I just realized, Agatha just Ghosted Death! I was trying to think of how the name of the show makes sense if it was actually Billy all along. Then I realized: Agatha is now an immortal ghost since she technically fulfilled her part of her bargain with Death. This means Death has to leave her alone. She also has her powers back. So she got what she wanted plus immortality.
The Ballad of the Witches' Road starting out as Nicki's song then turning into Agatha's scam anthem before being manifested into an actual adventure by Billy was a great reveal
Actual good use of Chekov's Gun. Too many people tend to think it's an OBVIOUS thing in the background mentioned to use in act 3. But good writers will lay clues for the reveal to be the only logical conclusion. Like the Red Wedding in GOT. The more you think about it, the more you realize the only ending for Robb was in the ground. The more you think about this, the only ending was for Billy to be the one to create the road.
Nicky’s song with his mother> Agatha used to bait other witches to their death> Lorna used to protect her daughter > Billy making it real to save Tommy. Agatha seems to be the only one to use it for nefarious purposes, which is sad from the origin of the song with her son.
I kinda feel like killing all the witches was her way of keeping death busy / at bay. And the night they didn't kill any, Death finally had time to collect Nicky.
This is what I've been saying. Death wants bodies and throughout the series tells Agatha this directly. Agatha was killing to keep Death sated so she wouldn't take Nick. Once Nick stopped helping trick witches with Agatha he began to grow sicker and sicker before succumbing.
So what about her mom saying she was born evil? How young was she when she started taking powers, when did she meet Rio? Who's Nicky's Dad? When did she get the darkhold? I have so many more questions lol
@kimberlyjeanne9456 That's her mom being hyperbolic, I'm sure. She wasn't a baby witch, stealing powers. In fact, if her mom knew she could absorb magic then I'm sure she wouldn't have used hers on Agatha. It was probably a new development, along with her getting the Darkhold. The father is a mystery, though! It could have also just been some random dude she hooked up with, lol.
Yeah and it makes sense why she was so hell bent on it being “coven two” because she made the song and knows the lyrics by heart which hence the argument in the first place
It also explains how, when they asked Agatha how many witches survived the Road before, she said one. If you consider her and Nick's journey as her first walk of the Road (having created the song while walking it), she is the sole survivor.
Was coming here to say same thing. It adds so much more weight to Agatha's POV saying "No, Its coven TWO" when they were arguing over the lyrics. NOt only does she actually know as co-creator of the song, but she knows who the two are.
This show solidified Jac Schaefer S one of the MCU’s best storytellers imo. Between this show and WandaVision, I love how protagonist-driven these narratives are. *Nothing* happens in these stories that isn’t the direct result of the lead character’s flaws and psychology. I love that between Billy and Agatha we have a character clinging onto life for life’s sake, who sees life as the ultimate good, and a character running away from death not because she really wants to live, she just wants to die *less.*
I think Melanie's right. I think Agatha's early power grabs were initially to keep Nicky alive, but then it became more sinister and selfish after she lost him. I think Rio would have continued to give them more time together as long as Agatha kept giving her bodies. Agatha says she can't cure Nicky's illness or divine when Death will come for him but, for me, it was clear that Agatha continually killing witches was keeping Death at bay. In the pub scene, we see Nicky is VERY ill, so they probably hadn't killed any witches in a while, but he consciously chose not to lure those witches to their deaths. As a result, both he and Agatha ran out of time. Later that night, I think Nicky telling Agatha, "We can kill more witches tomorrow, I promise" is more proof of this idea. I think he realized they had to keep killing witches to avoid his death, but he made it clear he didn't like doing it. Looking back on Agatha's trial, when we hear Nicky's voice say, "Mama, stop," I think it's a reasonable interpretation that Nicky hoped his death would make his mother stop killing witches (because it was no longer necessary to keep him alive). Unfortunately, it had the opposite effect.
Just to say something curious: Ghost Agatha is something very common in the comics, she normally appears as her astral form to help other magic users. Also the Witches’s Road is real in the comics, here they do something very original.
The Road might just be real from now on, just like Tommy and Billy continued to exist after having been manifested. It's the same kind of magic in both cases.
When the trailers first premiered, I thought they might be doing a version of the Winding Way, the magical path/discipline that empowers Margali Szardos, Nightcrawler's adopted mother and Amanda Sefton's mother.
