      The big ship in the background at the start (the leviathan) is a Titan class ship. When someone lights a beacon called a cyno, only large capital ships can jump to them unless a titan creates a bridge which allows small ships to jump to that cyno. Titan pilots screw up sometimes and jump to the cyno instead of creating a bridge and this is what happened here. This was meant to be a small skirmish but the titan accidentally jumped to the beacon so the attacking group wanted to destroy it while the other wanted to protect it. The titan jumps out at 3:24 and escapes but both parties had already committed a large amount of ships into the battle and what ensued is a massive battle that was never intended to take place.

    That music... What a perfect way to compose the transition to full scale battle.

  • @Kiljaedenas
    @Kiljaedenas 10 лет назад +68

    A little something for you non-Eve players to get a sense of scale of the size of this fight...that green ship that looks a bit like a tuning fork in the middle of the screen that the camera is following (the ship of the player who recorded this video) is called a Megathron, a 1017 meter long Battleship. That's over 300 meters longer than the NCC-1701-E Sovereign class Enterprise from the later Star Trek movies. For Battlestar Galactica fans of the newer series, the Galactica is roughly 400 meters longer (so less than 50%). And now compare it to how big some of those ships are that he's flying past. That big grey one, the Leviathan, at the beginning that they try and fail to catch is over 18 kilometers long. That's about the same as six standard Borg Cubes stacked side by side to each other in a line.

    • @HellsRaven4444
      @HellsRaven4444 10 лет назад +2

      Actually the Leviathan is around 15 kilometres, not 18. That's more the Avatar Titan. Still pretty damn big though

    • @Kiljaedenas
      @Kiljaedenas 10 лет назад +6

      Sorry, but you're wrong. Go into the game, then the Market, then the ship preview image/model. It says the length there. The Leviathan is a bit over 18 km, the Avatar is a bit over 13 km. There are also various other size comparison videos/charts kicking around that verify what I said.

    • @HellsRaven4444
      @HellsRaven4444 10 лет назад +2

      Kiljaedenas Oh whoops, I actually looked at the mass volume instead of the actual length in the wiki. Also I don't the game. Sorry about that.

    • @d.sherman8563
      @d.sherman8563 7 лет назад +4

      Kiljaedenas The camera battleship is actually a vindicator. I was part of the corp you hear comms of during opening (Wolfsbrigade) . Standard fleet was 1-2 vindicator, 1-2 bhaalgorn, guardians, rest apocalypse navy issue.
      Went for balsy fights most of the time (heavily outnumbered), always had a pantheon carrier group + dreads on standby for escalation and a batphone to Pandemic Legion incase shit really hit the fan (like this) .
      Everyone was required to have a carrier with most lineships in the ship bay, could get fleet to anywhere in eve within a few minutes by getting into carrier, following cynoing chain to system near fight and changing ship to one you had with you. Had added bonus of having plenty of reships close by and being able to eject a HIC and change ship in space incase you dropped onto a super.

    I don't even play EVE, but that look epic as fuck

    • @Lungomono
      @Lungomono 10 лет назад +43

      It was. One person fuck-up triggered one of the largest battles seen in EVE. The result of the battle had a huge impact on alliances and the political world of of the game for some time, due to the amount of ships and resources lost.
      What you need to know about EVE, is that the entire economy is player driven, e.i. close to every ship and all their modules are made and sold by players, and when lost it combat, are lost for good. Along side that, then is the wast majority of the game world player controlled, e.i. Corporations (player guilds) hold the systems, where the resources and production facilities are located etc.
      So an alliance loosing the a large part of their fleet, special capital and super capital, means they cant wage war and hold their systems. Individual Corporations would then shift from one alliance to an other, taking their resources with them (ships, equipment, pilots).
      EVE is very complicated but also epic as fuck, because of that. These giant things have a seriously impact on the meta game and they all have a meaning. This is also why I love to stay partly in touch with events in the game, even years after I stopped playing it. It just produces epic and cool stories.

      gipro1 Yup, you're pretty much right.
      Jump Drives allow jumps without using stargates, between systems within a certain range.
      Jump Bridge Drives allow Titans to create a jump bridge between two systems, so that a sub-capital (aka Battleships and below) fleet can move without using stargates.

    • @Bobamelius
      @Bobamelius  10 лет назад +26

      Heavy interdictors (and regular interdictors) are cruiser and destroyer class ships, respectively. Those are the third and second smallest player controllable ships in the game and they actually play the most important role in battles like this because they keep the enemy fleet locked down and unable to warp/jump away.
      Other subcaps can be important in the capacity of destroying said interdiction ships, but aside from that they don't have the damage output to really put a dent in a large group of supercapitals on this scale.
      Almost all battles in EVE are way smaller scale than this though and subcaps pretty much do everything in those.

    • @nogitsune4452
      @nogitsune4452 10 лет назад

      Hmm... Anyone know any good videos with some good small to medium scale PvP where frigates to battlecruisers actually have a legit role? Guess I'm just asking for proof that small specialized ships can actually be part of respectably sizable PvP operations, and not just something to laugh at and shoot down.

    • @eastie87
      @eastie87 10 лет назад +4

      Nogitsune Clearing enemy HIC's is a legit role. Look at the overview and warp scramble notifications. There is everything from fights between frigs to support like ABC's and Bombers contributing to DPS on dreads. Recons and HACs that are trying to clear subcap dps and HICs to guardians repping sub caps like the vindi this vid was shot from.
      This fight is primarily a DPS race against caps, but each side has its support fleets that are duking it out in their own little fights.

