This movie hit me in a way that not many movies have. "Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around." After watching this movie and hearing its message, I picked up the phone and made some changes in my life. I was someone living my life with some regret and this movie helped me turn it all around.
I remember watching this movie when I was a child with my father. I didn’t understand it then but I just remember him crying and crying. He’s gone now but this movie makes me think of him.
I truly believe this movie to be the most underrated, miss understood movie of all times. It is a beautiful film. It really, in short, tells you that doesn't matter how much money and success you may have, the best things in life are free. Also it speaks volumes on how not to mistreat others or it may come back to hunt you later on. And lastly, it speaks about how easy you can miss the most wonderful thing in life if you don't wise up and grasp it.
This is one of those movies that are gaining respect and appreciation years after their original release. The press was unjustifiably harsh on Vanilla Sky but you have to agree it is an excellent thriller scifi drama or whatever it is. As good as the original spanish movie and very different in its own right. Love every minute of it!!
This movie is easily on the top 10 of the most underrated movies of all time. A masterpiece, a rollercoaster of emotions, amazing soundtrack and from the very first minute you feel unease, it captured my attention and I went from real happiness to true sadness and I didn't expect the ending at all. One of my favorite films of all time.
Got the dvd back then because I thought it was a great movie, my last watch was around 2005. I couldnt exactly remember the story as a whole, so I picked up the dvd last month and watched it again and, indeed..IT IS a fantastic movie. I'll watch it again in around 10 years for a reminder of how good it was 😅
I must disagree with all the people saying ‘Abre los Ojos’/‘Open your eyes’ was better. I think Tom Cruise’s performance was stellar, as well as the character chemistry(David and Sofia)and their credibility, Cameron Diaz was excellent at conveying the obsession and despair of her character... But at the end of the day it’s all a matter of taste, watch both and judge for yourself. I’m grateful ‘Abre los ojos’ was ever made, but to me the real masterpiece is Vanilla Sky.

Had to punch a wall to feel like a man again after tears were rolling down my face and I had no idea why. It was just... beautiful, depressing, incredible, just... Wow. Absolutely perfect. 11/10.