@@TheLibrarianOG1 unlike the westview hex, billy did not destroy his creation, so yes, I would agree with that. From a scam to the real creation...ugh its so good.
@@jimidando i mean, unless we are meant to take him sealing the door off as him also destroying the road/making it not exist anymore? which is very likely.
This was such a beautiful ending to this show. The final episode recontextualizes the entire ballad and the journey on the road in such a perfect way, and I respect the show so much for executing properly and even attempting to go this route at all. Congratulations to the amazing Agatha All Along team on making such an incredible show! 👏🏽🔮✨️ Making TV is incredibly hard, and they managed to pull it off excellently!
Melanie has it right about Nicholas in some regard. It wasn't about power, it was about bodies. Agatha was killing off witches and giving the bodies to Death and so Death was staving off his illness and death. It wasn't a surprise that baby Nick was crying, Agatha killed the witches, and baby Nick was okay. Or that they kept saying how hungry or ill he looked and they kept killing more. It wasn't until Nick didn't want to kill anymore and stopped following the ploys Agatha set up that his death couldn't be held back anymore. Once the bodies stopped coming in, Nick was going downhill and eventually succumbed. But when his death happened, Agatha had little reason to stop feeding on others and getting stronger. She filled the void in her with power and kept killing.
I loved the concept that the idea of the Witches road was Agatha’s and Nicholas’ all along, whereas the physical creation of it was Billy’s. Jak did a great job on the whole show! Very enjoyable watch!
18:00 I took that line as, she much prefers people thinking of her as evil and a mother that would sell her own child for the darkhold rather than the truth which was that she wasn’t able to protect her son. The guilt Agatha is living with would make her agree with all the rumors that “she’s a bad mother”, a “monster”, “sold her own son for power”, etc. because in a way she wasn’t able to keep her son from Death and so she believes them.
For me, I interpreted Agatha saying why she doesn't tell the truth about Nicky being "worse" was less a comment about the morality of any actions she took but moreso that the truth is more painful than a lie hence it being "worse."
This series was absolutely fantastic and a joy to watch. The cast and crew really put their all into this project and it shows. I’m excited for more of Billy, Agatha, and maybe Death or Jen in the future, plus we’re getting Tommy and the Young Avengers sometime plus Wanda coming back🥳. Jac Schaeffer did an amazing job on Wandavision and now AAA, Marvel really needs to keep her on the payroll and put her on other projects because she does a great job. I’m glad with this ending and the setup for finding Tommy but I wish we got a scene of Billy telling the Kaplans that their son passed and what was going on, but maybe a latter date.
The fact that Agatha would have had a stillbirth if it wasn’t for Agatha and Death’s deal is a level of dark story elements I’m surprised to see Marvel/Disney doing. It’s sad but a reality some unfortunately have to face. AAA real did some masterful storytelling and had elements that relate to the audience so well. I’m also impressed with how flushed out the characters were and the story they told.
I have NEVER seen a tv show go the route of having what really truly felt like the season finale and actually be setup for the real finale. I was so nervous that it would fumble the ending after having such an amazing previous episode, but damnit it stuck the landing. Especially with showing Agatha’s heartbreaking origin story with her son. Which is even more heartbreaking when you learn that she and her son bonded by traveling and singing on the road. I do hope that however we continue Agatha and Billy’s story (whether it’s a season 2 or the plot of Vision Quest or some other show). Because I want to see more of these characters.
The Ballad of the Witches Road was a song created by Nicholas Scratch that Agatha used as a con. It was never real. It was only real and manifested after waking, created in parts of William Kaplan‘s personality. Agatha uses the myths and legends surrounding the road to lure and take which is powers throughout the centuries
I still hate that Lillia, Alice and even Sharon died and weren’t somehow saved in the end, and I hate that Billy was indirectly responsible for their deaths, but I do love that he memorialized them and will from now on do his best to never repeat his mistakes and end up like Wanda. Still he managed to save Jennifer Kale and help get her power back.
I think she was distracting death by making bodies for death to collect instead of Nicky. Like how Rio accuses her of distracting her from Billie by the deaths of Sharon, Alice, and Lilia.
