Can the $599 M4 Mac mini HANDLE Logic Pro at 32 Samples?!

- You asked if the $599 M4 Mac mini could handle processor heavy soft-synths like East West Composer Cloud at 32 samples, AND you wanted to see the Performance Meter during the recording, mixing and mastering process. This video highlights all of that and more.
I wrote and recorded an original song from scratch on the M4 Mac mini (and even created a little workstation for it) just to showcase it's abilities when recording in Logic Pro.

Guitar was sounding more natural to me before the fx I understand it might not cut through the mix but anything natural now a days is gem to my ears XD Great video.keep up the good work
Thanks for doing these - probably the most useful demos I’ve watched (and I’ve watched a LOT).
Great track too, nice groove 👌
Awesome, thank you! 🙏
I used all cores by going into Logic settings and select all 10 cores. Then you can see all cores or most cores running depending what is routed where ever.... Click on Logic CPU meter and it will show 10 cores. I also tested on auto core but then it only give you four cores. Just set it to 10 cores and you will see!
Thanks for the video! Absolutely amazing what this little computer can do.
Your vidéo is the best about Mac mini m4 basé for someone who do music wonder what to buy
Glad it was helpful! 🤘
I bought a 4tb M1 pro MacBook pro a couple years ago partially because of Composer Cloud. The upcharge for storage was criminal, but I wanted to keep all the sample libraries on-device. Worked great! No doubt it will be awesome on m4!
I’m guessing you got that error message because it was still reloading plugins after changing the buffer size, it probably took a few seconds
This I gotta know, thanks for the making this video❤
Whatˋs the name of the thunderbolts display again ?
It’s the Apple Thunderbolt Display from 2011
Thanx👍🐺🙋🏻♂️🍀
Not a lot of real world tests of Logic Pro with the base M4 Mac Mini. Thank you. I assume your Logic library is on the external drive IOW all the samples etc are being pulled straight off the drive?
Correct, and thanks for watching!
I am trying to get my Universal Audio Apollo Twin working with my new M4 Mac mini. I was able to install some UA system files but now I can't even launch the UA software installer so i am totally stuck. Anybody have any suggestions?
Very strong maschine good price
Yes, it’s a great price/performance machine!
Nice, Thanks!
I'm coming from an iMac. What screen do you use? I'm sure the M4 will be great but the screen.
Apple Thunder bolt display (2011)
Thanks!
Great video. What dongle are you using for port expansion?
I’m using the Thunderbolt Display for my usb A ports. That’s connected to the mini via the Thunderbolt 2 to Thunderbolt 3 dongle from Apple
What audio interface are you using?
Behringer 4 channel
did you try set processing threads at max setting instead of automatic? It has been reported Logic does not fully use E-cores but wondering what difference could make between those 2 setting when you try to max out resources. you'll see all the 10 cores present in the performance meter window and can check if the "max" setting can mitigate and or better distribute cpu peaks avoiding playback errors
nice video and nice song 😎
Very great vidéo !
Do you think to be futur proof it’s better to go with 24 ram and 512 gb ?
I have bought base model, it is impresive, I have Logic sound on Samsung t7 and all native instruments .
Thanks Îm a new subcriber
If you can afford it, I always recommend getting more specs
@ thanks
Get more RAM if you can, 24GB at least if you plan to do intensive work. Storage can be upgraded easily with external SSD, but not the RAM.
Thanks
Hi, great video. Being a singer/songwriter type, I record live vocals, guitar, bass, etc. Do you have any latency issues recording live acoustically??
None in this project
What ikea desk do you have ?
www.ikea.com/us/en/p/micke-desk-white-90214308/
My question here is for vocal? I mean a complete song in this machine is possible? And I was confused whether i have to go for 16gb ram 512 storage or 24gig ram 256 storage?
I didn’t have any issues with vocals on the track (I didn’t include it in the video because they weren’t finalized).
@arkoverload I was confused whether I have to go for 16gig ram 512 storage or 24gig ram 256 storage. Kindly suggest me.
@arkoverload kindly release the final song and breakdown the full tutorial
Go for the 24GB ram 256GB storage one. RAM cannot be upgraded after the purchase, but an external SSD can be upgraded and are much cheaper than Apple's internal SSD upgrades.
Great cook up
Glad you enjoyed it!
How is the dell optiplex 7020 for protools and Cubase?
Or is this m4 better?
I use 5-6 tracks usually. Apple is pricey!
32/1tb is $1500!
Thanks
Good music👍🎶
Don’t bother with a new computer then. 5-6 tracks? Whatever system you are running, I am sure you’re doing well and could probably do twice the track count with what you have.
Too bad Logic ONLY uses the p-cores. Other DAWs like Cubase, Reaper and even Pro Tools ALSO use the e-cores. So one can get more channels and more processing on those DAWs. Logic, of course, will get better performance on an M4 Pro.
Before Apple bought Logic from Emagic, it had the ability to use networked Macs as extra CPU power for running plug-ins. They nixed that feature for good. This suggests they don't WANT to make the best use of available resources, they want you to buy a more expensive Mac and that view has continued. The first Mac sequencer I used after having an Atari STe till the late 90s was MicroLogic. I didn't like the interface and settled on Pro Tools with Reason via Rewire eventually instead.
