criminally underrated.
yes
Agreed Jim Carrey one forgotten gem from 90s and early 2000s
No better way to describe its reception. I love this movie.
The best movie Jim ever did. Brought tears to my eyes. This is one of my favorites.
Agreed. This scene gives me goose bump every time.
This is a very good underrated film
Ahmed Atm AGREE no one ever mention even though much less movies are very popular
For some reason this movie got dumped on very, very heavily when it was first released and I'm not sure why. I heard people call the movie saccharine, manipulative, and every other criticism you can think of and I've never understood it.
@@raulmontanez3528 I respect your opinion, but I thought that the "formula" and "cliche" were intentional and this was sort of a throwback to the type of movie Frank Capra would've made, this small town USA world in which everyone knows everyone, and even Carrey is channeling sort of a Jimmy Stewart kind of vibe in his performance.
@@raulmontanez3528 It's all but impossible not to follow some kind of "formula" when making movies. Everything has been done. Every storyline you can think up resembles or flat out copies another. But the thing is, the formula works. The "cliches" stand the test of time. There are a LOT of people who love these kinds of movies. And frankly, I don't see anything "stereotypical" about the characters. And Jim Carrey is a damn good actor, in fact every person in this movie gives a first rate performance, but I understand if you're unfamiliar with what that looks like, considering you have something against movies like this.
Great movie. Jim shows that he can play something other than a goofball and has a real soul in this one. Nice work
exactly
eternal sunshine, yes man, and the number 23 he really did great on those roles
You should see The Truman Show mate!
He ofter did that in many movie such as The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of Spotless Mind
@@hororlover9071 yeah but in those all you really see is jim you kinda don't get sucked into the characters like you can with a ton of other actors there is a reason jim has been type cast his entire life
I don't know how this movie didn't get a better showing and better reviews. It's a beautiful picture and Jim does a fantastic job at side stepping away from his comedy roles into a serious role for a movie with real heart.
Roger Ebert loved this film
A very underrated movie.
Completely agree…I loved it
The reason that this movie wasn’t pushed is because after filming is right around the time when Jim Carey started to wake up to the corruption & betrayal of Hollywood and stepped back from it.
I love Jim Carrey comedies but among all of his movies, The Majestic and The Truman Show are my favorites, could watch them over and over, love them !!!
The entire reason why I keep coming back to this vid is bc it’s the only way I can see my grandfathers car
Jim should have gotten the best lead Actor award Oscar for this movie, I wish he had gotten the much deserved Oscar for his performance.
A great movie for a rainy afternoon.
you think
Ya, if you need to fall asleep
@@justinhopper5941 😂
This was one of the best movies Jim Carey ever did and what the heck is wrong with America that it lost money at the box office. Sad so sad I loved it so much he did a great job and the music was fabulous.
Look for "The Majestic - Original Theatrical Trailer." It has the WB logo at the bottom right of the screen. It gives the impression of a completely different movie than this one does. This trailer a much better representation of what the movie is like.
@@dougg.3193 Just watched it. BIG difference!
The other trailer makes it look like you're going to watch The Mask. Which I like that movie. But when you're expecting something different you shouldn't use things that look familiar from Jim Carrey's past films. Like the music during the trailer. The other trailer has more serious tone to it.
@@dougg.3193 Whoa... you're totally right! The original trailer makes it almost seem like a suspense/thriller. People were probably so confused! I never saw a trailer for it, I just went to see it with my family (I was 10 when it came out), and we all loved it. But honestly, if I'd seen the original trailer, I might not have wanted to see it. Crazy!
An outstanding movie. I don’t care what the critics say. It’s one of his best.
Brilliant trailer + Brilliant Acting + Brilliant Movie + Jim Carrey = A masterpiece. 👏👏👏
ha
@@MrGabeanator Ha ha...... ;-)
@@USCG.Brennan hmm
It seems that this is probably Jim Carrey's most forgotten movie and that's really sad because this movie has recently become more relevant now than it has ever been.
I am from an entire family of people who never like one Jim Carrey movie, until he made this one. The entire family loves it, they all own a copy of it. His portrayal of this character was spot on. The writing, characterizations, story line, music, clothing, cars, town, everything was perfect. Great movie.