I watch everything from Marvel so I wasnt gonna miss this one, but I went in fully expecting this not to be exactly my type of show. This show was amazing, and they can say Marvel gave them the least amount of money out of all their projects and mean it as a compliment of their success
It still fits agatha all along, billy make the witches road true and real but who created the witches road story? It was AGATHA ALL ALONG right? She was the creator of it not billy. Billy only made it real but the story still came from agatha and his son. From a scam to reality.
Marvel released a new trailer going over "what's next for marvel" specifically the shows and their release dates for the next year or so. Would def give it a watch
I wanted to know more about Agatha and Rio, like, how did they meet? how did she acquire the Darkhold? besides that, i loved it, i've read "the witches road" so I kinda knew this was coming Joe and Kathyn nailed it, I hope this is not the last time we see them together. If there is a Wiccan show and a Scarlet Witch movie coming, they need to be there
Agatha obtained the darkhold to gain her magic sucking powers, so perhaps, desiring power, she received it from Lady Death in exchange for the promise of her future child's life? But then, by the time she had been betrayed by her mother's coven and carried the child to term, she seems to have changed her mind. It's implied that Death followed Agatha, possibly causing most of the death that occurred around her, and much like the other witches this season, she was expunged from having any lasting relationships and it caused her grief, but it also caused her to put up walls to protect herself.
Death zapping is actually something mentioned in the first episode. Rio says "So take my power." and Agatha responds with "That’s cute. But you know that would kill me."
So Agatha killed witches everyday to keep death busy. That's why she loved her and gave her time and that 1 night she didn't provide she came to collect.🙆♂️🔥Damn Agatha😂❤
Marvel released a 2 minute sizzle reel covering their 2025 Disney+ slate, including Daredevil: Born Again. The crew should probably check that one out.
I think you're right, Eric. "THE Green Witch" (As Jen confirmed, a capital G.) "The Scarlet Witch" Pretty sure Wanda and Rio are both supposed to be on a level above regular witches.
In the end, everyone got what they were missing... Alice, her purpose. Lilia her coven. Jen, access to her power. Billy, his brother. Agatha, being free from Río ... Well... Sharon was not a witch, so... 😢
i believe the tell she is referring to is the shape , wandas hex was the same shape as the door. does that mean other witches have different shapes, when it comes to magic. AND Agatha saying she cant face Nicky, i think she knows she is the reason for her sons death Agatha steals witches power, she unintentionally was draining her own Childs power in the womb and that's why he died in her. and I believe Rio felt bad for her in this situation because this never truly happed to anyone like this before so she let Agatha have time with him.
No, i think the reason why agatha kills witches was to exchange those life to extend his sons life. Its like a bargain even though it is not stated clearly in this episode. But the night that they didnt killed any witches the boy died. Agatha only absorbs energy/powers from other person only works when they attack or hit agatha with their powers. Agatha cant steal someones energy or power on her own. 😂
From my understanding the truth is worse is that Agatha killing witches to give Nicky more time, that's the deal with Death, as long as she got boddies Nicky gets to live. You can see everytime after Agatha killed Nicky get slightly more colour in his face and the one night they refuse to kill , that's the night Death took him.
One of my biggest complaints in the past about marvel was that they spoon feed us every explanation but im so glad they didnt do that with this show They let us pick up details on our own without the need to over explain They did leave some stuff unanswered but the ending shows this wont be the last of agatha and billy Also love comic accurate agatha
Did anyone else notice that Rio( death) was present during the death of everyone from the coven except for Lilia?🤔So she was there when Sharon died, she was there and even guided Ally to the other side, but she wasn’t there when Lilia and salems 7 died. So… I see your games marvel. You’re keeping them for the future season or something😂 I’m desperate and I’m manifesting😢
So Lorna Wu recorded 'The Ballad of The Witches Road' and got all her fans to sing it in the hopes of opening The Witches Road to save her daughter from the curse not knowing it was all a lie.😭
By far the best Marvel show. Wandavision’s first 6 episodes are the greatest though but that ending was just atrocious. This show and these characters were phenomenal. Let’s go lesbians!
the directors went with a game of thrones kind of finale . with episode 8 being teh big battle and episode 9 sort of like a reveal. and i think that the worst thing she refers to is that she couldnt protect him from death
Yeah. Let’s etch the names of three missing persons, one who lives across the street, into the basement of a house that just had a weird event the neighborhood witnessed. That won’t start an investigation at all.
