this musical NEEDS to be rewritten. it has so much potential and it could be so good
I feel like this is Wildhorn’s answer to every girl who wanted a female equivalent of his male villain songs. And I am thankful it exists.

The mad hatter is more popular than Alice in this musical and, practically, everywhere.
Guinevere Dommeck I think it’s cause most people portray Alice as a victim of her circumstance, w/out personality.. and the personality is all provided by the side characters
I'm obsessed with Kate Shindle. She is such an amazing actress/singer and all around performer. I know her from playing Vivienne Kenzington in Legally Blonde, (which is one of my all time fav musicals btw) so as soon as I saw this, I was amazed yet again, by her powerhouse voice. She's a real talent. The way the Mad Hatter is portrayed kind of reminds me of a super crazed, and totally more intensified Vivienne. Either way, she's great in this.

I want her to play roles like Elphaba in Wicked, Elsa in Frozen, Carrie in Carrie.... She has the perfect voice for these characters!
Man, she could've had SUCH a great backstory! I always imagined that she was Alice's worst fear for Chloe, or maybe that she was Chloe's childhood, which Alice and her father took away from her, so young.
There was so much potential I agree. I wish she had more of a storyline in the musical honestly
Dramatic Irony I agree. This musical had a ton of potential, the music was great, but the storyline was very bad.
she was meant to be the Darkness inside of Alice, "I come alive when you're afraid", also she mentions that "two pieces may not occupy the same space at the same time" remember this is mirroring what is happening in her "normal" life with her husband (jack) leaving her and her Daughter etc.. the story is pretty much an internal struggle
I even would've been fine with that, but they broke the biggest rule in writing 101: Show don't tell. Sure, they used some clever foreshadowing, but it all just built up her Mad Hatter just flat out saying, "I'm your alter ego." Much build up to a rather anticlimactic climax.

Great song, but WHO STAGED this?! Not enough movement, lighting could have done much more for the power of the song, there was a missed opportunity for GREAT choreography, the song was broken up with too many spoken interjections. It completely takes away from the magic this song could have done. Someone do this song and Kate Shindle some justice!
She really makes the whole evil villain thing look good.
No matter how bad this musical turned out to be, the music in my opinion I loved and the cast I thought were brilliant. I just wish this would have turned out so much better

5:24- end is one of the most brilliant moments I've seen in theater. Especially the white knight's line about cowards and the valiant.
Evil defying gravity
I’ve been listening to this song a ton since discovering this musical 3 days ago, but wow seeing the visual kind of ruined how epic I thought it was. The plot seems really lacking. I’m just gonna forget I saw this and continue to enjoy the music.

Too many dialogue interjections. Let the song stand on its own. Frank is a better story teller than any book writer he has ever worked with.
Except Nan Knighton with Pimpernel. Her book with Pimpernel 2.0 is pretty much perfect
Wonderland. It closed after, like, a month. It's quite a good show, actually, too bad people see "Frank Wildhorn", and determine to hate it:(

I know, but the slight rephrasing kept it fresh for a modern audience and still contained all the power and added a little in my opinion!
Wonderland was always one of those shows that could have worked. In a lot of ways it feels like knock off wicked. But also it's very OUATy and not in a good way. The plot needs help and so does the book. But the songs are pretty decent.

A mix is when a singer is able to place notes between head and chest voice. It's healthier in the upper registers than full chest voice, and fuller than pure head voice.
You know those wild gospel notes that ring the heavens? Those are usually somewhere in the mix range.....
For a mezzo the mix is usually between C5-G5 depending on the singer. VERY FEW go above that. Kate Shindle does.
For tenors the mix is usually G4-C5.

I love her voice - but she's always just slightly behind the beat. She needs to put her consonants in FRONT of the beat and her vowels ON the beat. She's got an amazing voice.
There's no denying her singing ability, except for those weird shrieking things she adds to the end of a third of her notes, but she's just so...*awkward*....
those "weird shrieking noises" aren't really shrieking and they are very much intentional it's a very popular flair that many actors like to add to their notes and I kinda agree but it's not her fault this musical just doesn't have a lot of movement
its not shrieking.... its called vibrato, do you even know anything about singing technique?
I'm not talking about her vibrato -- and yes, I do know the difference. The "flair" that sushi mentions would explain it, but it's just not to my personal taste. No need to be rude.
