She's a Freshman at UCONN where they have no Seniors and 7 Freshman. She's has the most assists and points for the #1 team in the nation. She is currently shooting 57% from the floor and 54% from 3. She just received the Big East Outstanding Player of The Tournament winning the Big East championship. This week, she was named ESPN Freshman or the Year and Player of the Year for all of NCAA. I think her game has transitioned nicely from high school to college.
Paige was as high as 54% from 3 late in the season but did have a bit of a slump from 3pt for the last 4 games of the regular season but got her shot back in the BE tournament. I think she is at 47% from 3 at present. But numbers do not tell the full story. As you say, she is leading such a young team and is on a trajectory that will most likely leas to the fist NPOY for a freshman
Paige is a Freshman yes. She still does this at college, if you watch more of her highlights, just not as frequently because they have her play a bit more structured. (Which is kinda the issue with College imo, especially on the women's game, they take the creativity out of player's games)
Yes all the time she really was shifty in high school I guess you can catch glimpses of her in college like this but I totally understand thanks for your comment
It's not that they take the creativity out of the players' games, it's just that college defenders are a lot better in iso than high school defenders, so a team like UConn almost always has better offensive options.
Yeah, she is a freshman. No seniors on the UCONN team this season. The girl on her UCONN team with the Laker color braids and the other guard #10 that you saw on the other video are both freshman also. Paige's best friend is a high school senior this year and recently announced that she is committing to UCONN as well. Paige is like the only hyped freshman (male or female) I have seen in years who has the coach telling her all the time (even during games) you have to shoot more. She comes around a screen and looks to dish. He wants her to look to shoot more. She averaging like 21 a game this year I think. They had 2 of their better scoring starters out for a couple games and he told Paige she needed to give them more offense and she had 30 or better 3 games in a row. She also set the UConn record for assists in a game this year with 14. Girl can do it all. High schools always lie about players height and weight. They have her as 5'11" with UConn this season, and somewhere on YT there is a video of her doing an interview/shoot around thing, and she dunked. Looking forward to watching her get better and better. Stay safe and well.
on SLAM's youtube channel, there is a series called All Eyes On Us that follows Paige and her high school team throughout her senior year. you guys should react to it if you want to see more of Paige in high school.
And I would say to also see her USA basketball videos (especially the gold medal U19 against Australia) to see how she leads a team at the highest level at the highest pressure. MVP beating out college players on the team
If you guys are having trouble choosing between Zia Cooke and Paige Bueckers, replay the UConn/SC game and see how often Paige abused Zia on both ends. Zia was so lost on Paige's back cuts, it was criminal. The only guards you can maybe compare Paige to is Caitlin Clark of Iowa and Dana Evans from Louisville but then looking at the efficiency stats and win shares (offense and defense), Paige should clean up most of the NPOY awards.
Agreed, although Clark’s rep is based almost exclusively on high volume shooting stats. Her offensive versatility is very limited and defensively it’s not even a conversation ( Paige #1 in defensive win shares, Caitlin #3029). Clark is a solid player, but not in Paige’s league.
