I'm an Electrical engineer. The impedance of a circuit is the sum of resistance (dc) and the Xc and Xl (ac) resistances. Using an ohm meter you only get the dc part of the impedance. Measuring as reactance is difficult with out special equipment. Also the result is frequency dependent. What all this means is for the speaker system you have impedance is equal to the resistance of the speaker + the resistance of the the wire + the resistance of the circuit caparance + the resistance of the inductance. If you model your speakers, tbe Z (impeadance) will come out to real close to 16 ohms. Capacitive reactance, XC = 1 / (2 × π × f × C) where: XC = reactance in ohms (ohm), f = frequency in hertz (Hz), C = capacitance in farads (F) inductive resistance is simular to capacitive resistance XL = (2 x PI x f x l) if you do the math you can see how XC and XL can cancel each other out at some frequency at that the circuit becomes restive ( Z=R) that frequency is at resonance. In speakers you don't want to happen because maximum current flow happens. Feel free to ask any questions you want.

nice 2 part vid.. even tho i knew most of the content already its always nice to see a great tutorial on any subject, :) last time i did this was to a 1970 traynor 2x12 cab that i got for almost nothing that was loaded with 2 12watt house speakers.. ended up using 2 150watt electrovoice loudspeakers for a total of 8 ohms.. closed back.. sounded great running off a marshall 1x12 80 watt combo.. had way more headroom than i really needed.. information is priceless. i hope a few people out there can heed some good advice :)
hi, great videos! i've a fender champion 40 but their speakers turn distorted at vol 5 and in low tones just break up... im thinking to change speaker, do you think i can get Good Clean sounds with Deep Lows if i replace it? or i just have to change my amp?... thanks your videos are very helpful

You do cover some of that in the rig rundown videos. This would be a detailed demo of planning, measuring, phase checking, imp. checking, of the signal path.
Thanks for this great video, I've played with electronics a long time but just plain for got you had to have both wires on the same side on those type of jacks instead of the ground wire in the back and the hot wire on the front on the opposite side, I just could not remember and thought the other way was wrong but it is not, you forget a bit when you get older. I'm wiring a Marshall 65 cab I built and that was the last part I needed to do, much appreciated.
He measured the physical resistance of the speakers in parallel which is a DC property. That is not impedance. Impedance is an AC property and varies with current and voltage and must be calculated. Ya can't just hook up an ohm meter and read impedance. Jes sayin'.
I cant put my hand on a frequency amp.. Why not just put a mp3 song with clean bass on repeat for a few hours at a decent volume ofc.. just to make the speakers vibrate. And regarding the wires inside the cabinet.. i thought thick special wires are better.. just like on a hi-fi amplifier - speakers conection :) I like how you work, nice video
7hotfuzz7 I use the headphones output from my hi-fi amplifier and i go with the wire into the "mp3/line input" of my guitar amplifier. I conect the cabinet to my guitar amplifier ofc, and thats it. My hi-fi amplifier is conected to my pc's audio card, and I play mp3's using my computer. You can check out on my chanel, I have a video where I do a speaker break in using this kind of audio "chain" :)
The easy way to go(when you don't have an frequency generator) is to go on RUclips, and search for "50 Hz tone" , "70hz tone" etc. And that's it! The same thing. You have to be careful with the volume not to blow the speaker ofc. That's how I did a break in process to my speaker, because with mp3's you have to get too loud so you can make the cone move.
You do not want to put bass through guitar amp speakers. The speakers are not made for the low frequencies. Some amps such as the Bugera trirec, have variance knobs so you can limit the output wattage.
The impedance did not increased because you added a jack mostly increased because the speakers are not anymore facedown to the desk , the gravity influence the impedance of the speaker at rest... if you check the imp. With the Speaker face up you get a different reading if you check face down different reading, if you check sideways different reading , a jack and wires that short can add at maximum 0.2 - 0.3 ohm

The speaker or the cabinet is rated at 16ohm. But when you put a test meter on it it comes out somewhat less - about 20% or so. depending on the ohms of each speaker and how you wire them - series, parallel or series/parallel will result in the impedance (ohms) of the cabinet which needs to match the amp.
Well, ultimately I will throw most of the anachronisms like wire gauges out of the window in favour of reliability and sense. "Made by hand" does not always equate to what people would recognise as "handmade quality"! Popping in a jack parallel to the 1/4", reinforcing the screw locations, etc. would be next. That and modifying the logo to "Mash all". Par for the course I think.
I have a tip for you: when screwing the back, I would suggest making sure that the jack is on top and not bottom, You always have a moron that will walk behind the cab and knock off the ¼ plug thus damaging the entire jack, just mu experience LOL.

No, you are quite wrong sir, a signal generator is one thing but the question he asked likely unknowingly is just what I stated it is, a physics question I don't have time to answer fully; the generator is an electronics machine to insert a signal to find where in the circuit the opposite signal has ended, I have one and use it often.
Jyme Bale To break in new speakers all you do is plug the signal generator into your amp and sweep the audio spectrum over a period of hours, spend more time in the lower frequency range as high frequencies can overheat the voice coil(s) of the speaker(s). I know this to be true.
I did not know that as I've never used one of those for that, good to know if you want to break them before they should be although it seems now a days everyone wants the pre broken in speaker, I would rather do that my self but then you can also have Weber build a broken speaker that distorts far before normal, I have some that do just that and some that do not for clean, thank you for the info.

Totally. I would use something far heavier and add shrink tubing to the solder joints to relieve stresses from movement.