I totally understand where you’re coming from! +ll tt It might be if compared to an original, but I don't care, Vanilla Sky is a fantastic film and I will not allow anywhere to denigrate on here. Please refrain or I will hunt you down and fight you.
The pain of this movie is etched deep in my mind and my heart and my soul. Forever. Mission impossible 2, The butterfly effect and Vanilla sky completely changed the way i see the world.
I watched this movie yesterday and i remember that i wanted to see this movie so bad as it was in the cinema 2002 here in germany but i was only 11 years old. But because of my young age this movie was only can be seen with my parents. So my parents watched this movie first before they deicide if it is a film for such a young boy but they told me that i would not understand this movie and it would be better watching it a few years later. Now iam 33 and this movie is on my all time fav list along with "drive" (wich i watched last week),"blade runner 2049","butterfly effect"," 12 monkeys". I can´t think a day without thinking about this movie and my emotions....it´s crazy.
It was darker and creepier which made it intriguing, but in no other way is it better. Maybe a few better actors and certain scenes were better, but overall the movie pales in comparison to Vanilla Sky, especially the soundtrack and the entire ending sequence, and that's what pushed Vanilla Sky over the top and made it the movie it was. That's not insulting Abres Los Ojos at all which was quite good, it's just that Vanilla Sky was a much better remake and an absolute masterpiece.
Yes, in fact it's the original one from 1996. Tom Cruise liked it so much that he bought the film rights by phone during the end credits the first time he saw it. The name of the spanish one is "Abre los ojos" (Open your eyes)
I can`t recall how many times I watched this movie since 2002 when I saw it for the first time. I was obsessed with it (and the soundtrack) for quite some time. there are so many small details, hidden clues and hints to discover, so it's really fun to watch it several times.
"You were missed, David. It was Sofia who never fully recovered. It was she who some how knew you best... and like you, she never forgot that one night where true love seemed possible."
Ctrain 8 with the band Spiritualized song “Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in Space” playing in the background. One of my all time fav songs. Just a perfect scene, powerful stuff!
One of the best movies I ever seen. Also a beautiful remake ever made. For those who says the original was better, it all depends on the way you see it. The original focused on making the plot more suspenseful and psychological (horror), while Vanilla Sky focused on the emotions and feelings of the characters. Vanilla Sky closely follows the exact plot and scenes of the original but it's way of delivery and cinematography is entirely different. Both movies give an entirely different experience. The Academy winning Director Cameron Crowe just tried take a different pathway for Vanilla Sky. Unlike the original, Vanilla Sky is a romantic - emotional (drama) movie.
I like the remake more, the concept of lucid dreaming is way more appealing in vanilla sky and cinematography in dividing those two worlds are much better. It grabs u more emotionally and hits u harder. The original is still a masterpiece also!
My favorite all-time movie. Every moment of it emphasizes a vital life lesson bathed in inspirational quotes, great acting, and cinematography that brings David Aimes Dream to life as well as his nightmares. It expresses the idea that one small thing can have a major impact on the outcome of someone's life. That love and loss, go hand in hand, and that you can't have one without the other. The loss that Aimes encounters due to that singular moment where he makes a bad decision that is so small in that instant but in hindsight, it is the moment that he lost everything stuck with me in my youth till now. I love how the world he dreamed up was a culmination of all that he loved in his life; His mothers vanilla sky, the therapist being the father figure he always wanted, the scene of his second chance at life with Sophia being based on an album cover that touched him as a child, and then Sophia the love of his life; who he barely knew in real life, and yet out of all of the things that he loved, His mind took those things and took the memory of that perfect night where he first met her and made a heaven out of it where she was at the center of it all. The sorrow of that heaven being an illusion, knowing that the real person died years ago and that to accept that means to lose her forever I can't think of a greater pain than the acceptance of that sort of loss that is all to common. But he comes to terms with reality not knowing what awaits him on the other side, he lets go of the dream and he wakes up. It's truly a beautiful movie that is overlooked extremely. The only movie that came close to this one in terms of sticking with me was "What Dreams May Come" with Robin Williams
This has always been my favorite movie, I was in High school and I remember the reviews were bad. I never understood why, i thought it was amazing... sad, exciting the plot, the story of being in love, obsessed, vulnerable, blind. Just a roller coaster of emotions. Bravo 👏🏾
One of it not the best performance of Tom Cruise's career in my opinion, should've won an Oscar for this hands down! Great movie that I watch once every ten years. Two thumbs way up! 👍🏾❤💯
Even me. I watched so many mindfvcking movies like Memento, Triangle, and Shutter Island. But this even more than halfway I was confused what's happening.
god this is my favorite movie in the world I thought i was alone I can't even rationalize why people outside of myself all love it I am an introvert and I never talk to anyone I am in tears because you guys loved it too this is seriously my first film that I have loved I never talk to anyone it's beautiful I've never felt people before this in the world
@Kylo Ren Aaaaw, I want to give you a hug now! For what it worths : I used to be like you when I was younger. VERY introverted, never talking to anyone (too shy, too scared of being boring or uninteresting, too different from the other people that only want to be famous or popular)... But believe me : you have the ability to FEEEL POWERFULLY emotions, and that is a gift. With time, you will see that it will make you an extraordinary person, because you have empathy. And trust me, right now, in 2020, in this world that we are living : we're gonna need people like you. But I can understand that you feel relieved to see that there are other people like you who can feel like you do :) Movies and music are the best roads to find people that you belong with :)
Probably my favorite film of all time. And just think, Donnie Darko, Mulholland Drive and Vanilla Sky all came out within about 6 weeks. What a autumn 2001 was.