I believe Agatha feels guilty for not being... good? She's very bent on convincing Billy that he's not inherently bad just because of what his power can do, because that's how she's always felt. I feel like she can't face Nicky because she feels ashamed of being the way she is. Nicky is a pure soul and she turned all that was good in him into something evil to others. His existence became a way to lure witches to death. The song that they created together, full of love, became another weapon to kill witches. He's a pure and good soul in her eyes and she feels like she's the opposite, an evil that has to be seen as evil and bad just because it's what she's always been told about herself. She can't face him. Too scared of facing his pure heart and messing things up again. Plus, the rumor about the Darkhold makes her seem heartless, soulless and evil to other witches, which makes it easier for them to not empathize with her and vice-versa. Why pity witches that turn on you and hate you? Who would never believe in you truly? The more distance she puts between herself and others, the easier it is to kill them later on and continue playing the role of the evil witch that she's always played so well
I’m so glad the finale pretty much answered all the questions. But I still got one thing unanswered. What’s the backstory between Agatha and Rio? How and where did they meet? Why exactly did Rio take Nicholas?
Rio took him because he was never going to live long, but she made an exception for Agatha and gave him more time. He really should have died as a baby. But Agatha never knew how long he'd have, however the boy was sick pretty much from the beginning and was only living on borrowed time, which is why one of the witches even commented on how unwell he looked as a kid. He was always sickly. Some people think because Agatha didn't kill witches the night of his death that that's when Rio came since she wasn't distracted by the bodies left in Agatha's wake. Either way, death was always right on his door step, it was just a matter of time.
@ woooow. Thank you so much!!! Now I totally get it. I kinda thought that Death only takes by will I guess. I didn’t put together that she can actually postpone the death🙃🤦🏻♂️
@@eternityriley1833 waittt. That’s what Agatha meant by saying to him : I kill them to survive. She’s not only doing this for herself but for him too because she was distracting Rio with those dead bodies😨
@@TheNameIsViwares Yeah, that's what some people's theory is. To me, I can see that, but idk if it's 100% true. But it makes sense. By her saying that specifically, I always felt like it was a matter of, in her mind, "kill or be killed". Because of the nature of her powers, witches would likely see her as a threat and would try to kill her like her original coven did. So, she kills witches in order to prevent them from attacking her. So, it could also mean that.
@ yeah, I totally get that. But why she would be afraid of being killed though? Cause she takes your power if you attack her. So, basically, she can’t be killed by them. Honestly, my theory was that she kills to prolong her life kinda like Fiona Goode did in AHS coven. It’s kinda like her only food I guess. So she came up with that narrative “kill or be killed” or I don’t know. Sorry, just a thought I had
Thanos might fall in love with Death, but it would be unrequited. Her concern is the natural order, and his pursuit to instantly remove half of the population could be considered to be quite unnatural.
I think its more nefarious and true to character that Agatha killed those other witches for herself. Like death said she can give her time with Nicky, she never had to sacrifice anyone for him cause him being alive was her gift. Thats why she said the truth is actually more awful. She used he innocent boy to lure other witches because she was greedy for power. She thought that power could protect Nicky and her. But all that travelling, the nomadic life and rhe sheer stress of killing innocent witches was most likely what took Nicky and deep down Agatha knows this. If she was oart of a coven Nicky had a better chance of living longer. But due to her greed for power nicky didnt have a chance.
Lol you didnt get the point, the only thing that prolonged nickis life was the life of those witches they killed. They may not stated clearly that agatha needs to offer witches life to give more time to his son but it is stated with billy, death, agatha scene on episode 8 where billy said that is this how your son nicki died? Death needs a life in exchange of one souls to be saved. Just like agatha giving her life to save billy so that death wouldnt come and would have interest to him anymore
It doesn't make sense tho when Agatha said she's gonna kill them in the basement on day one coz if she's planning to kill them why she reveal to lilia her secret on power grab? Jen has no power so why she still invited her, when Alice refuses to join she just let her leave

Too long to wait 😫
I do like the whole "It was Billy all along" thing actually. It somehow makes perfect sense to me.
I wanted to know more about Agatha and Rio, like, how did they meet? how did she acquire the Darkhold? besides that, i loved it, i've read "the witches road" so I kinda knew this was coming
Joe and Kathyn nailed it, I hope this is not the last time we see them together.