That's how my family is too! We have never liked his comedy but this movie is incredible!
Ad me to that list....I can't stand him in any other role and he's WAY too full of himself in real life, but he did an amazing job in this movie!!
This is my favourite Jim Carrey movie
I saw this movie opening weekend. I remember walking out of the theater having really enjoyed it, and then I never heard about it again. A shame, this was an excellent movie.
This looks beautiful. And this is an actual trailer. I need to see this movie one day
Watch it now! Its a great film!
Honestly, this is one of my all time favorite movies. It's right up there with Hook, The Princess Bride, and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Absolute masterpiece. Idk if you've already watched the movie since you commented 2 years ago, but if not, DO IT. 😊
I think Jim looked his best at this age, in this film.
Yeah also 50s aesthetic looks good on anyone
Poor Jim is fighting his demons now. 😭
He was a handsome man in his day, and I agree, this is probably when he looked, acted, and felt his best.
My favorite Jim Carey movie
One of Jim Carey’s best ever
This is definitely my top 5 Jim Carrey movies
Watching it right now. My favourite serious Jim Carrey role.
One scene in this film never fails to make me 😢😭.
I love you son
I love you....(sobs)... Dad
Jim Carrey your suppose to make me laugh not bawl.
Something about this reminds me of It’s a Wonderful Life (1946).
That's what it reminded me of as well
Frank Darabont is a big fan of Frank Capra's work. Also big fan of actor James Stewart.
@@independentthinker.273 that’s amazing
Kind of a reverse It's a Wonderful Life, since he's the one forgetting, rather than everyone forgetting him, but definitely a similar vibe.
"the magic is all around you, the trick is to SEE it"
from the grinch to this what a leap
The Majestic is a great movie! And it sends yet another message to our nation what we Americans are all about. Jim Carey should have gotten an award for his portrayal of Luke. The movie’s co-stars are legends in our movie history. Most of those old timers are gone now. It is so nice to see them on the screen again, even if it’s on my own tv playing the DVD.
The majestic I love how Jim carrey acted normal in the film he showed different behaviour how he didn't know who he his and realised his real name as his character.
Define normal?
I’ve been watching a lot of 2001 movie trailers and I swear this guy narrates everything lol
It's Peter Cullen. The same person who does the voice for Optimus Prime in the Transformers TV series and movies.
Anyone else notice at the very end when the real Luke is reading his letter that it's voiced by Matt Damon?
Wow, I remember going to this movie with my friend. It was a great movie, great memories.
RIP martin landau
It's a shame this movie got a limited release.
Director of the shawshank redemption +jim = majestic
This is by far my favorite Jim Carey movie. Maybe because he isn't trying to be funny.
Watched it..the movie was amazing jimmy was stupendous....
Brooks was here.
😭😭
Loooool i couldn't remember where i saw that guy
The music in this trailer is from the 1994 Little Women!
That’s wonderful
R.I.P. Martin Landau Hal Holbrook and David Ogden Stiers
And James Allen Whitmore Jr. 😔
@@independentthinker.273 oh Forgotten that
Just rewatched this yesterday. Jim was just amazing in it! Absolutely great. He did such a wonderful job.
Enjoyed the excellent atmosphere and the spirit of the 50ies...
If you where white
@@thy-wounded lol
@@thy-wounded I'm not white but I like the 50s. Wokeness is a disease
By far his best movie!!!!
A great 👍 yet underrated performance by Jim Carrey.
He is the GOAT 🐐
A beautiful movie
I love this movie ❤️💕
Why is Frank Darabont so underrated?
small filmography
It's like classical music vs. pop music...... quality vs. quantity..... feelings and emotions vs. box office records. His works are not for anybody. Only a select few can actually appreciate his genius and his craftsmanship.
@@parintelebaiazid80 Sort of like Kubrick. He only made 13 films, but they have 10x more substance than the average film.
I think this was Jim Carrey's best acting job
Heard that this is one of the most underrated old school movies
Comments also confirm this 😂 damn i gotta watch it
beautiful movie
The Majestic my favorite movie of 2001.
awesome underrated film
i love this
Jim's love interest in this movie is played by Laurie Holden, who was in The Walking Dead. Fine actress, and good looking. ..Good flick.
