  • #expat #relocation #livingincostarica 'Stress and Anxiety Living in Costa Rica - a difficult discussion'. Costa Rica provides the perfect backdrop to get your life in order. If you want less stress and anxiety in your life, Costa Rica definitely provides an opportunity to make some changes. But why? Because Costa Rica operates at a different speed than that of the United States or other first world countries. The simple life, the 'pura vida', is a calming effect. But what if you come to Costa Rica with an addiction (alcohol, pills, food, etc), thinking you will make a change, but you don't? Suffering with an addiction in another country such as Costa Rica, can be an extremely lonely affair and actually exacerbate the problem(s). If your committed to making a change, Costa Rica might be right for you but just know, that it can make things doubly worse. In this video, Jeanne and I have the tough discussion about dealing with stress and anxiety in Costa Rica.

Great discussion. Been here three years now on disability. I am 60 years old now after 42 years in the restaurant business and then have everything come to a complete stop. I'm like you Micheal I live with what I need and not with I want. Living nomadicly across this country helps my sence of adventure. I love it here but I am still learning how to do nothing. Trying to live as much like the Costa Rican people helps. Try and live like a house cat is difficult but it has its rewards. Try to live without looking at the clock or calendar, no televisión news. All I have is "today" and I would rather have "today" in Costa Rica than the US. Pura Vida my friends thanks for sharing your stories. 🙏🏽🇨🇷❤️

Thank you, Michael, for this very interesting “Topic”
We are all born with the educational instruction of:
Do this Do that. Like a computer, Day In Day Out.
It isn’t easy to accept the new lifestyle because nobody tells me DO This Do That anymore.
What, how do people in our age live in Costa Rica, as all the friends are not with them anymore, what about the part calls social life. How do they overcome all of this.
I would like to see more what people doing coming from North America, Europe, nobody is telling them anymore how the day, week runs.
How do they deal with everyday s adventure on their own. What is it what they do after they explored Costa Rica several times.
Thank you from Canada, but original from Germany LoL

I fell in love with Costa Rica in the late 1990s, when it truly was affordable and raw, and most North Americans thought it was a dangerous island and would never dream of going to it. When the tourists were broke surfers and vagabond Europeans and everybody understood what Pura Vida really meant. We also knew not to bring much more than a pair of really cheap flip flops and a bathing suit. I loved it when I was young, single, healthy, danced until dawn, and ironically not a surfer.😅 Now, at 55, with skin cancer from a life of Southern California beach living, some minor health concerns that pop up, a lack of tolerance of extreme coastal temperatures, awareness of my vulnerability as I age, and preference for cooler waters to surf in, I am looking at another spot for retirement. I visited 17 times and actually think what it offers isn't for me now. The secret is to find Pura Vida wherever you decide to settle. The last time I went, was after a "Series of Unfortunate Events" in my life and was miserable there because I was miserable. I came home and semi-retired in Southern California and will retire elsewhere. However, I will always remember my sexy memories of Costa Rica with a smile.

The pandemic stripped so many people of their identity. Lost jobs, no schooling, no religious services, no shopping, no fitness, etc., etc. It would be better to stop identifying with outside influences and identify with things you can control.

🎉 Michael, people interested in Costa Rica must have the "anxiety" for retirement in Costa Rica. The issues of the weakening economy, the instability in Central America in general, the droughts, the State of Emergency, flood of migrants through the Darien Gap, the spreading cartels, etc. How do you guys address these issues. Many of us can't handle the idea of relocating to the sauna of Southeast Asia and look to Costa Rica as the best alternative to get away from North America. How do you guys look at those things? It sounds as if the heavy heat and humidity is less in Costa Rica than elsewhere. Pura Vida.

For myself were I to wish for something it would be for a better bus and shuttle system to visit great places in Costa Rica/ Still cheaper and easier for me to vacation in other countries
