    I think you explained your toy breeding program perfectly, and through your years of experience and expertise are producing exactly what people expect (and want) when purchasing a pup from “SVCC …CUTE AND CUDDLY” Schnauzers….small, sweet, intelligent, loving, companion pups who travel well.
    Your explanation could not have been more succinct, reasonable, or respectful.❤

    Great video Shawn, thank you!
    I understand that « toy » schnauzer are referring as a smaller size and I can also see on the results from « Google » search that « toy schnauzers » are coming up a lot.
    For now, your business is based on those terms « toy » and « miniature » sizes… and the explanations are clear.
    Life changes…one wise soul (her 102 years old aunt)once told my mother-in-law who was scared of taking the plane ✈️… that she needed to « modernize»…
    I don’t want to spark a debate, but you can’t please everyone and people need to adapt to changes as you are adapting to the needs of those people in the society who wants a smaller dog. This is exactly what you are doing. I admire that you open your home/dog training and your life to us. Being true to oneself is what works. Thank you again, Shawn! I would love to have one of your toy schnauzers one day since they are smaller than the « regular » definition of miniature size.
    Have a wonderful day! ☕️

    We are close to needing a groom so I will definitely be looking at your teddy bear groomed dogs. My husband doesn’t like the traditional cut (especially the long beard). I’m sure we can agree on something. We are in our mid 50s and this is his first puppy (2nd marriages) and I’m thrilled he is so interested in our little girl.

    I got a “mini” schnauzer puppy a few weeks ago and can’t wait to see how big she’ll get. Truthfully I’m hoping she’ll be smaller than a mini. Thank you for your explanation! If she is smaller than a mini I likely will refer to her as a toy schnauzer ❤

    Shawn you did an excellent job explaining the difference between Schnauzer sizes. Obviously if a dog is under 12 inches its not a Miniature Schnauzer according to standards, however in my opinion there is nothing wrong with calling them Toy Schnauzers. It doesn't seem to be a big deal to me what you call the under 12" size. You could call them what you wanted since the under 12" are technically not miniature Schnauzers. Toy, Baby doll, Tiny Schnauzers all would be names to identify the under 12" Schnauzers.

    • @svccschnauzers
      @svccschnauzers  Год назад +1

      Yes! And in ALL dog breeds there are dogs that do not meet the show standards that the AKC deems representative of the breed and those dogs are still referred to as being that breed. THANK YOU!

    • @organicgal7751
      @organicgal7751 Год назад +1

      I also wanted to add that calling an under 12 inch dog would be dishonest if someone was looking for a standard size miniature Schnauzer so they need to have a different name reference such as Toy Schnauzer😃

      Great explanation! I’ve been away from the breed for quite some time but after your explanation I realize that I had one “ standard” salt and pepper and when I went looking for my next Schnauzer I bought a “toy” for just the reason you described: cuddly lap dog. I also remember that I was attracted to what I called a more “cobby” or boxie shaped dog. The gait or “ trot” is so darn cute! After the two Schnauzers I got ( white) Westies and today have a ( black turning salt and pepper) Cairn. All three related breeds!!

    Once upon a time, I suspect there was only one size of Poodle. Today, those might be called Standard Poodles. But since then, breeding has changed the breed to include Miniature, Toy & Teacup sizes. Shawn, I have no problem with your smaller dogs/pups being called Toy Schnauzers even if they are registered at Miniatures. As long as a buyer doesn't think they are getting a Miniature that will absolutely meet the breed standard so they can show the dog, I don't see a problem. I'm thinking the world and the AKC will catch up with you one of these days, and it may not take that long for us to have four sizes of Schnauzers, too.

    I’m told by my breeder that Josie will be on the smaller side - 8-10 lbs. We will see. She is growing every day @ 3 months and is pushing 6 lbs. I would love for her to be on the smaller side. She is also parti and I love her coat and markings! I had two salt and pepper years ago and I was thrilled to find a dog with this coloring.

    Your dogs are adorable but in many ways they do not meet the AKC standard. Size and colors are not acceptable to AKC fir this breed either. You could call them Miniature Schnauzers that do not meet AKC standards, as long as you don't mislead buyers or charge the kinds of fees for your dogs that a showable dog would cost. To repeat, they are simply adorable dogs and I, for one, would never show any dog. I want my dogs for companionship and I train them for companionship. My last doggy friend was an AKC registered Miniature Schnauzer, but her conformation was far from standard. But she was oversized. She was temperamentally a Miniature Schnauzer and trained to a high standard. I loved her to death. Her breeder was upfront about her conformation, and her price matched. She was a salt and pepper dog with one erect ear and one folded ear. I groomed her with the traditional cut. Altogether a poor example of the breed but the most loving girl ever. I'd never breed her because her traits were so nonstandard. You could call your dogs pet quality, genetically pure Miniature Schnauzers that were unshowable due to color and/or conformation.