Bill Maximof is Joe Locke... he is so good, the other show he did is "Heartstopper". Also a great show, you should totally watch it :D
Death zapping is actually something mentioned in the first episode.
Rio says "So take my power." and Agatha responds with "That’s cute. But you know that would kill me."
Thank you for back to back uploads on AGATHA!!!!!
I love that they did not try to make Agatha a missunderstood but good at heart character. In the end, she IS bad, but you can see her motivations
Yeah, the kid who plays Billy, Joe Locke, this is only his 2nd screen project. So it makes sense you haven't seen him in anything else yet ❤
Thank you! I was like, Ep 8 and 9 were back to back and Blind Wave crew is gonna make us wait? hahahaha
I believe thanos would fall in love with her
Me: shit … I’m in love with her
Makes sense why she said coven’s two in episode 4 because she was thinking when her and her son were making the song
The new Rockstar breakdown of his room gave me a hint the road had some connections to him.
William "Billy" Kaplan is Wiccan, who is also the Demiurge.
Jan survived asnd walked the road. She's now going into the world of witches to tell them it *is* real, cos she did it.
Wandavision -> Dr. Strange MOM -> Agatha All along -> Vision Quest - The Scarlett witch Movie.
Maybe we can find tommy in vision Quest.
Agatha killing witches too keep rio busy that’s why she killed alice to keep her busy from billy
🎉 such an intense show
Joe locke hadn't been in anything until heart stopper, and moved on to Agatha all along and stared on Broadway in Sweeney Todd
7:00 actually, Lilia stopped Alice from attacking Agatha before the gardening lady spotted the door.
i believe the tell she is referring to is the shape , wandas hex was the same shape as the door. does that mean other witches have different shapes, when it comes to magic.
But it wasn't the same shape. Wanda's hex was a hexagon, therefore the name, 6 corners. The door to the witches' road was a pentagon, 5 corners.
I hope they eventually react to the marvel look ahead thing for the different disney + series. I got so hyped for 2025 and 2026 because of it
One of my biggest complaints in the past about marvel was that they spoon feed us every explanation but im so glad they didnt do that with this show
They let us pick up details on our own without the need to over explain
They did leave some stuff unanswered but the ending shows this wont be the last of agatha and billy
Also love comic accurate agatha
not gonna lie I thought I was gonna get Alice back. I really wanted her for future adventures just like we’re gonna get kale for future adventures.
She kept killing Witches so that DEATH won't take Nikkey.
Heartstopper is the only other show Joe Locke has been in. You should give it a watch some time.
Do you think that she will still be the governess of Franklin Richards when the fantastic four is introduced?
The more distance she puts between herself and others, the easier it is to kill them later on and continue playing the role of the evil witch that she's always played so well
Note 10 I really want the continuation of this story, I want to see Wiccan altering reality 🔥🔥
Mrs Davis? Hahah Agatha 👻👻👻👻👻🔥🔥🔥🔥🔮🔮🔮🔮
She told Lilia her secret about not blasting her 7:33
I was waiting patiently for this (no, i wasn't)
Under 10 minutes squad check in.
YASSSSSSS!!!!
So does Lorna Wu owe Agatha royalties for the ballad?
Now I want to know when and where the hell did Agatha get the Darkhold since she didn't get it from sacrificing Nicholas
I don’t know, I think Star-Lord would have a thing for Death 😏
fyi jennifer call is johnny blaze(ghost riders) first cousin
Are you guys gonna cover the sizzle real marvel dropped yesterday?
Season 2 now pls
It doesn't make sense tho when Agatha said she's gonna kill them in the basement on day one coz if she's planning to kill them why she reveal to lilia her secret on power grab? Jen has no power so why she still invited her, when Alice refuses to join she just let her leave
I wonder if Billy made the road “real” in perpetuity
Did he just seal off the gateway or did he obliterate the whole road? I think it's the latter.
this show had no right being so... great.
It was billy all along
Agatha could not save Nicholas from Death, no matter how much power she could acquire.
Don’t know why it took me so long, but Agatha is just a Woobuffet 🤔
Great show and great reaction. React to the new Marvel trailer please
I’m so happy they are finally done and can move on 🎉
If I get the $12 on blind wave, do I have to have my own video to sync up? Also does that apply for Patreon as well?
