amazing. That summer, our boy scout troop went on a week long canoe trip in the canadian boundary waters, I had this song going through my head the entire trip. It was the most beautiful thing ever.
This is absolute brilliance! I love how cinematic it sounds, especially at the beginning with the French Horn. The 7/8 time is just so amazing and that flute solo? Wow!
Im playing this song in Washington High School for the concert festival coming up next week! This song is so beautiful i love it im playing the flute as well!
This piece is fun for percussionists... When you have a sufficient amount of players. My school is doing this for NYSSMA Majors and we are load of a total of five percussionists, hence setups have to happen. I’m currently playing most of Timpani and Mallet Percussion and the missing colors from percussion in the musicality standpoint really brings my OCD out. Bright side, Reineke’s percussion writing is beautiful and blending with the whole motif of the piece of being in a rapid river, especially in the 7/8. If you understand my pain thank you for relating me :)
I played this for a kent state wind ensemble I'm in back in November. I wish I could play that concert for the first time again because it was one of the best things I've ever done.
was scouring the internet for music i played in school. kinda nostalgic even though it wasnt that long ago. we played this the year covid hit. that was my last year of band, and only year i had of in person-learning. I dropped out in 11th grade, I just wish I was back in 2019 again.
We are playing this song in class and I love it and hate it because my teacher who started trumpet last year thinks he's at my level and said "well I can't reach that so i'm also giving you an alternative !" YES. I. CAN. I can reach a high B. You know this, teacher. Anyhow I love this song overall and our band mostly formed of 10th graders such as myself are doing an awesome job playing it. Yes, we have like 5 11th/12th graders.
@@kaitlynnave9738 To be perfectly honest... I don’t remember which chair position I’m in, but I play 1st trombone. I guess we’ll be kinda far apart. I’m Rose btw.
@ArabellaCTegrusha Couldn't have been published in 1886 because Steven Reineke was born in 1970, thus the song was written well after that. And it was published in 1999, after the movies "The Little Mermaid" and "Independence Day" were released. And from the sound of the music, it is not a Victorian era piece.
I'm currently playing this in Symphonic Band, I play the timpani. I'm so nervous for when we perform because of the solo in m.155 (after the big crescendo of air). It's an easy solo for me, I just am extremely nervous.
@cousins1701 thing is, as more and more music are created, you can't avoid having more than one piece of music sound alike. so i don't think he intentionally plagiarizes film music.
This past season we did a marching band show to this piece...it was kind of butchered though because of our small size and awkward instrumentation. (2 piccolos, 4 clarinets, 2 trumpets, 2 mellophones, 3 alto sax, 3 tenor sax, plus 6 in drumline & 7 in pit)
1:13 is Little Mermaid Part of Your World. 1:34 is theme from Independence Day. There are others, and he likes to self plagiarize a lot. Listen to Pilatus Mountain of Dragons.
I adore this piece and have for 20 years, but it still blows my mind that there wasn't some kind of plagiarism suit from David Arnold, because parts of this piece are unabashedly stolen from the Independence Day OST 🤣🤣🤣 The greats always borrow!
God, I wish my school band was good enough to play this again. All the seniors left and now there's very few people who actually care about music as I do....

Everytime I listen to this I bawl thinking about high school band and all the good memories.
We played this in high school. I was 2nd chair clarinet and was so scared the 1st chair kid would somehow be absent and I'd have to play the solo😂
This is me rn
Oooo the solo is so beautiful and this sounds a lot like my band. The 1rst clarinet is a 12th grader but he was absent a few classes recently.
I also play clarinet and i started last year. I’m in high school 8th grade (secondary 2) and I’m in two bands this year the one with 7th and 8th grades and the big band in my school. Playing flute on this wasnt easy but it was my favorite song we ever did, and that solo was definitely worth it
Yea, my friend is one of the only flutes and she hates being one of the only ones

3:40 is amazing.... its a real good flute solo... I am in percussion but it amazes me EVERY time I hear this in band (we are playing this)
This is absolute brilliance! I love how cinematic it sounds, especially at the beginning with the French Horn. The 7/8 time is just so amazing and that flute solo? Wow!
I remember playing this my sophomore year. Had the first clarinet solo I ever played in band
Im playing this song in Washington High School for the concert festival coming up next week! This song is so beautiful i love it im playing the flute as well!
学生の時、楽器を始めて3ヶ月ほどで演奏した思い入れのある曲です

Oh yea, I am not a percussionist but it's really interesting to hear about that. We have 3 percussionists so I'd assume you can imagine how that goes.
I played this for a kent state wind ensemble I'm in back in November. I wish I could play that concert for the first time again because it was one of the best things I've ever done.
Thank you for posting this!
I played this in my Concert Band in High School and have always loved it.
We played this, Air for Band, Toccata for Band, and Anticideum in high school.
ALL COUNTY 2k16❤️❤️❤️❤️ still remember this, it was a pain in the ass but worth it

Playing this in band. :D
Played snare in this, the speed was pretty challenging but overall this is a really fun piece
Me too!! It was very fast, but felt it really added to the momentum...
I am playing 1st trumpet part for this and those high notes are really hard to reach! This song is amazing though!
I was 2nd trumpet, agreed! But it's such a fun song!
懐かしい…初めてのコンクールでやった。
Yay music!
As am I. I'm performing it tomorrow night :O
PICCOLO SOLO BEETCHES

My school's Band Director is going to make us play this. We have 16 people in our band. Let's see how that turns out...
As long as you also only have 1 person in each section
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
theres no way this hasnt been used in some sort of movie
1:13 reminds me of Zelda, when opening a treasure chest.
6:15 Independence Day (1996)
@GlamisTown22 it is!
4:00 is the besttttt part
im more of a 3:99 fan

@GlamisTown22 thanjkk you wouldnt it make a great drum corps show?
Uhh why are there 1701 cousins that seems like a lot don't you think 😅😅

@krittles1441 Hey btw, this song has been published sinced1886. I have the music right in front of me.
I played it and it's hard playing the high notes with a trumpet

Nice, what instrument?
My School got the rights to use it to be a marching band song
Could the flute soloist please just gasp a little louder
You try playing the flute for this piece
