Hey guys! 8 mins into recording Sheen’s mic cut out, so apologies if the audio starts to get a bit fuzzy 😔
In my weekly newsletter I speak more about how I was able to get my job in DXB: lamideelizabeth.substack.com/?r=2e82ff&
In terms of modern day slavery in Dubai. It still happens in regards to modern day slavery, and also there's history with the Indian Ocean Slave Trade spefically slaves taken from mainland East Africa etc. So there's a lot more to uncover in regards to the UAE and how people are treated you can find several documentaries done by CNN, Aljazeera and others to explore more. Also I think everyone in general should read into the history of East Africa & the Middle East.
*Can you PLEASE make a video on your review of the different neighborhoods you went through in dubai for looking for an aprtment? i would love that insight!*
Omg moe… haven’t seen u in years
I’m feeling so inspired! For a while I have felt so stagnant and wanted to do something out of my comfort zone and now I feel like this makes so much sense for me. I love Dubai. I am in the process of wanting to transition into a new role and move jobs. I just sold my car and have been looking to purchase a new one. I am still living at home and starting to feel desperate to move out and purchase my first property BUT now I am feeling like this is all aligning and this is the time to do something different. I have no commitments, still in my 20s and now I want to move to Dubai
As an American expat in Dubai, this is the most relatable video I’ve seen. I truly felt like I was sitting with you both. Thank you soo sooo much for making this!!
How did you find your job?
@@Jeremiah_29prostitution maybe
Great video ladies. LOVED how you addressed a lot of things arent talked about in the glossy vlog videos about living in Dubai. It's a place Im considering to move to and this video has helped tremendous by addressing some of the things I had questions on. If all goes well, might meet you guys there 😁. Thank you for making this video. 🙌🏾
This is so interesting to watch, and quite enlightening. ❤
Very insightful and informative discussion. I learned something new.
As a fellow expat this was really well explained!
Loooove this video! seriously applying for jobs out here so hopefully I get one soon x
This was very educative❤love it
This was such a good and positive video! Thank you ❤
Loved, loved, loved this!
I actually messaged my hubby midway while watching this and told him that we could consider travelling to Dubai for a month.
Visited just once so far and I absolutely loved it!
great video. insightful. thanks for doing this.
Thank you for this informative, mind opening 😊
I’m so glad you made this video, honestly I’ve heard so many negatives and just needed to hear the real stuff about living there. Looking to visit this December and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it. So proud of You Lamide
You will hear a lot of negatives...especially from people who have never been, and even from some who have. The thing is though, I always ask people, which city they would recommend that is better?
Never seem to get an answer.
I so much enjoyed this discussion
Love this content xx
This video makes me want to pursue working in Dubai soo bad, thanks girls I appreciate the info!
This was such a lovely wholesome conversation to watch. I totally agree with the conversation about social inequality because most of the conversations with taxi drivers and maids tends to prove otherwise because they stay here for over 10 years which means that there must be certain benefits. Granted their lives are not perfect and there are lots of challenges but everyone has challenges and a story!
Indeed 💕
I found your videos as I am doing my research about moving to Dubai. Forums such as Reddit have a very negative bias towards the country. As a fellow Brit, your videos have been so useful. Thank you!
Hey I'm from Mauritius too and looking to potentially move to Dubai. Thanks for this video, it was really interesting.
I’m glad 💕💕
I can't wait to move to Dubai... Just love the city❤
i just moved here, this is so helpful xx
This is so good. The conversation was too short
Thanks girl, I cut a bit out cause of the audio messing up 🤧
Wow this was insightful. I'll confess, I was one of the people who thought you need to give your passport to your employer. For someone that visits Dubai yearly and all.
Wow love Dr Sheen
Contemplating moving abroad. Dubai is in my top 3
Ooo what are the others? I’m intrigued
@ Italy Spain Canada but I just interviewed for a Dubai position so fingers crossed 🤞
@@PoSHEmediaglobal Did you move to Dubai?
Had exactly the same experience in Morocco!
Lovedddddd this content. Very informative. 💕💕💕💕💕
🤍🤍🤍
Wow, Dubai is a dream. I totally enjoyed this video 😃
💖💖💖
@25:41, Yep, accent bias is a thing. I experienced it as a British Nigerian in Japan. Once they rule out American or African (generalised) - the attitude changes. It’s an interesting experience, eye opening and humbling!
