Dang thats a rough bike. An upgrade you can probably get is a Shimano Mega drive or whatever its called, its a cassette replacement that expands your climbing gearing by giving you a larger rear cog for steeper climbs. Other than that, I dont think theres anything else you can upgrade along the way, theres replacement parts that exist, but they wont be any higher quality than what you've got. I'd look for a Trek Roscoe or equivalent hardtail with a tapered headtube, 1x drive crank and 11 or 12 speed cassette for a way better climbing experience, also internal routing for dropper post is a must. Marin San Quentin is another nice hardtail, and I mention hardtails because at the sub 1k price point those should be the only bikes your looking at, they will most likely have boost size wheels, tapered head tubes for fork upgrades, 130mm or so forks standard, dropper posts, 1x drive, hydraulic disc brakes (uses fluid instead of wire cable) and preferably tubeless ready rims so you can setup tubeless down the road.
Its great you getting out there and trying, but you'll find pretty quickly that a super budget off brand bike will actually become dangerous pretty quickly even riding off curbs to learn drops, the quality is still just not there on alot of offbrand stuff. Have fun, and dont get hurt.

Thank you for the tips. An upgrade is in my near future for sure.

@@EVT85 Heck yeah dude, look at a hardtail with Tapered head tube, 65 or under head tube angle, 1x drivetrain, tubeless ready rims, hydraulic disc brakes, and a dropper or at least cable routing for an internal dropper and your set, that could be a lifer bike, and if you want full suspension in the future when your riding double blacks and high speed downhill then look at that, or if you have sciatica or other nerve issues or back problems than a full suspension would be better for you but costs alot more, probably 2500 at the absolute lowest end of the spectrum.
