One would’ve thought they would’ve learned their lesson after they gave a similar treatment to temptation: the new sale of the Century, when they brought it to the US market in 2007. Now that’s insanity.
When Larry visited the US version, he literally said “I’ve forgotten how much fun this was.” It made no sense…until I watched a 2012 episode. Poor Larry had to polish what was essentially a turd. ruclips.net/video/_R_WJjOEDFs/видео.html - go to 3:05. Larry let it slip probably subconsciously- but when the contestant won, he was so excited as if he remembered what Old Nine Network Larry was allowed a moment to return!
Trust me, there have been other TV news stories about bad game show revivals, including those from _A Current Affair_ and possibly even some U.S. news programs.
I mean, The Price is Right doesn't always give away hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes to winning contestants on the regular like ACA claims here. But yes, the 2012 revival was utterly bad. It should have been a 60 minute extravaganza, featuring prizes that people actually want, like the hottest electronics from the biggest brands, trips to destinations in and out of Australia, furniture and fixtures, fitness and active exercise prizes, and cars that are not just on the low end of the scale (how about SUVs, trucks, or even a luxury car now and then).
The thing is, Deal or No Deal was still a ratings juggernaut at the time, and if Andrew O'Keefe was told that his show would have to make way for that, his recent meltdowns would've happened a hell of a lot sooner. :-o As fate would have it, Larry Emdur would indeed replace him on The Chase Australia, and if doing some hard time doesn't stop Andrew from going down the same destructive path as his uncle Johnny did, nothing will. :-/
I have to agree. Yes, I'm partial to the U.S. version, but this just seems very cheap and sleezy from past versions. The flashy set just made things worse and some of those camera angels at the beginning of the show are downright nauseating.
To this day, i still believe the cheap, dated format was one of the reasons why "Wheel of fortune" ended it's run on Ch7 in 2006 after 25 years on air - it couldn't possibly survive any longer using the same stripped-down 90s format with only cheap prizes and a low-mid range car on offer, particularly at a time when other game shows were giving away potentially life-changing cash prizes. But boy, a revamp THIS cheap and nasty in 2010s?! Yeah, you could tell this was version of TPiR was a glamourised "corporate slave" for BigW rather than a real game show.....I remember the 2012 version of "The Price" didn't even have any holiday prizes until like, the third week. It had become a parody of it's old self :/
It should have been called “The Prize is Slight”. I hate to agree with “A Current Affair” but when my friends and I went on this new version of TPIR, we were really excited to be on the show. It ended up being one of the most boring and time-wasting experiences I’ve ever had 👎🏻
The 2012 version was terrible they tried to based it off the French Version. It was one Big W advertisement. Larry is a great host its a shame he was stuck with this watered down format.
Yeah it was crap it wasn’t even worth watching it I remember it on channel seven I thought it’s not really exciting to watch then the channel nine version with Larry emdur and it was all cheap the production team at channel seven was all tightarses if I was making a game show with Larry emdur I would make damn sure it’s definitely great to watch
Coming from an American, I admired Larry, despite the disastrous result of the 2012 revival. It was way better in the 90s and such, including the Monster/Mega Showcases. Larry still knew how to make contestants feel as if they were home and winners, whether winning cash and prizes or not, but with the revival, it made most of them feel as if they just went on stage to just see Larry and nothing more. Even so, the last thing Emdur would ever want for anyone, is to see them feel down or not win anything- whether Price is Right or not
Sounds like what Temptation (the new Sale of the Century) was in the US.
Have to love channel nine (home of the original version they are referencing) taking the piss out of seven.

Channel 10 have brought back Deal or no Deal and the cash pool is much smaller
The AOK version and US Howie Mandel version had $2 million and USD1million

Kind of reminds me of the syndicated edition that came out 1994 here in the United States.
At least budget-wise.
Replace budget with format and then you are correct

Could you give me examples of really bad game show reboots that went on the news in the US? I'm talking about AU's TPIR 2012 bad.
singing "Oh no! Nothing but furniture..."
Ah Splendido!

Can you upload “The Price is Right Australia (4/9/2012) | BigW Counter” please?

yeah it was crap nothing like the old days
And it was total shit.
I admit it was really bad (A Big W voucher? C’mon!). Plus Larry Emdur is the worst host I’ve ever seen.

@Anthony Koomen Let me guess, you prefer Andrew O'Keefe?
I don’t think so for Larry as host in anything…
And I don’t think he had ever hit “cancel culture”…