      The "Leviathan" that is mentioned over and over in the beggining of video is a titan-class ship (the biggest and most powerful in a game, think of a Death Star analogy and tripple it) that triggered an incident by accidently jumping into a hostile system instead of setting a bridge for a fleet (most of the systems in-game are player-controlled regions, it was just like if suddenly an armada of Russian nuclear submarines just parked near the U.S shore. In a middle of a Cold War). And then the escalation begun, they started to send reinforcements to aid that Titan that fucked up and is now under heavy attack (the loss of a ship in EVE is permanent, and Titans usually take months to years to build), the Leviathan eventually escapes but the things are already in motion and hostiles are sending their own Titans and capitals with huge subcapital support, of course opposing coalition do the same, plus a lot of "neutral" corporations that hold grudge to both of the sides are joining the battle too, hoping for the chance of payback. The whole thing lasted for several hours, welcome to EVE.

      TheExtremeGamer1712 People loose years of progress on daily basis in EVE, there is a reason it is considered to have the most thrilling PvP among MMOs. The Asakai incident wasnt even one of the biggest instances of warfare in EVE, it is just famous for it's background of human error that caused it. You should really give it a try, just be patient with it's learning curve, once you get past it, the game can be very rewarding. Also with few exceptions like mentioned capital ships, death penalties an average player will face are harsh compared to other mmos yes, but not so devastating it would ruin the experience, most of the ships are designed to be very expendable, there is also no such thing as best ship or "ship progression" like getting better gear in other MMOs, every ship class has it's place and is useful in it's own way, so it is totally possible to enjoy the game and be useful compared to more experienced players being a complete rookie, flying basic, cheap frigate or so.

      TheExtremeGamer1712 The mere mechanic that you CAN lose all of that is what makes it one of the best PvP games there is. Who cares about dying if you can just respawn with everything you lost. The risk is what makes people fight for their own, rather than blindly running around hoping to kill someone.

    • @NonciclopediaForEver
      @NonciclopediaForEver 11 лет назад +2

      Very often, as far as numbers go.
      We've had about a dozen 2000+ engagements last month.
      Capital/Supercapital engagements of this size are a bit more rare (such ships are strategic assets, committing them is very dangerous), but we've had four or five of these in November.
      Titans die very often, at least one a week, usually.

      В субботу 26 января 2013 года развернулась еще одна эпическая битва с участием 3161 кораблей между блоками CFC и HBC в системе Asakai. Как утверждают игроки в своих блогах, к этому сражению привела ошибка пилота корабля класса «Титан» из блока CFC, который, вместо того, чтобы обеспечить флоту союзников телепортацию в собственную систему, армейским способом произвел проёб своего титана во вражеское пространство. Пару раз протерев глаза от нежданно свалившейся на них почти халявы (титаны не могут использовать свой главный калибр в лоусеке) местные разводящие («Test Alliance Please Ignore») сыграли КТА своему альянсу и заорали «Памагите, лохогопота на титане прикатила!» всём дружественным, или хотя бы не врагам. После минут ступора, осознаваниия ситуёвины, сборов, на веселье начали подтягиватся желающие, спешно пересев на пригодные к разбору титанов посудины, а то и на чём попало. На удивление быстро собрали кучу дрендоутов, организовали поток генераторов бубла. Флитком(ы?) проявили недюжинные способности к организации сброда, в очередной раз подтвердив прописную истину - лучше организованное войско влегкую пиздит лучше оснащённое.
      У ClusterFuck же, (коалиция, в котором состоял пилот промахнувшегося по кнопке титана) случилось помрачение сознания - из-за квакнувшей на всю галактику жабы - «ПТИСЬКУ ТИТАНА ЖАЛКО!!!» Сгоряча для начала созвали на подмогу другие титаны (с, опять же, невозможностью их полноценного использования.), но присоединили к ним слишком мало вспомогательных капиталов-субкапиталов. В общем, первый титан разобрали ещё до подхода, собственно подкреплений.
      Итог - 222 корабля уничтожено. Для HoneyBadgersCoalition потери составили 6 Дредноутов, 11 Карриеров и один Суперкарриер. Для Clusterfuck все обернулось хуже - 4 Дредноута, 29 Карриеров, 5 Суперкарриеров и три Титана. Битву при Asakai называют полным разгромом.
      В бабле это составляет 700 миллиардов игровой валюты или 24 тыс. неиллюзорных долларов. Правда, 50% или около того покроет страховка кораблей (60% стоимости кораблей минус те суицидники, которые не страховались) - с учётом того, что стоимость фита страховкой не охватывается. Просрали пол Форд Фокуса!. Другой вопрос, что пока заводы и фабрики накочегарят новых игровых вундервафель будет потеряно много времени и парочка систем.

    The reason why the Battle of Asakai stands out so much to me is because of how quickly things can get fucked up. EVE is probably the most open-sandboxey sandbox there is, as the economy, the majority of the space and the fights are all player driven, player co-ordinated, player made. The toughest of decisions to just jump bridging your fleet incorrectly can make a massive impact in this game within a matter of minutes, as the Battle of Asakai shows.

    a jump bridge is a structure linked to another jump bridge that forms a player-made stargate of sorts between star systems. A Titan bridge is a temporary jump route opened between a Titan and a target cynosural field (what you hear people yelling for early in the vid) - also between star systems. (This is what the Titan that derped failed to open). A warp is a ship-initiated folding of space that moves you quickly within the star system you're already in.