I first watched this movie when I was like 13. So yeah, I didn't really understand it very much back then and felt kind of weird after watching it. 5 years later, I picked up on this, rewatched it and I have to say that my mind got blown. Vanilla Sky has been my favourite movie ever since. This movie has never really gotten the appreciation it truly deserves. The soundtrack is terrific and sigur ros just perfectly syncs in with the scene, enhancing the emotion and visual appeal with its heavenly music. People are misguided and judging this movie just because Tom Cruise is seen as a mediocre conventional actor. But I have to admit, Tom played an impeccable role in this movie and it really surprised me to notice that. I also watched the original spanish version of this movie called Abre los ajos but still, I find Vanilla Sky to be much better and I hardly prefer american remakes over originals. My advice? Just go watch it and think for yourself. Don't judge, just go into it with an open mind and be amazed.
I guess this movie give us a clear message, all of us are thinking all the time in past or future, in how we look this morning, in if I am as cool as him ? Or just watching all the time TV believing everything they say us and the only thing we need to do is TO OPEN OUR EYES and realize about the real life we are living and the real world we are living in.
Movie is absolutely amazing. It hit theaters just a couple months after 9/11, and I think that's why it was overlooked. I found it in some bargain DVD bin years later and bought it for a few dollars. That's how I discovered it. What a gem to find.
Not gonna lie, this is a perfect movie of it's own. The movie hit me deeply and I enjoy every little part of it, from the script, the actors, the performance, the music, the journey.
My second most favorite movie. My favorite scene is in the park after the accident, and the monolouge about his dreams at the end of that scene... Such a sad but important movie. And of course the incredible soundtrack and how brilliantly they have matched each and every song with the right scene..
I cannot say enough good things about this movie. Most people here would hate on a movie that is cliche where you know what's going to happen, however there are so many twists and turns that make you think. What makes it amazing is that although sometimes your confused, it keeps you on the edge of your seat till the very end! I really wish they'd make another one, because it was great! However, the actors/ actresses they picked were absolutely perfect!! You fall in love with all of them for sure, especially (Sofia) ;)
Ive watched this before ,but watching again years later and wow ,its simply mind bending and gripping with an awesome soundtrack One of Tom Cruises best movies ❤
Just watched this again tonight and damn this movie is too good. The acting so good in this movie you feel it. Any single bachelor can relate to this movie.
I cannot hear Solsbury Hill the same after this movie. This film goes from hearts and flowers of a rich billionaire meeting the love of his life to complete chaos in a matter of minutes. Just watched it for the hundredth time again recently and it’s still amazing.
If someone watched this trailer before actually seeing the movie I'm sure they would've thought that they already knew what was going to happen without having to see the movie but of course they'd be in for a surprise
This movie should’ve had a part 2!!! Like at the end when he wakes up in real life I wanna know what happens next 😂 This movie is really something else!!!! I’ve seen like some 3-4 times years apart and it ALWAYS blows my mind!!
can say that this is one of the most saddest love stories.. He is a millionaire playboy, never been in love, but is warned time and again by his best friend that someday he will know what the 'sour in love' means..and indeed, he in falls in love but it all goes wrong the very next moment bcoz of one choice he makes..! Its worth watching, one of Tom Cruises finest performances!
I watched it and had to watch again. I saw things in the second viewing on a deeper level. A brilliant film with a profound message and meaning. It's the little things. And the consequences of what seems like a flippant deciisn that can change the course of lifetimes. I will probably watch it agsin. Outstanding. 💯
I just wanna Say thanks to every person that Made this movie. It is simply a Masterpiece. All the actors, all the music, all of it is great and this is the Best movie af all times. Im glad to see that I'm not the only one who believes that this movie is an absolotely work of art. I don't know how many times I've seen this but every time I watch it I feel incredible. It just blows My mind. So thank you for this mind blowing movie.
people assume this is chessy hollywood romcom, when it turned out one of the most amazing experience about life, making choices and how imagination can be a nightmare if you won't let go. 10/10
+theawecabinet I keep hearing that. Am definitely gonna have to check out the original, although Alejandro Amenabar who made Abre Los Ojos says he loved Vanilla Sky.
I literally just Finished watching the movie for the first time!! such a great movie It has me speechless and it's very much soothing. It's on Netflix Enjoy.
As everyone here has already expressed, this is an incredible film, just like this perfect trailer. It shows just enough to keep you interested while not giving anything away. And the music / cuts at the end 👌
It's been Almost 2 decades since the film release in 2001 when I was a school student..... & Till today I haven't watched it even once. How come I have missed such a good movie ?
Most underrated movie I've ever seen. Every critic that gives it a bad review notes that it makes no sense or is too confusing? It makes perfect sense, I think they more or less steal opinions from each other's reviews.
Y'know how you can never predict what things from the current era will become iconic when looking back? Well the music and style of this trailer are SO late-90s early-2000s, the nostalgia is extreme.
One of the finest work done by Tommy❤️ He is the king of sci fi movies. The love story is truly emotional cz everyone left him cz of his face. poor Tommy 🥺
I remember one of my friends went and saw this movie when it came out. He trashed it. Mocked it mercilessly. So, assuming my friend had decent taste in films, I put off watching it for 10 years or so. Then, I saw it. The movie must’ve went over his head because, IMO, it’s one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
This movie hit me in a way that not many movies have. "Every passing minute is another chance to turn it all around." After watching this movie and hearing its message, I picked up the phone and made some changes in my life. I was someone living my life with some regret and this movie helped me turn it all around.
Yeah these kind of movies can alter one's life. Very strong points it brought up. Strong themes
I wish I understood the movie as well as you did.
If ever you get time, please consider explaining me your interpretation please.
This quote stuck with me since the film came out. I'm now in my early 30s and that quote still very often comes to mind each time I feel discouraged ❤

