based on price and features, you had to compare the top of the range ZR Corolla 2.0 petrol, it has much better 17 inch wheels/tyres which improves handling/steering/road-holding and ZR has more luxury to match Golf better. I bet Corolla will cost a lot less in ownership over its lifetime, say about ~10 years. And it drinks regular (cheaper) 91RON unleaded unlike Golf which needs 95RON premium. VW is going to cost a lot to repair when it breaks. More to service also. Its not designed to last as long as Toyota and it costs more to buy and insure. Reliability/dependability surveys put Toyota and Lexus in top-3 or top-5 for many years and VW is not even in top-10, more like in top-20. Neither car is special and this 1.4 Golf is just a German Corolla sold in Australia at a much higher price.
@@mvnorsel6354 our family has had two Toyotas, I have at least a dozen friends with Corollas, and about a half dozen with Golfs (and an Audi) - for reliability and longevity, Toyota is an easy winner.
When fuel consumption is mentioned, they never say what petrol the cars use. 91 RON for the Toyota vs 95 RON for the VW with about 20 cents difference per litre, that adds up to quite a lot when filling the tank.
@@lukem2260 it arrives next week. Ordered in June. Tiguan I ordered at same time is due end of Jan (Australia), so massive delays which we were told about from the outset.
I don't like it when people compare vehicle that are not in the same trm/package level or different categories. They should have had a corolla XR a better comparison.
Yes the golf Trump's the mighty corrolla in all areas eg better drive ,road handling ,steering interior infotainment system higher tech eng ,8sp TC auto far better than the rubber band CVT but that's were it all ends questionable reliability post warranty eg plastic water pump fail ,AC compressor, info slash music system been known to fail could go on about the known faults but I pretty sure the private buying public are aware hence the boring corrolla keeps topping sales chart It has the audacity to keep going even after 20+ years with all accessories still functioning the way it should
That Toyota looks like a Renault Megane, older Toyotas like 2012 are better 2013s are trash id argue. Open a trunk of new Camry, it sounds like a trash can. They are also hard to maintain and pain at the back for spare parts in many people experiences this.
Coralla / Toyota have never made a car which can really be compared to a Golf for style, tech nor driver enjoyment. Reliability myths? Most car brands share / use the same components, the golf has an Aisin auto, same as most Toyota torque converter autos, for example.
Own gti b4…. Vw never mentioning about free gremlins build in 🤣… every years different problems… good chassis & power… but 😂😂😂😂… now own Toyota 86 & swift sports….. endless fun & 0 problems 😜
Just picked up my silver and black 2021 Corolla hatchback, manual transmission... here in Canada. It's a solid vehicle.

Keep dreaming and right over your head that joke.
Oh yeah, when I didn’t want a 27k car, I usually go for the 39k one (vice versa)
😂
should’ve compared the Corolla ZR for fairness.
Comparison is all wrong with this review should have been:
- Golf with Corolla Ascent
- Golf Life with Corolla SX
- Golf R-Line with Corolla ZR
When the GR Corolla then GR C-HR will arrive, give Corolla a C-HR 1.2 four cylinder turbo motor include optional AWD will sell Corollas well.
The models here selected to compare are absolutely not suitable. The presentation is great😍.
Should compared SX version Corolla with the Life Golf..
The 16" wheels on the lower spec corollas have always looked undersized. Should be 17".
Carsales and caradvice are doing the worst kind of comparison and reviews at the moment!
ZR , why didn’t you test the ZR model?
$37000 for a basic golf??? ridiculous (
not the basic golf, its the mid-spec model

I wonder if you kept both cars for 10 years, which one would be less troublesome?
The Corolla, although no DSG now may be better than before.
Don’t even need to wonder that… you already know the answer as do reliability surveys ☺️
@@brainsmatterpodcast I have never owned either car. With any purchase you need alittle luck.

@@brainsmatterpodcast For most people reliability ranks No 1. Not much good if the car is in the shop. Thanks.
This video would rather have a much better name: How much you would get if you spend $10,000 more when buying a hatchback.

This is a joke in terms of the comparison right? At least spec it against the hybrid heh
Apples and oranges… that being said, I can’t wait for my Golf to arrive later this year. Absolute dream to test drive.

There are many Golfs owners that reached 600k + km without any issues. Just oil changes and tires. That’s it. Can you do that. VW is in our hearts.
Should had compared with the entry level Golf..
VW Aust probably didn’t have a base model golf for them to test
Yep!

yeah lets compare a Euro spec VW vs the Base model Toyota.... NO mention of the Hybrid? Shit comparison.
I switched to a VW Sharan from a Mazda 8. Much more solid car feel but Warning lights on the dashboard is a common occurence.
Do they really have that many issues? What a shame

You obviously should be comparing a Golf Life with a Corolla SX.
You should compare a higher priced corolla to the vw and the corolla will win hands down

The Golf looks way better interior wise.
you cant compare a volkswagen with a toyota its like comparing usd to euro
Unfair comparison - even then in terms of value for money the Corolla is clearly better. Thats why I bought one!

let´s compare an 80k Audi A6 an a 10k Dacia Sandero an look which car will be better ;/

Golf is the better car, only for the first 5 years. Wait until all the gizmos start to fall apart and becomes a huge money pit.
Such a shame. I drove a golf years ago as a rental. It was so solid.
Why is the Australian Golf look different and more modern than the Canadian model?
MK8?
wow she is cute id luv to take her out for supper and ice cream
pretty smart too knows her stuff
Lol 27k vs 39k well done freak.
One of them will throw up dashboard warning lights at 60k miles. The other will keep on going…… I think I’ll sink my money into the Corolla 😉
