Emma was a goddess. Coming from such poor background, learning Italian, rubbing elbows with the Toff. Thank you for doing this vid! She has been my idol for years.
I learned a lot today about Lady Emma Hamilton, and also her daughter Horatia. I read a book about her, when I was a teenager, and learned that there is nothing romantic about the good old days, that people keep talking about, through rose tinted glasses. Thank you again.
@anandmorris3780 , unfortunately, I read the book many years ago when I was a teenager. It is most likely out of print by now. And I can't remember what the title was or who the author was. I hope you understand. Thank you 😊
Thank you Jon for the story of Emma, she is one of my favourite characters from history, she was indeed Beautiful vibrant and kindly heart, History looks on her now more kindly, a sad end for such a beautiful lady.
Wonderful video so interesting never really looked up info on her life so fascinating I've only ever watched my favorite actress of all time Vivian Leigh in That Hamilton Woman after this I'm going to go watch it again. Thanks for your wonderful channel. I'm half English and half American and love English history so very much thank you 🇬🇧🇺🇸❤️🌹
Jon, wonderful video!! Thanks to Vivien Leigh and Lawrence Olivier in "That Hamilton Woman" I heard the over romanticized version of this story. Nevertheless, always loved their story. Thank you so much.
@@teresaklarlham984 Lord Nelson had a fever and Fanny Nesbit nursed him back to health and out of gratitude he married her. Nelson only fell in love for the first time when he met Lady Hamilton. At least they are together in heaven now.
The Nelson Mass was actually an oratorio written by Haydn both Nelson and Hamilton attended the premeire of the Mass and Emma Hamilton would sing some of Haydn’s songs with the composer on the fortepiano.
A very sad story, how men of power (inherited rather than earned) groom young girls with the promise of devotion, just to strip them of their knickers and self worth. Once used, the girls are discarded, treated as an inconvenience and left with nothing. Weinstene and Epstine show this story plays out even today, same script, same characters and same ending; a cautionary tale all girls should be told to prevent their own victimisation.
I don't know why the still bothers me but it does that men could get away with sleeping around while women were made to feel like horrible people and made to feel like we don't something extraordinarily wrong
Poor Emma, she deserved more than being treated and used like that. Nelson was a great hero and she was an extraordinary woman that's why he fell in love with her. She didn't deserve such tragic end. 😢
It was back in the 1990's before the internet that I saw a late night movie listed in the t.v. guide called That Hamilton Woman. I thought, cool, I'm a Hamilton. Imagine my surprise of learning we share the name. Hopefully we will not share the same fate. 🤞
Vivian Leigh played her in the movie That Hamilton Woman. There is much commentary on Megan Markle as a social climber in Britian. I'm like she's not the first, she won't be the last. Look up Emma Hamilton.
Interesting that you referred to Meghan Markle as a social climber, when for years it was Kate Middleton who was called a social climber. She and Pippa were even referred to as wisteria sisters.
Lady Hamilton, died in Calais in 1815 age 49 she died penny less. She only received a headstone in 1997. If only Lord Nelson hadn't been killed at Trafalgar, they both could have had a happy life together. RIP.

You're very welcome Fiona, thank you 😊
Fascinating story. I read that she had a kind heart and cared about animals.

@@HistoryRoadshow Thank you as always Jon.
Very interesting story. Thanks so much. Beauty doesn’t always guarantee you a happy life. I always think of Princess Diana.
So true Jane, thanks as always 😊

Glad you enjoyed it Winfred, thanks as always 😊
What a remarkable story with such a sad ending... it is a shame that she wasn't taken care of the way she should have been after his death...
Glad you enjoyed it Teresa thank you 😊

Never heard of her before. She had an interesting life, but a sad end. Loved your illustrations as always. Thank you 😊
Thanks Anita, always appreciated 😊

It was certainly an extraordinary time, but I'm definitely of your opinion. Thanks Vic 😊

Backgrounds are either free, my own or paid for. Thanks Cheryl 😊
@@HistoryRoadshow thanks Jon! You must have an awesome personal library and art gallery!
I believe the wonderful Vivien Leigh played her in the black and white movie, Lady Hamilton. 🎥

"That's why the lady is a tramp," sing it Frank. Sporting type of chap, first lover abandoned her pregnant.
I am certainly no white Knight feminist, but my goodness us men can sometimes be absolute bastards!
