Correction: The KJV does say that Jonah was swallowed by a whale in Matthew 12:40. But almost all other versions say it was a fish.

So it's pretty clear what the New Testament's message about money is... regardless if Timothy's passage is misquoted.

@@fredtayam3638 I think the reason why Jesus takes a hard stance on rich people is because they have the ability to ease the suffering of the world, but they don't. If the world's billionaires got together and decided to deplete their fortunes, leaving them with 500 million, they'd STILL have more money than they could possibly spend and they could fix poverty and starving around the world. But instead, they hoard their fortunes and focus on getting MORE!
I bet in Jesus' eyes, rich people are guilty of many sins on a biblical scale... because they let millions of people die when they could have done something to help them.

I worked at a hair salon once as a receptionist. It was a high-end hair salon, his building had no sign on it and he worked from 9:00 in the morning to 9:30 at night. One of his clients would come to the reception desk and there was a display of costume jewelry for sale and she would take it out and look at it and then she said well I'll just pay for it the next time I come in. This customer said to me God helps those who help themselves. And I thought to myself yeah you're helping yourself to somebody else's property and she was a thief. I told my boss about her taking the jewelry and he said don't worry about it. She was a big real estate person in Raleigh North Carolina and made millions of dollars and she stole rather than pay for that jewelry.
This is a very interesting anecdote and I appreciate you sharing with us. It shows how these tropes and sayings inform our behavior without us knowing they have no biblical bases. Sometimes they are harmless, but sometimes they can be used as a basis for evil or immoral act, as shown in your story. God bless you!

Forgive me asking a question, but let's say that within a Church [notice the Capitalized "C"] Group "A" says it was a fish, while group "B" insists it was a whale . . . and as a result, the Church divides and become two "churches" . . . lower case "C"
As a multilingual person, I am very much aware of the CHALLENGES of translating from one language to another. The word "Bible" if I remember correctly, means "collection of books/writings" which is appropriate, considering back in the days of our Lord Jesus Christ, there was NO actiual "Bible" as we know it today, but a COLLECTION of writings by the Appostles that were shared and passed around the individual "Churches", and they were predominantly in Ancient Greek, but also in Aramaic. To be clear, they wouldn't be in possession of ALL the writings at any given time, because remember, the individual Gospels were not written by the Authoring Appostles all at the same time.
Now, It has recently been pointed out that the *6th Commandment - Thou shalt not kill* has been MISTRANSLATED . . . and should actually read "Thou shalt not murder* which is not quite the same thing . . . For example, killing someone during a battle, say, a WAR, is not considered "Murder", whereas killing someone becasue you want what they possess, or out of anger or jealousy, YEAH that is DEFINITELY murder
I guess what I'm trying to say is . . . splitting hairs in this fashion can only serve ONE PURPOSE and that is to FURTHER DIVIDE AND CONQUER . . . thereby WEAKENING the Flock that the Lord Jesus Christ has ENTRUSTED to us. Not only as "priests" or "ministers" or whatever title you prefer, but as Christians, protecting and watching over our brothers and sisters in Christ.
This is NOT a criticism of the work that you do, by any means, I'm simply saying be mindful of your responsibilies to our Lord God, because regrettably, good intentions are not always enough.

e.g.
if you do a ‘hard day’s work’, is the fruit of your labours a banana? A grape?

Certain parts of the Bible are not meant to be taken literally, but asking God for intelligence will help you understand, to see through the ‘fog’ to understand the figurative.
(That ‘fog’ is designed to keep the hard-hearted / stubborn-willed people away - akin to Christ speaking in parables, as not everyone was worthy to know the things of God).

Actually Matthew 12:40 king James version says Jonah was in the whales belly 3 days.
That was inserted by King James, in the original Greek it says great fish
Just like the King James makes reference to Easter. In the original text, it was called passover!
King James has some errors . That's why they came up with NKJ version .

Here's a question for you: How long was the Chicken, I mean Children of Israel in Egypt? Ex. 12:40 reads 430 years, but in Paul's writings Gal. 3:16-17 we read that from the time the promise was given to Abraham until the giving of the Ten Commandments/covenant was 430 years. Good video. There's lots and lots of other examples as well, plus many examples of clear issues in translation leading to different meanings. A really good one I mention is in Genesis, where it talks of creation. In Hebrew, the word for day doesn't just mean a literal day like it does in English. Instead, it just meant a generic unit of time - much like the word hora in Spanish means both "an hour" or just simply "a piece of time." So it is more accurate to interpret it as "steps" rather than literal "days."

Applying the claim, "God helps those who help themselves" to salvation is a complete misunderstanding of what it means. The claim applies on an economic basis. If you are poor and you want to have better cash flow, you can pray about it, but you also have to stop being lazy. You have to acquire some skills to raise your economic value. You have to be willing to be an instrument in how God answers your prayer. If you are not willing to improve yourself, you can forget about getting an answer to your prayer.

None of these misinterpretations (they're not necessarily "lies", but possibly misunderstandings or misinterpretations) affect our salvation, but the overall message of the video is important: we are not to add or take away from God's Word. Period.

Scripture does say Jonah was swallowed by a great fish, but one must know he didn’t hold his breath for three days and three nights. In order to survive the event he would need a supply of air to breathe. Only sea creatures that breathe air and are big enough to keep Jonah alive underwater that long are whales. Kinda like the ‘Big Bang Theory’; truly God created the universe and all life in it. However, there was a process involved that involves celestial bodies moving through space at speed according to known physics. Can anyone attest that He did not use this as a process?

I get interested in reading the Bible because of what older people would say and I couldn’t believe some of it so I had to start reading for myself. That’s a dare or challenge to any teenager.

The information given supports just as strongly that Jesus was in Nazareth. Joseph and Mary fulfilled the requirements of the law, then returned to Nazareth. Jesus was a "young child" when they departed for Egypt.

So it's pretty clear what the New Testament's message about money is... regardless if Timothy's passage is misquoted.
