Wow, I’m a bit staggered, TBH - a few months ago James made a joke about someone from some weird place like Kentucky winning it. Guess what? Yup, my family hails from coal country in eastern Kentucky! Eastern KY has creeks and hollers, no canals, although i have spent most of my life near rivers. I couldn’t watch the live stream as it was midday here in the US and as I’ve been loading and hauling gear for an event I volunteer at for radio communications, site safety, and conflict de-escalation several states away (short trip for me, only 7 hours away). I’ve emailed James back and as soon as I’m back on reliable internet and near a real computer we’ll start getting things sorted. I guess “watch this space”? My biggest hope is that James had enough tickets sold that everything is golden for Project 58/Cerium and he’s good to go in the future. I’ve watched since the earliest days, just haven’t commented much because being in the US I haven’t had much useful to add to the conversations. I’m sure that’ll have to change now! My wife and I were over for a Covid-deferred Narrowboat two-week holiday in May and took our multi-day helmsman’s courses in the first few days, so that’ll all get out to good use. We’d already been planning the next trip, so I guess something will be different than we thought! Thanks to everyone for the well wishes, and again, I’m very much hoping James has come out well in the end.

When the winner was announced, I thought your name sounded familiar, and of course here you are, the guy from Kentucky! You sound like such a good person, as is James. As a few others have commented, I really had the feeling I was going to win Sloe Patrol, to the point where I was beginning to worry about logistics, since I live in Oregon. Also want to tell you that you've more than repaid the few quid I contributed to Sloe's cladding - I've learned so much through watching your work on the boats, have been entertained and heart-warmed. I too was sat with crossed fingers, but sadly not to be, but u got to be in it for a chance to win it...