@@barkmonsterthere’s third party networking that is audio focused, so eat a bag of diqs Apple!
I always buy 2nd hand anyway.
I read in another video that Logic doesn’t use e-cores because it’s already efficient.
For most electronic composers out there the mac min m4 base will do just fine regardless of the DAW. Save your money buying the base plus extra RAM and use the spare cash to get more plugins.
@ you buy plugins? Jk, I do as well… Mostly…
If you are bouncing/freezing tracks as needed, then it’s fine. It will last as long as your ingenuity to sidestep system limits.
I want to see it running 70-100 tracks, each running a separate Spitfire (or equivalent) orchestral vst patch, with 10 additional audio tracks. Each track running a surround sound placement, appropriate compressors, split down into stems with mastering plugins and convolution reverb.
Stop dreaming and be true, this is an entry level Mac. In a real escenario not that madness that you propuse u need a fully specs Mac!
@joseivanmartireyes4646 using only a couple of VSTs from East West is a pointless exercise- Obviously the mini mac would run a few vsts. I want to see how far the unit can be pushed before it breaks. That's how to do a proper bench test and show the limitations which is essential for an informed purchase.
70+ tracks broken down into stems is a very realistic ask when composing orchestral pieces.
@@jammypockets606Pro-Tip. Serious orchestral composers need to budget more than $600 for their computing hardware. Spend the least possible and you are guaranteed to be disappointed if you need the very high performance of the ridiculous scenario you proposed. But you knew that already, right? Just another hater that can’t believe you can reliably record for $600 for ten years with no problems?? Right?? #PCSucks
@@videditorEB1 🤣🤣 cope harder.
@@jammypockets606 Lol. Cope with what?? Awesome computers?? I don’t think you know what that word means. 🤣 I have no coping issues, sorry. I’ve had nothing but trouble free recording ever since I switched to 100% Apple computers. Zero problems, even my old 2013 MacBook runs perfectly. You know anybody recording on a 12 year old PC? 5 years old?? 2?? lol. Have a great day fighting virus issues brother, there’s an update on the way , I Promise!! 😂🤣😂
The one thing I hate is when uu get that system error because all the cpu is being used that’s like the most annoying thing ever
wonder if an actual thunderbolt enclosure would solve the issue and bring it back to 32.
🤷♂️
@@arkoverload I use Orico and Trebleet enclosures for working disks. Since I use mostly Ableton with a little logic I haven't run into any issues. My current issues are more AVB related. Good video though.
nice video, exactly what i wanted to see, great music by the way!
also you should test it at 96000 hz... cheers
Yeah, 96k will definitely push it more but for $599 you can’t complain lol, I paid over 4 grand for my M3 Max MacBook Pro 🤷🏽♂️
Apple is gonna go big on Mac OS in 2025 and beyond. The iPhone and iPad market is already saturated but with only a 10-12% OS marketshare worldwide, there is plenty of room for Apple in the PC space. If Apple can double that in 3-5 years, that's ungodly of billions of dollars in their pocket. Consider that their base-level offering can accomplish pro-level work for under 600 bucks. The entry cost barrier for aspiring Artists and Engineers is dropping every year. The Video/Photo/Audio creative community doesn't need convincing....but I foresee a lot of switchers when the next gen of "budget" Apple Silicon finally crushes 3D modeling/rendering and AAA gaming.
It's incredibly impressive for an entry level system as it is. I currently have a 12-core 3.46Ghz 2012 Mac Pro, a 2.6Ghz i7 2012 Mac mini and a 2.8Ghz i7 2017 15" MacBook Pro and just the base M4 has 4 times the single-core of the 2.8Ghz i7 (which is my fastest single-core system) and over 3 times the multi-core performance of the 3.46Ghz Mac Pro while beating the GPU performance of the 8GB RX-580 I have in the Mac Pro and having Raytracing.
This is a great video- However are you familiar with Dorico notation? That's what I use to compose. I guess that would be a traditional way to compose with ideas directly into a notation program. I don't really use DAW's. Would the base model Mac Mini 16Gb 10 core CPU/GPU be sufficient?
More than sufficient.
I love your music do you have a voice on it and found a top Line I have a lot of ideas
I do! Just didn’t finalize it in time for this video
It's L & R not LAND-R. Great video test.
It is?! Haha I had no idea. Thank you for watching!
@@arkoverload I was calling it the same then someone said its L&R and I was like oh makes sense hahaha but honestly Landr sounds cooler. Keep creating magic bro!
I just checked in their official RUclips channel dnd they call it LANDER. Not L&R.
Layer 5 electric guitar track
m2 same
Running plying a live is NOT efficient at all for recording. It’s lazy and does not allow you to use your creative mind. We all do it because we’re lazy. Commit to tape that’s how all the top albums were made with 24 or 48 track studios and none of our live plugin recordings come close to those albums. In a live environment you will use a dedicated synth or MainStage/ableton computer for your live synths so your computer will have plenty of headroom for effects. Why we put ourselves through these nonsensical tests is beyond me. No criticism of this video, just a general observation. Happy New Year.