Same in Italy!
I'm American and experience a great deal of privilege overseas.
Hi lamade need some advice I might have won a 3 months contract in dubai coming from the uk what do I need to pay ie apartment bills
You are is inspiration ❤
So kind, thank you 🥰
Great video! And yes there are many black Arabs of African origin in my family also. You probably wouldn’t know until you meet them but there are Emiratis of East African heritage. The demographic of the Gulf and Arab people is made up of many ethnicities, it so beautiful
Loved this video, you’re such a great duo.
But @SheenGurrib are you not African being from the Mauritius?
Much love and appreciation ❤
Really would have loved an off-cycle internship in Dubai if not for the Nigerian visa ban
Is there a main website for jobs in Dubai ? I'm in the Oil & Gas industry
What a combo 😍😍😍😍
I enjoyed the insights from this video and I agree that there are human rights abuses and inequalities even in the West, but I want to say it doesn't mean we should refrain from questioning and challenging those inequalities for the marginalised communities facing them. Just because it also happens in the West doesn't make it OK, and there are current issues particularly regarding long-term resident rights, citizenship and labour rights affecting the people living in Dubai that aren't as profound in the West. Lots of literature and news reports on this.
That’s true and we’re not saying that there aren’t issues but that doesn’t mean people should take it out on people who decide to move to another country for a better life. Every country has issues it could work on, why should the inhabitants take the blame or carry the burden, the anger is misplaced imo
This is a VERY-VERY GOOD conversation. How about you do more of this interview type content with people with different background (race, country, job, etc) so that we all can get different perspective from different people. Thanks.
Have you officially relocated to Dubai or on secondment within your current company?
What are some of the best resources for obtaining a job in Dubai other than LinkedIn?
It seems, it’s very difficult to find a job in Dubai today. So I’m not sure what specific companies you are talking about. It’s all about referral. There are 5000 resume per opportunity applying via LinkedIn. So how to deal with this?
How hard is it to find a job there
It's very common to have maids etc in Malaysia with a lower loving expenses and expats live like a king
@24:15, The Nigerian visa ban is relatively new. The conversations about racism in Dubai are decades long and didn’t start with that controversy.
I believe that a few of the more informed individuals are referring to matters beyond the visa ban.
Like with the UK, class plays an important role, but we are not single identity beings, therefore, the two issue can co-exist. Also, from travelling and living abroad myself, accent plays into one’s experience. All your attributes are ranked and depending on the situation your race will be secondary (or even lower) when it comes to how people will treat you.
Yet, there is a hierarchy when it comes your direct counterparts that are of different races (whether conscious or unconscious bias).
😊😊😊😊😊
Wait...
I used to see her at Ali Abdaal's Channel
American depressed me so bad. I just want to go to Dubai but I camt get a job there. Still looking.
most of the video is just light music for me from @7:38 to the end. idk y. did Dubai block it?
Really? I dunno, maybe refresh
@ its just music
Moved to Dubai and my experience what totally opposite of what they’ve said in this video. Not easy for a black American without status. Can relate to they are talking about as my experience here in Dubai
Can you please elaborate?
What do you mean by status? A celebrity?
Love this video. I am originally from Taiwan and am currently studying at a well-known international business school in Barcelona. During my study, I found classmates from Europe and the US generally have a wrong perception of Asia, even though most of them graduated from the top schools and some have travelled to Singapore, Japan, or Hong Kong before. They still have a perception of backwards and neglect the fact that a lot of conveniences of their modern life are the beautiful outcomes and cooperations between the West and the East. Additionally, people also think in a way they have usually been propagandized by the mainstream media from the so-called liberal countries, a way that only the values that they promoted are the best for all the human kinds and every nation around the world. However, we've also seen that those Western countries perceived double standards in Gaza, and that may lead to a gap and distrust from the Global South.
“Have you seen the camps where they live?”
“Noooo”
😂😂😂😂😂
omg im Mauritian too 🤣
super nice contend
but OMG it was so difficulty to concentrate on what was being sad because the audio quality/eco was terrible
i know, Sheen's mic died about 8 minutes into recording which messed up the audio 😔
I appreciate your vid… I just don’t like Dubai n I have been there. I prefer Oman 😊
Sorry hon, but some stuff here definitely doesn't make sense. When you said that generally all Asians are treated as the 'help' that is absolutely wrong. Among several other things in this video.