She played the part to the tea! Such a beauty.
Bruce Campbell was in this the blockbuster buster must love it
Great movie
I’m staying in Ferndale Cali and it’s a great town! Someone told me this movie was filmed here. Haven’t seen the movie yet but will now
Wow, you are living in the town where the movie was made? That is amazing! This movie is one of the most beautiful movies I've ever seen. Perfect, writing, casting, directing, acting, editing and music score! It is on the same list as Casablanca for me as far as perfection goes. The cast is just amazing ((as long as one is old (mature) enough to appreciate them))
i've worked my way here all week
The best movie ❤
i was looking up a song and saw this trailer looks good never heard of it same director as green mile and shawshank definitely watching this
I really like this movie
The Majestic was released in theaters on Friday December 21, 2001.
Beautiful movie, I'm watching it right now ( minute 2:21:42) and it's really good. Making me cry❤😢
a good movie
from the grinch to this which almost comes off as a cappra film what a leap wow
Exactly
i like this
looks good
I do not understand the critique this movie got. It is a really touching story and the actors are bang on.
here i am finally
this bombed I blame a beautiful mind
i've worked the way here all week
50 times better than the Truman Show this pulls your heart right out of your Chest A true Cult Classic 😊
Man on the moon.
A very, very good movie. But overlooked by audiences. Bit sad for this. Jim, Martin, and the rest of the cast were, Majestic...
Nice script movie nice performance
I love the trailer (and movie) but I thought it had the "From the director of" lines (and named The Green Mile first) when it showed Jim Carrey and Laurie Holden running.
Peter Cullen provides the trailer narration for this film.
yep that's right
How I roll when I have a shift.
I miss how movies used to be
Jim should have won an Oscar for Truman Show and/or Man on Moon
All trailers are 240p, just like a VHS would have been several years before this movie was even in theaters.
I learned today a piece of this movie was inspired the prince and the pauper starring mickey mouse
no wonder its a good movie..........shawshank redemption guy produced it
yep
dont forget the green mile
Frank Darabont, he's a great writer and director, not only he gave us 4 fantastic films, he also brought "THE WALKING DEAD" to TV, because he was a big fan of the comics!!!! Thank you, Frank, you are one of the best filmmakers out there.
no kiddin
Developed by Frank Darabont, "The Walking Dead".
Somehow i passed this film up. Feel like it dropped in an era where I wasn’t ready to full accept Jim as a dramatic lead, even though i loved Truman Show, which was still a little silly especially the first half
This came out 20 years ago today
cars shouldve been more like this
This movie is like The Truman Show and Pleasantville combined.
i'm surprised this wasn't a Stephen King story
Considering this was Directed by Frank Darabont (frequent King Adapter), it very well could've been...
@@OddOneOut665 yep
So that’s what Andrea and Dale were doing before the zombie apocalypse.
Give me Big Fish vibes
a truly beautiful movie. a bit long for my liking.
joblo sent me and i've learned things
Do you think other cast members (Not just Jim Carrey) from “In living color” like Shawn Wayans, Kelly Coffield, Kim Coles, Tommy Davidson, David Alen Grier, T'keyah Crystal Keymah, Damon Wayans, Keenan Ivory Wayans and Kim Wayans ever played main lead characters with serious personalities from other movies? I know Jamie Fox did with "Soul" from 2020, but what about the other cast members from "In living color."
this should've been the plot of cars
the director of the shawshank redemption and the green mile check and check
Why doesn’t anyone remember this movie??
Because it didn't do well when it was released. It's incredibly underrated
I always got this Truman show and man on the moon mixed up
The music in this trailer comes from some other film. Does anybody know which one?
Little Women, the 1990s version with Winona Ryder.
Dayley Pittman Yes, that’s it! Thanks...
I was thinking the exact same thing and scanned the comments to see if anyone else had picked up on that too!
And yes! Little Women! That’s the one. Now I remember! Great soundtrack. Fried Green Tomatoes also has a great soundtrack if you‘ve never heard it before.
I would really appreciate if someone could upload deleted scenes of this movie.
At 0:44 That’s Jim Carrey In Real Life In 2021
