@@darwinrodriguez5485 because it's a space ship pilot, the warship is capable of warp jump individually, not to mention its realistic size is huge and packs a lot of fire power, ffs.
@@darwinrodriguez5485 basically, it's hazardous radiation protection. The Tempest generates a lot of that.
It's because the ship he's in generates so much energy that Tempest pilots have to wear the armor to protect themselves from their own ship.

The two "HELP" quotes that the Tempest has makes me think that the game should alert the player with different lines if a unit has died. For example, say you have a group of Tempests doing their thing, and while you're looking at your base, they start being attacked. The game will alert you with "We meet the enemy in glorious battle!" However, you decided to look back to your base. Then, one of the tempests dies, and then the game will alert you with "Hull integrity failing!" The same could happen for all untis (e.g. "We have met the enemy!" when Carriers meet the enemy, and "We are in peril!" when at least one has died).
That way, players would know whether their units are only being attacked, or whether they're dying and hence being overwhelmed.
It does happen,the help quotes cant be heard any other way.
It makes sense that a unit driving a ship is wearing more armor than a ground unit that does melee fighting XD
Here's an extract from Starcraft wiki:
[Tempest pilots build up volatile energies in the kinetic matrix that powers the tempest, then propels the energy through the ship's hull. This, fused with a contained sphere of highly-charged particles, can then be launched at distant targets. The fanatic tempest pilots must wear bulky dampening armor to protect them from the energies coursing through the ship.]
That explains everything.
Ironically, Tempest is voiced by the same man as the Carrier (was). At least I think.

Protoss rely more on their shields for protection. Zealots wear minimal armor so as not to restrict movement, as they fight using blades on their wrists.
1:06 Oh my god, that's a reference to the, "I have no mouth yet I must scream" game! That's a reeeeally unknown game, 2D and stuff. Wow, never thought I'd see it referenced in SC2.
"I have no mouth and I must scream" wasn't originally a game. It started as a popular creepy short story that got turned into several adaptations, one of them being that really weird game we know. This is probably referencing the original story that inspired it.

Of course, protoss rely on shields, rather than armor, so armor turned into a status symbol.
It's normal for a high-ranked templar flying a capital ship to have more ornaments on his armor than a simple zealot.

This never made much sense to me about the protoss... The safer they are the more armor they have... High up in their tempests with the massively long rnage... They wear THAT much armor...
