Who else feels like they're waaay to excited about the release of this video? I never thought I'd be interested to see the result of an antique restoration. I make fun of people for watching football, and look at me. :D Thanks for posting!!
If someone had told me 20 years ago that I would spend 23 minutes watching a guy who I’ve never met, in another country, waxing an antique writing desk while I’m sat drinking coffee on a Saturday morning, I would have told them they were mad. But that’s just what I’ve done, and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. A great video of an amazing craftsman doing an expert job. Thank you Tom, your pace, instruction and detail are absolutely spot on.
It is always a pleasing pastime to watch as you bring old furniture back to a state of beauty. I always watch, but rarely comment. I escape current events by watching your satisfying and peaceful presentations. For the sake of peace, you are one of my 'Go To' channels.
Well Tom, wasn't sure you could pull it off, but you did. Just kidding. Pleasure to watch the craftsmanship and artistry result in something that looks pretty good. Thanks
Gosh, if you were every going to break with tradition and say, "I think it looks magnificent," don't you think this would be a great candidate? Your videos are a gift to the community, my friend! I've now watched every one of your videos (we all have our addictions), so I have to just be patient for the next inspiring installment. I've searched the RUclips and I cannot find your equal (no disrespect to the others intended).
Another great video. You continue to pull rabbits out of your hat in these repairs. You know you are a woodworker if your neighbor brings you his old stained tee shirts and a roll of paper towels for your birthday and you are elated. I can still remember our bottle of Old English scratch remover under our sink at home as a remedy for rambunctious children. Thank you.
This video is just what I need. A late night, an IPA in a glass, and just some alone time watching this. Our dog passed away on Wednesday, so home hasn't been quite it self since. Pet your dog one extra time from me
Sorry to hear that! I know how you feel, my dog named Meany passed away three years ago and there's not a day that I dont think of her and miss her very much. I adopted her when she was a few weeks old and she was my companion and my protector because she wouldn't let anyone get close to me other than my son....
Tom, your attention to detail and just the amount of hours you put into a piece, shows your Professionalism and Real Craftmanship. You are amazing... truly! The sheer joy I get from watching your videos, well... I hope you don't stop cause it would be devastating. Much love, and God Bless. ❤😊👍
It is a dream came true with this pretty piece of furniture restored as only you can do. Ella seams enjoy it in her favorite spot. Thank you Mr. Johnson and may God bless you all.
She probably prefers “elderly” or “mature” woman as opposed to antique lady, but I do love what you did with her desk. In all seriousness though, it never ceases to amaze me to see your work, attention to detail, and level of knowledge. Love your videos.
a "Lady's Desk" is the name of that type of furniture, kind of like a Tallboy or Chest of Drawers. But I too love his restorations, they are always done with so much care and without ruining the patina of a piece.
I think it looks "very good" and what a pleasure it is to watch you work your professional magic restoration on vintage pieces of heirloom furniture. I only hope your restored piece is around for another century.
I've been checking every day for part 2, waiting not very patiently. 😉 It's the fine details and the time you take to get them just right that produces a beautiful outcome every time. A pleasure to watch and always a learning experience. Thank you for sharing. 😁💖👍
Amazing piece of work Thomas. Your videos became a "musst watch" status for all antique lovers world wide. Stay safe and have a nice weekend. Rgds from Germany, where we finally got vaccinated and are looking for a brighter future.
You reclaimed the beauty that the original maker intended. It's good for another hundred years or more if it comes to the hands of someone who appreciates as much as you, Mr. Johnson. Thanks for your service to the planet. Have a wonderful day!
It is joy to watch the transformation of old pieces from just "old" to beautiful antiques. This captured my attention and I am so glad. Thank you for your careful and expert work.
Once again Sir. A fantastic job. Your knowledge and skills are amazing. I love your videos. You make gems out of things so many would send to the dumpster or skip as we say in England.. Keeping these items alive for future generations. I can tell you love your work. Thank you again for all the time and effort. Great audio, no stupid jokes or terrible sound tracks. Advice is concise and to the point. You are a true master.
Yes! I began refinishing(destroying) things at age 15. I wanted to make them perfect again. I learned to treat restorations with the a portion of the Hippocratic Oath-I will abstain from all intentional wrong-doing and harm. I call it careful archiving.
A lovely job. However, I note that your faithful black Lab appears at the end with the writing desk 'in situ'. Now either the desk is in your own home, or you provide a dog-lending service to your clients. Either way, I'm impressed.
Tom, it may not be of interest to all of your fans, but if you ever have the opportunity to cover some business aspects…I’ll watch them with the same level of enthusiasm and note taking as I do your restoration videos. Also…your color and finish matching skills are the best. Thank you for your diligence in the industry and willingness to share with all of us. Keep up the great work!
Thing I love most about this channel is how satisfying it is seeing what sometimes looks little more than firewood turned back into a beautiful piece of furniture. Simply outstanding work once more.
I love your attention to detail, Tom. The slightest blemish always gets the royal treatment. They say the devil is in the detais, I would say your genius is in the details. And you teach us that the best polish is always elbow grease!
....and now she's good for another 100 years. I think watching you repair the finish is one of my favorite parts of your videos. Layers of tint and stain until the wound just blends away.
Who the heck doesn't like Tom's videos? What can someone find unlikable? I love every video he posts.
Thank you! That's nice. It's been explained to me that most dis-likes are by bots
