Anyone remember 8mm films? Before VHS, DVD & blu-rays, there were 8mm films and K-Mart was the place to buy them! My folks bought me and my sister a couple of them. Monster flicks (for myself) and a Warner Brothers cartoon (for my sister). How I miss K-Mart and their 8mm films!
Kmart - and Blue Light Specials! That seems so funny now. Our old Kmart building has been going thru a remodeling and a Hobby Lobby is moving in soon. And, in my neighboring state, The old Kmart building has recently been remodeled, and a Royal King store is moving in. Am I remembering correctly - they had snack bars inside? And I'm thinking they sold popcorn?
Over here in Southwest Detroit and metro Detroit West and Downriver, like Dearborn,Lincoln Park,Taylor, Allen Park SS Kresge stores were around for awhile.
Before the beginning of time, who didn't shop at K-Mart, I also Recall, GC Murphy's, TG&Y I remember them, Zayres my mom liked, Kresge's I used to buy model car kits, Topps, that was another one, & finally Woolco, the Zayres in Des Plaines, & the K-Mart in Arlington Heights, as I remember, you could eat at the snack shop, plus the K-Mart in Thornton Colorado, yes I recall them having Little Caesars pizza, when you used to get 2 pizzas for one price
Kmart,SS Kresge,Cunningham,Woolworth etc etc etc were a much better store in design, interior speaking than the present day Walmart, they all had signs telling you what depts you were in, well designed friendly not overly lighted ailes nice paneled floors and shelves and those wooden tubs and of course they all had nice friendly small type 50s 60s style Diners inside where the food was well made by mostly older women 45 and over in age , black and white and dressed in their waitress uniform and their Hamburgers,Sandwiches,Sloppy Joes tasted really terrific. Thats also the time I got hooked on Sloppy Joes and French Fries!!!! That was also the time when everything was made in the USA
You are correct my friend. I remember that Kmart has a different "vibe" when you walked in compared to Walmart. Walmart seems cold. Also, Kmart had a distinct smell when you walked in as well. Thanks for sharing those nice memories.
My great aunt Judy worked as a waitress in one of the k mart restaurants. She taught my mom how to make a couple of things just like they did in that restaurant.
We had a Sports Authority at Fairlane Mall in Dearborn and a Builders Square use to be where the Home Depot is now next to Southfield Freeway and across Walmart where it once was a Kmart , on Ford Rd just East of Southfield Freeway! We use to like going to Builders Square, friendly and helpful workers employees and they had alot of full shelves and neat, exact opposite at the Home Depot that took its spot. We find it better shopping in Toledo, better city better state !
Great job! You are very thorough and detailed. How do you find the old commercials? Really, you deserve many more subscribers. People love this throw back. RUclips needs to boost your position too for more viewers. Can you do Zodey's ? Or Zody's, it was like KMart in the 70"s. Thank you Eric C.
thank you for watching and I appreciate your support. Hope you subscribed, more videos are coming soon. And about Zody's, you are in luck: ruclips.net/video/xAgrVnKArkw/видео.html Tell your friends about my channel. Thanks again.
I was just thinking of Furr's Cafeteria!! The earlier you went the older the crowd. lol! Corona had the one in the parking lot of Kmart. Oh and Kmart in Corona also had the great white shark in the big rig trailer
Yes that was on Ford Rd just a block west of Middlebelt, they tore it down last year late fall, the First Kmart, what an embarrassment, metro Detroit and Michigan doesn,t like to conserve historic buildings, its not like that in Ohio or Toledo . Had been to an estatesale a few blocks from there about 3 years before and got alot of vintage 60s and 70s Kmart Employee things like name badge uniform employee brochures new old stock items never opened christmas decorations etc etc etc
Well you did leave out did they actually ended up selling off the Kresge five and dime stores they didn't hold on to those! They sold those Kresge stores actually back in the 60s they did not hang on to them! The company entirely divested itself of the five and dime stores approximately 2 to 3 years after the Kmart concept took off!
They're decline was not because of the internet one iota you see they and many other retailers by the late 90s operated websites where they could sell to you direct so they are part of the internet to blame the internet is blaming themselves.... Furthermore most of their decline actually started in the mid to late seventies they had paid a high dividend on stocks which is wonderful if you're a shareholder but it actually sucks when it comes to cash flow for the company then by the late seventies started the series of massive embezzlement by the top management they were hit with that in the late '70s and again a couple of times in the '80s etc... Of course one of the major problems if not the root cause problem for them walking into the 80s extremely unprepared was simply they didn't want to put money back into their business so they failed to invest in the computer systems necessary to officially run logistics otherwise known as shipping and receiving whereas Walmart and many other competitors did invest in that Walmart basically had nothing to do with the demise of Kmart that is a bullshit story and so is the internet that's for idiots who know nothing about business... Kmart among many other retailers killed themselves!

Loved Kmart! The one in Anaheim closed down a few years back. We use to go in, get some popcorn and a soda then shop for whatever we needed. 👏🏻