Yeah me personally I feel like Paige game is overall better then zia but one ? It’s really some amazing females hooper I gotta react to all of them please drop links which video YALL would like to see thank y’all for the comment ✊🏽✊🏽
@@cbrend22 I would disagree that Clark is just a solid player. She is probably in the top 10 in the country and she is actually quite versatile on offense. Her 3pt shot range is ridiculous and she can work the mid range and is an excellent driver who gets to the line often. Where she is limited is in her decision making taking quick and often very hard shots quickly although she is technically a good passer and has a good rapport with her talented center Czinano And I agree she is really challenged on the defensive end but I think alot of that is the lack of intensity the whole team has defensively. Of course, Paige is in a class by herself but it takes a fan who watches her play all the time to really appreciate it . The glitz and pizazz she showed in HS has been replaced by one of the most fundamental players I have ever seen which should not be a surprise since she played that way for USA basketball when the stakes were really high and she was MVP of the U19
@@superdude10023 i agree Clark has great range, but I haven’t seen any mid range in college. If you look at her shot chart, 90% are spot up 3’s between the elbows and shots at the right side of the rim. She doesn’t shoot 3’s off the bounce or dribble or when she’s covered. She just backs up, which is where her range helps. She always drives right and almost never pulls up for a J and almost all her dishes are to to a big down low off a drive. She puts up big numbers because she handles the ball all the time and shoots more than anyone in the league. She’s good, but there are at least 30-40 girls who could put up numbers like that if they had a 39% usage and put the ball up 23-24 times a game. She can’t create her own shot that well and can’t create mid range on the way to the hoop because of her lack of quickness and low release point on her shot. That’s going to be too easy to defend by better teams and certainly in the WNBA, and her D is a huge problem. She’s a good player, but from what I’ve seen, she might be close to top ten offensively, but her D drops her way down overall, it’s literally half the game and she’s 3029 in D win shares and and 2917 in defensive player rating. Her overall win shares rank her about 20, but that doesn’t discount for inefficiency( turnovers, missed shots, etc). Her overall offensive player rating, which accounts for all of that, is 151. Combined with her defensive challenges, I can’t possibly see her as a top ten player. She gets accolades by people who simply look at her scoring avg, which is a very elementary ( and inaccurate) way of judging a player. Do you know who leads the NCAA men in scoring? Max Abmas. Clark is great comp with Houston version of Harden, all threes for the top and drives to his strong side, lost off the ball, shoot first and second mentality, and total defensive liability. Paige is unique, like Lebron on his beat shooting days when he’s feeling clutch, or more like Kobe who passes like Magic.
Look into Azzi Fudd an upcoming freshman to UConn and Paige Bueckers best friend. Also Hailey Van Lith. These are dope girls. One more #13 from UConn is Christyn Williams also a #1 recruit from high school.
Christyn Williams has had a harder time jumping to the top of College Basketball but over the last Big East Tournament, is finally showing elite Defense and Offense together. Geno has said if she continues to play at her recent level, UConn is a Championship team. And when Azzi comes (Best womens 3pt shooter documented all over the internet) to town, just mail us the trophies.
I am surprised by that. Her game is not really like Kyrie's who is a take over shot maker while Paige is pass first . After seeign both James Harden and Kyrie on the Nets this season, Paige is so much closer in style to Harden who is probably the most brilliant playmaker in the league with remarkable vision and off the chart BB IQ.
@@superdude10023 harden just became a playmaker this year. Paige is more like a LeBron who can shoot, as she’s a great leader and superior defender( unlike Harden). Maybe more like Kobe who can pass better, as she has a more diverse offensive game than LeBron and is more clutch, or a pistol Pete who plays better D. Her handles and finishing package around the rim ( spins off the glass, etc.) are what she has said she models after Kyrie.
If you watch her development through high school you see her teammates get better. They are very motivated to practice more, and especially move without the ball. In her senior year Taylor Woodson was the one she could depend on near the basket. Taylor was almost always open. And a Freshman, at that. Why? Because Taylor knew she would get more passes and get more layups. Now comes UCONN. And much better teammates and opponents. Paige's game has to change to account for that. In HS she was the best player on the court. But in college she is just another great player. This is what LaBron never experienced. In HS he was by far the best on the court, and could score anytime. Not so in the NBA. Took him 8 years to get that figured out, with a lot of whining in those 8 years. Paige doesn't complain. She only compliments her teammates. If you think She was good in HS, what until she us in her senior year at UCONN...
Look, I am a WNBA fan but the college recruiting class that'll be coming out over the next 5-10 years, they're gonna be a problem. I love Bird, Taursi and Delle Donne but they have some serious contenders coming up are.gonna smoke them.
