Wow, this review ended up being much longer than I expected 😅 Didn't realise I had that much to say! But if you're interested in my full thoughts on Final Fantasy XVI, check it out here! And thanks for watching!

I guess what is missing here: There is so much love for detail. I spend minutes watching the Tonberry Robot in Ghost Square. Barrets reaction to it was gold. Or Dios face everytime he flexes. Even Elenas small smirks.
As for Queens' Blood: I don't like card games. Yeah I did Gwent sometimes and go for Triple Triad in FF8 early, because of the materials you can morph, but Queen's Blood let me think: Yes I would buy that as a physical Version. Screw your regular FF Cards Enix Store, give us a Queens Blood Set and Cards!

This is the most balanced review I’ve heard from anybody and I find it interesting that you like me didn’t play the original. I think a lot of people who love it did and enjoyed the world aspects but personally I felt it really hurt the pacing of the story. Too many open world map objectives and Side quests, that, although some people say I’ll skippable you need these to up your party XP, which gives you more upgrade choices. This is why I did everything I could until the back end. By chapter 11 I was getting fatigued, and then we hit the Cait Staith section. Man that was hard to get through. It was total filler. And honestly, I prefer Remix to rebirth as the pacing was much better. That’s not to say I hated the game I just think it fell off at the back end and became convoluted.
Sorry wrote this before the end but Yes Chadley is very annoying.

Thanks! Yeah, people are going to assume we hate it now despite the number of times we say we actually like it but such is the way of the internet I suppose 😅 but yeah, glad to hear you agree!
Also I did actually end up playing some of the original after Remake, as well as Crisis Core but yeah, still same kinda boat.

@@ExtraLifeReviews yeah good old internet for you 😂 I started playing FF7 OG but i decided to stop and play 15 as hadn’t played that or 16 yet. FF7 Remake was my first FF game. Ive already got to the point on 15 where I’ve had enough of side quests 😂 Looked at what i need to do coz i wanna play the story. I can see the improvements that we Rebirth made over this though. Even if I still think it had too much filler.

I’m 60 hours in and have been playing in graphics mode the entire time. The locked 30 frames hasn’t been an issue for me and the higher fidelity is definitely more worth it in my opinion. But with those new patches, I bet performance mode looks a lot better at launch. Will have to try it after I beat the game.

    • @ExtraLifeReviews
      @ExtraLifeReviews  6 месяцев назад +1

That's fair. Personally, I just couldn't do it, it was a lot. And yeah, maybe things are different now but I played it at launch too and I just couldn't do 30 this time around.

14:56 upon game completion/on a save that's completed the game you get access to a menu that'll let you choose the date you go on so anyone playing the first time shouldn't be too worried about it. you also carry over your relationship points. you also get chapter select.

True but my advice was for people who don't want to go back and replay that section onward. Obviously it doesn't really matter because it has no bearing on the main story but still, it's just if people want that to play out the first time around. Otherwise they could always just watch those specific cutscenes on RUclips.

Im gonna call BS on the game balancing cutscenes gameplay. The amount of game play this game has is massive.

I think a big issue is a lot of people who grew up on this game and want to experience it like this, are at a point in their lives where they don't have a lot of time to dedicate hours and hours into all the annoying mini games this game had. Like I spent an entire evening play chocobo mario cart. I found there was so many I lost track of what was going on and was using my pre existing knowledge to remember what was happening. I think they need to look at the balancing of the VR missions at the end too. I beat all the ones in the first game, it was a challenge but still fun and there was a method.
These new ones absolutely suck and its mostly luck in regards to what moves the overpowered foes use vs pure skill and builds needed to win.
Its a great game but definitely has things I wish they did differently.

So in regards to the mini games, vast majority of it are side content. You really only HAVE to do mini games on I think like 2 sections of the game. Costa del Sol and of course Gold Saucer. Technically I guess the dolphin mini game and the cart ride with Barret, which are both short. Otherwise, you dont have to do sit ups with Jules or play leap frog with kids if you dont want to. If you do just main story, its around 40 hours. Everything else is bonus world building for anyone interested.
I think some players struggle to figure out to balance there play experience and play time with open world games. I cant tell you skyrim takes too long to finish, because that only applies to people who decide to do the myriads of side content optionally available. You can choose to pursue main narrative whenever you want, but the side content is interesting to a lot of players so they do that instead. Elden Ring similar prospect. I dont have to investigate that giant dungeon that will take hours. I could just go do main narrative. Thats on me, not the game.
Not sure what you mean by the challenges being unbalanced. They seemed similar, apart from I guess the Mindflayer challenge which was pretty bad I admit. It highlighted the targeting system not being the best. Otherwise, there are many many ways to handle most of those fights. I cant think of any overpowered moves, because most are usually dodgeable or perfect blockable. Some even can regular guard against too, or flat out interrupt with basic synergy skills (not the cutscene ones which are great too.) But, if I over commit and spam attacks over and over and the enemy does a move in range that can hit me, thats my fault. I shouldn't have overcomitted. Hell, assess almost always tells key weaknesses like "when enemy does this move, do this and you will pressure it" pretty often. Maybe, the very end where they jack up difficulty like fighting multiple bosses at same time is rough sure, but I also kinda expect that since well, its the end of the game.
Worse comes to worse you can always lower the difficulty. No judging here, play at whatever skill level you want and enjoy the experience. But yeah, just offering perspective.

@@GodofGoblins I definitely get what you are saying. The problem is all the best gear is locked behind completing the mini games. Like the dark matter for genji gear etc plus if I've paid good money for a game I want to play all of the content it offers so it's annoying when that content isn't fun.
I know we had loads of mini games in the original but they all led to something. Like knights of the round made all that grinding worth it. I don't feel you get the same reward in this one for the level of frustration you get with the games. Like having to wait ages for a cactaur to body slam so you can beat it is just bad design.
I've nearly finished the main story on hard on my second play through and it's not difficult. I meant the VR mission's that you have to play which can only be done on hard. The legendary ones are ridiculous and if you want to play as Zack and sepiroth which any fan will want to do. You have to complete a run of super frustrating battles.
I platinumed the last game and the dlc. Did everything including beating Weiss. So I'm more than comfortable with the game and playing it. The enemies are just super aggressive on this one though and you can't say after trying the white terror on legendary that there aren't some tweaks needed.
I even platinumed elden ring and that was no where near as frustrating as this.

@seankeating7659 genji gear mainly just breaks damage limit. So unless you are a God and really understand optimal combos, that's really only useful for hard mode. Otherwise you can be just fine with either status protection or Stat modifiers. Hell, in the gi area you get an item that builds limit break faster. That is way more practical and useful than the genji, unless again you are super optimal.
But look it is what it is. Higher quality stuff will be behind sidequests. That is final fantasy. Ffx if you want ultimate weapons, time to dodge lightning bolts or perfect choco races. Ff9 time to do optimal bosses and auction house and trivia questions. Ff15, time to do a crazy platforming dungeon. Etc. That's just part of the experience. It's never ever required though to handle main story. But yeah, hope you get through it ok.

Personally, I thought 16 was a much better game despite some of the flaws you've mentioned. Repetitive content, some jank (think costa del sol segways) which I'm surprised you didn't even bother bringing up. You even mention Yakuza, which im assuming LAD8, but the side content in that game is miles ahead of the crap rebirth thrown together. I picked up rebirth on launch and still havent even gotten halfway because of all the aforementioned things.

The game is massively overloaded with annoying chores and unbalanced mini games, with a stellar story that is drug to a crawl by open world and aggravatingly unnecessary unskipable crap. Also the worst implementation of FSR upscaling I’ve ever seen.