Mission Impossible 2 ? :D
@@Iker122 yeah that one didn't fit :)
This movie messed with my mind pretty good. Still cant get over it
Butterfly Effect was eerily similar.
Best movie i've ever seen.
It's a shame its so underrated
Arpit Agarwal open your eyes is better.
AEguy Productions no
It was darker and creepier which made it intriguing, but in no other way is it better.
Sorry no. I've watched both.
Arpit Agarwal its because people with below average iq has a hard time to understand it
Cameron Diaz is so good at playing an obsessed stalker psycho chick.
She can make a good Harley Quinn.
In the spanish version her character is performed by Najwa Nimri, the pregnant police from Money Heist
@@alburton1516 What the,there is a Spanish version?
Yes, in fact it's the original one from 1996. Tom Cruise liked it so much that he bought the film rights by phone during the end credits the first time he saw it. The name of the spanish one is "Abre los ojos" (Open your eyes)
@@alburton1516 Interesting. I'm gonna check it out.
I can`t recall how many times I watched this movie since 2002 when I saw it for the first time. I was obsessed with it (and the soundtrack) for quite some time. there are so many small details, hidden clues and hints to discover, so it's really fun to watch it several times.
Perfectly put!
This movie soundtrack is unmatched, it’s so good
"You were missed, David. It was Sofia who never fully recovered. It was she who some how knew you best... and like you, she never forgot that one night where true love seemed possible."
So sad... Consequences...
It's the little things.... theres nothing bigger.
Ctrain 8 with the band Spiritualized song “Ladies and Gentlemen we are floating in Space” playing in the background. One of my all time fav songs. Just a perfect scene, powerful stuff!
So she is going to look like him in his lucid dream?

