I disagree, but I'll respect that lol. It certainly wasn't a bad game, but it has led to the downward spiral of Fire Emblem that followed it, trying to bask in Awakening's glory once more.
Not to say they've all been duds. Echoes was S-tier, and Three Houses was pretty good. But Engage and Fates? Yikes.

There was a time when people used “Awakening babies” to whoever played this game as first FE game such as myself.
It’s insane to think that was a decade ago. Also to spite them I played every single FE to feel validated or whatever.
I'm glad you played the games prior to the one you started with. I suspect that was part of the reason people used that terminology. To encourage the babies to stand up and explore the exciting world that is this series.

GBA games have that unique charm not to mention the animations.

I started with Fates and probably would have gotten too into FE a lot sooner if I knew about it. Never really saw any ads for it. But I happened to see the Fates one and it looked pretty cool. My second game was Echoes I liked that one a lot more.
I started with FE blazing blade but theres nothing wrong if fates was your first FE
People hate on fates but fates is an amazing entry for newcomers
Game looks great, has really nice mechanics, good art style, and it can be pretty challenging on higher difficulties
In fact overall id say is a better entry game for necomerd than awakening was even if awakening was the better game.
Also fates on higher difficulties was still fair unlike awakening on lunatic

Fates was fun and had gameplay but the story was really hard to enjoy. The it's not really incest romance and the entirety of revelations route killed it for me personally

If you have a 3ds those games are actually pretty easy to find at reasonable prices right now at ~$40. And with the eshop closing soon they will probably only go up from there. Definitely give them a go if you can.
Path of Radiance had something special back in 2005. The world it opened was pretty big
Hell yea I remember picking up Path of Radiance on a curious whim. That game still did the best lore/world building out of any entry the story was amazing
I'll admit, despite the flaws and the stories (all routes), I have a soft spot for Fates, of course being my first FE (I choose Birthright), but in general for making me interested in Fire Emblem. Which lead me to playing Awakening then to Echoes, and emulating a bit of the GBA games and New Mystery of the Emblem as well! Though it's kinda where I stopped, I'm still very much interested in the Fire Emblem franchise nonetheless!
Hell, I'm currently replaying Fates on Citra, but of course, with a bit of my own spin on a few things. Mods just make it more fun!
My hottest take is that most of the FE games are worth playing, and are better than most games. That includes Fates.
@@ImWatchingYou69 I can get behind that. In it's heyday I was a huge fates hater (even though i still enjoyed the game), but conquest has grown to be one of my favorite titles in the series. It's gameplay is so tight and rewarding, and the sandbox in which characters can be customized is just a blast, especially with the skill books and classes you get from path bonuses/dlc. Plus you don't wind up feeling like an unkillable god like in awakening. The amiibo units are also pretty cool.
I like how in the end, it started to not have Incredible memes but other stuff and it was hilarious

I picked up Blazing Sword when I was like 4 or 5 because I thought it was Roy from Melee on the cover. I was kinda close, it turned out to be his dad! Melee got me into my favorite video game series of all time just because it introduced me to Marth and Roy.

Well, call me Pharoah cause I started with Path of Radiance! It spoiled me, cause it's still in the top 3 FEs of all time for me along with Echoes and Blazing Blade!

I unironically started with Gaiden and then played three Houses years later which led me to play all the old games. It’s also funny that a lot of people here are pretty new fans who started with the 3ds FE games.

Mine was the first US release of the one on GBA that was just called Fire Emblem which apparently was the seventh. I found out about it through Nintendo Power. I picked it out for before Christmas but wasn't allowed to play it until then. I remember that I snuck and carefully unwrapped it and beat the whole game before Christmas. Good times.
Sacred stones was my first one. Remember my cousin let me borrow it as kids to play it. Then my sister found both blazing sword and sacred stones. Sacred stones will always have a special place in my heart. But path of radiance is my favorite one that I’ve played through multiple times. Ike is just my favorite character.

