    Brilliant video. I remember Perth being just like that. Passenger and freight all mixed up. Order amongst the chaos. All the major fast freight mixed passenger trains departed from Perth main station. The Albany Progress, Kalgoorlie Express, Meekatharra passenger and the Geraldton passenger all left from there. All the “big wheel”, as they were know, all rated 50 mph and bogie only mixed freight/passenger. Oh, I forgot, the Astralind left from there also. Thanks for the memories again.

    Looks like the Mitchell Fwy is still being built. Crazy to see how big perth is now compared to then

    It looks like the video is at least after 1967, possibly 1969. For some more info for you.
    Source: Couple of buildings in the video i know one opened Dec '67 and the other is partly built opened in 1969

    At 3:10 the middle bottom track.
    Why was the metal rail setup in such a way that a train going in the wrong direction would de-rail?

      It's called a catch point. It's a single blade point designed to safely derail vehicles so they don't accidentally enter the mainline.