Honestly, this is the most memorable movie of my youth and until now the best movie I've ever seen. A must watch for everyone !
Beautiful explanation 💯
Well said
Watch Abre los ojos, the original film
This has always been my favorite movie, I was in High school and I remember the reviews were bad. I never understood why, i thought it was amazing... sad, exciting the plot, the story of being in love, obsessed, vulnerable, blind. Just a roller coaster of emotions. Bravo 👏🏾
This movie is one of the best movies I have ever seen.
I watched it today, and what an amazing film. This has become an instant favourite of mine.
Open your eyes..I love this movie. And I love Tom cruise
One of it not the best performance of Tom Cruise's career in my opinion, should've won an Oscar for this hands down! Great movie that I watch once every ten years. Two thumbs way up! 👍🏾❤💯
This movie made me so confused, i was questioning my own existence after the ending.
Lol ...same with me
Even me. I watched so many mindfvcking movies like Memento, Triangle, and Shutter Island. But this even more than halfway I was confused what's happening.
@@the07pattyvonne lmao that's a 9month old comment but i'm gonna reply anyways.

One of my favorite movies of all time. Very very deep, tragic, beautiful, amazing soundtrack, extremley underrated.
This movie played us back in the day!!! And it was brilliant!!!
god this is my favorite movie in the world I thought i was alone I can't even rationalize why people outside of myself all love it I am an introvert and I never talk to anyone I am in tears because you guys loved it too this is seriously my first film that I have loved I never talk to anyone it's beautiful I've never felt people before this in the world
Kylo Ren if this is true. ❤️. I relate to you 100 percent!
But I can understand that you feel relieved to see that there are other people like you who can feel like you do :)
Movies and music are the best roads to find people that you belong with :)
Vailla Sky was as good as Fight Club, but better
I think retrospectively we can all agree this film is quite brilliant. I try and watch it at least once a year. It still blows me away.
Incredible movie, I have no words to describe how amazing it is. Absolute masterpiece.
I guess this movie give us a clear message, all of us are thinking all the time in past or future, in how we look this morning, in if I am as cool as him ? Or just watching all the time TV believing everything they say us and the only thing we need to do is TO OPEN OUR EYES and realize about the real life we are living and the real world we are living in.
absolutely right.
it has many many different meanings.. now 15 years later I understand maybe 6 times more
Movie is absolutely amazing. It hit theaters just a couple months after 9/11, and I think that's why it was overlooked. I found it in some bargain DVD bin years later and bought it for a few dollars. That's how I discovered it. What a gem to find.
One of the best, most underrated movies ever made. ❤️
Not gonna lie, this is a perfect movie of it's own. The movie hit me deeply and I enjoy every little part of it, from the script, the actors, the performance, the music, the journey.
Exactly watched it first time about 2 months ago and was in shock and saddened at the end made me think about life
Its a star studded cast, really well acted

Watching this in 2018. I Remember seeing this when I was younger. Didn't really understand how amazing this movie is.

My second most favorite movie. My favorite scene is in the park after the accident, and the monolouge about his dreams at the end of that scene... Such a sad but important movie. And of course the incredible soundtrack and how brilliantly they have matched each and every song with the right scene..
That scene is so emotional, the expression on David's face tell us everything he's feeling :'(.
Whats ur favourite movie..??
So what is your favorite film?...im just curious...
Please tell me you watched the 90's original: Abre los ojos(Open Your Eyes)?
I cannot say enough good things about this movie. Most people here would hate on a movie that is cliche where you know what's going to happen, however there are so many twists and turns that make you think. What makes it amazing is that although sometimes your confused, it keeps you on the edge of your seat till the very end! I really wish they'd make another one, because it was great! However, the actors/ actresses they picked were absolutely perfect!! You fall in love with all of them for sure, especially (Sofia) ;)
I watched this movie when I was 22 year and I'm 40 now and it still make me cry

Just watched this again tonight and damn this movie is too good. The acting so good in this movie you feel it. Any single bachelor can relate to this movie.
I cannot hear Solsbury Hill the same after this movie. This film goes from hearts and flowers of a rich billionaire meeting the love of his life to complete chaos in a matter of minutes. Just watched it for the hundredth time again recently and it’s still amazing.
it was a super good movie..tells us money is nothing and love is hard to find...time with love is harder to find wakeup
I went into this film blind, thinking it was some random romcom since I was bored at 3 am. Amazing film

I related more to the Brian character, the friend. It was just one beautiful movie.
An underrated masterpiece and by far the best roll of Cruise's career."Ill see you in another life when we are both cats" :)
i liked the trailer, it doesn't give too much detail away about the actual story, trailers should be more like this
If someone watched this trailer before actually seeing the movie I'm sure they would've thought that they already knew what was going to happen without having to see the movie but of course they'd be in for a surprise
This movie should’ve had a part 2!!! Like at the end when he wakes up in real life I wanna know what happens next 😂
This movie is really something else!!!!
Haven't seen this film in YEARS today is the day we become reunited!
I watched it and had to watch again. I saw things in the second viewing on a deeper level. A brilliant film with a profound message and meaning. It's the little things. And the consequences of what seems like a flippant deciisn that can change the course of lifetimes. I will probably watch it agsin. Outstanding. 💯
a film ahead of its time, today I consider it a masterpiece.
Just watched it... it's amazing how words fail me in trying to express how I felt towards the film.
Glad to have had the experience. :]

Possibly the most underrated movie of all time.
This movie introduced me to Sigur Ros. Such emotional tracks. Untitled 1 for sure. So powerful and hope to be played at my funeral.
It's a good movie but the Spanish version is better, but it's not as good as the medieval play. The cave art version is the best.