The original Fire Emblem Warriors was actually my first game in the series. After that, I moved onto Three Houses, Heroes, Warriors: Three Hopes, and now Engage.

i can confirm i was playing fire emblem shadow dragon with my bros in rome before the german tribes invaded. Good days back then.
I played my first Fire Emblem for the first time in 2005 the first I played was Blazing Blade, followed by Sacred Stones and the then was The Binding Blade.
Around 2009/2010 I played Shadow Dragon and some time later New mystery of the emblem.
In 2012 I played Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn for the first time.
In 2018 I got to play Heroes for a while.
And in 2022 I played Echos, Awakening and Fates for the first time.

I was born in 2002 but my first Fire Emblem was Path of Radiance, because my dad was emulating gamecube on our home PC. That game made me fall in love with the franchise. Although I gotta admit, Three Houses is my honestly favourite one. There is something about characters in FE3H that just makes me love them all. Easily one of my the top 3 favourite games ever.
Which one was it on the GBA where the "protagonist" was a cloaked strategist and Lynne was the protag for the first part of the game? I think it was the game just titled Fire Emblem in the video but I remember it having another title.
Edit: it was called The Blazing Blade and her name was Lyn not Lynne, did I really stop after beating the prologue back then? I remember being 13-14 at the time and spending weeks just beating that part of the game, I should try to get my hands on it again.
You should, the GBA games are generally great and pretty easy to get into and beat. It's worth mentioning though that Blazing Blade was a prequel to Binding Blade (no official release but fan translation exist) if you're interested.

I will never forget that masterpiece of a game
I get that a big reason the games started selling better was BECAUSE Nintendo starting more towards the Anime aesthetic over less fantastical-medieval aesthetic, but I honestly miss the more restrained and realistic tone that we had in the pre-FE Fates games.
Monster Hunter fans could relate to a degree, some miss the gritty and heavy feeling. While some love the wacky atmosphere of the modern games.
Ahhh... Good ol' Sacred Stones. I have mixed feelings towards it, but overall I love the game a good some.
Fire Emblem Shadow Dragon on the DS, another one of the first three games I started with. I'm mostly positive towards this game.

My first was warriors, legit thought that’s how fire emblem games were.
I was 9 years old. My cousin came over for Christmas of 2004 and brought a few games, among them was FE7. There was other family visiting as well, so I had to give up my bedroom. We made a fort in my parents' closet, brought in extension cords, set up a TV and my gamecube w/GB player, and the two of us lived in there for about a week eating cookies and chocolate. Definitely one of the best memories of my childhood.
Loved the series ever since, and I think the modern games are great, but I just keep going back to the old GBA releases. Anyone who hasn't played them should give them a try!

FE3 was the very first one I played back when I was sailing the seven seas and before there was a translation patch. Didnt know what it was or what was going on, so I dropped it very quickly.
FE7 was next, but didn't get invested in it, probably stopped playing half way through.
FE10 was a birthday gift that I absolutely fell in love with. After beating part 1, I learned this was a sequel. Stopped playing to play and beat FE9 and then transferred data and beat 10.

I started with Path of Radiance in 2006 when I was about like 11-12. Hard to believe how much time has passed since this, once hardly known, series went from obscure to getting its big break to being one of Nintendo's top IPs. Been a fan for 16 some years & that flame ain't dying out, even coming from this veteran fan. 🔥

After living through the whole "Awakening Baby" phase of the fandom, being officially considered a series veteran now feels profoundly unsettling.
Awakening in a lot of ways was my first Fire Emblem. I had played the gba and GameCube ones but never owned one until the 3ds.
And Awakening enthralled me in a way that few games have. It became something foundational in the core of what I consider my identity as a gamer and it's something I'll be returning to periodically for the rest of my life as long as my shit still boots up.
Fates was a worthy follow up (that theme song makes me wanna cry fr fr. Both the vocal one and the instrumental on the title screen) but in a lot of ways it was too overwhelming. Three Houses too and that's why they pivoted with Engage. The devs talked about streamlining the franchise for good or bad (haven't bought engage yet but soon for sure.)
My first is 1:33, but I only bought it a few weeks ago. Unless you count my countless hours in SSB Melee.

My first Fire Emblem was Fire Emblem Fates Birthright. But I have a sin to admit, I played on Phoenix. Later on, I played Awakening on Beginner. Since then I know that while Beginner is accepted among the community, Phoenix is baby mode. So I will never do it agian.
