"Somebody walks down the street with a baguette and a couple of Nazi officers walk by." I had to stop the video to have a real chuckle at that one. Sometimes Mark Kermode really has a way with words.
"Cubby Broccoli's working on some spy movie with this Scottish actor" I groaned when I heard that line; so clunky and awful. The film makers want the audience to go "Alfred Hitchcock doesn't know about James Bond! Tsch! But WE know!"
Oh wow that clip is exciting. I can't wait to watch the whole film and see what other things from the '60s a bad Alfred Hitchcock can "subtly" reference.
About 4:40 he refers to Diana (Princess of Wales) and if you look in the top right hand bit of the picture, you can see Diana's face, where her right eye is hidden by a curtain/veil. You can also see her "broken nose" and he little lips.
+Michael Hope Yea I know that. It was a joke. I was being sarcastic, and forgot I even wrote this. Sarcasm and dry wit is easily missed in the comments section so I can see why you didn't get it. And to be honset I can see anything either. I was drunk I think, though I can't remember, and it's not even funny. Sorry.
The director's claims that he's not making a biopic, he's researching himself, making films about 'ideas', begs the question why he makes films with VERY well known real life characters. IMO the answer is because no studio would give him any where near the budget he's been given to make these films if he doesn't. He's a rubbish (and dumb) director that's cleverly hitched his wagon to other people's mythology and playing a con on studios.
Genuine lol at "No cut of this could make it any better or any worse...the only way you could make it any worse is to cut it all out and make it into a short rock video". Mwahahaha
If Transformers 4 is being reviewed by James King, I will pop a blood vessel. This is a review that I've been waiting for since the movie was announced!
Toby Jones is a terrific actor and the audio here which featured his take on Hitchcock sounded spot on to me. I've seen enough footage of Hitchcock being interviewed to recognise his voice. I thought Jones's Truman Capote in 'Infamous' was superior to Philip Seymour Hoffman's too. Shame 'Capote' came out first, it was a much less interesting film.
I agree with everything you say about Toby Jones, he was magnificent as Capote and I'm happy that he was smart enough to dodge this awful movie. The audio does sound like him but it's Roger Ashton-Griffiths (plays Mace Tyrell in Game of Thrones).
Nicole Kidman won't be on the Graham Norton Show tonight as Simon proclaimed on the show. Maybe she's still unwell. Or maybe the film hasn't gotten any better... Still, beats walking out of the interview, I guess. Instead, Amanda Holden will be on the Graham Norton Show tonight. She's no Nicole Kidman, of course, in the acting department. Similarly immobile foreheads, though.

The irony about said quote is that Hitchcock would work for Sean Connery in "Marnie".....
I think that's what this scene is meant to be about, but the idea that Hitch had no idea who Connery was before signing him for Marnie is silly.
Rhubba is so very very bad, hitchcock would be spinning and laughing as he goes.
Cubby? Hmmm...
@@TheDrugOfTheNation Bwahaha! I wish I could upvote that comment more than once. It's the perfect in-joke :P

Slave2PaperWithInkOn Twas just a joke Mr Inky paper slave.
"The film is YOUR fault...not YOUR fault..."
"Oh, thanks."
"The film is the director's fault."

This is the first Kermodian roasting of a movie for a long time :D
Roll on Michael Bay and Transformers 4, and another good rant from old flappy hands.

But would it have been better if it was about Princess Monaco of Kent?
I'm just waiting for Kermode's top 5 of the year so far...
"Literally, slack-jawed 'WHAT?' moments..."
Nicole saw her mate Naomi do a biopic that was godawful and fancied doing one herself (that looks terrible)
Nah, they're probably repped by the same acting agency.

aerialkate total ham, has nothing of the spirit of hitchcock at all.

One of the funniest reviews he's done in ages right up there with sex and the city 2 , revolver and the davinci code
Have you seen his Wicker Man review?
yeah its an absolute classic
watch his Run for your Wife review
Hitchcock sounds more like Churchill than Hitchcock.
Well, damn, Mark - tell us how you REALLY feel and don't hold back hahahaha
"ONE MILLIONS DOLLARS" - come to think of it, Hitchcock is a little bit Doctor Evil-ish

Rubbish or homage? Rubbage!
This film supports tax evasion? I hate it already. ;)
Shouldn't the rock video edit have been for a Gary Barlow song?
It would appear this film is a complete car-wreck. No pun intended...
LOL!
Sounds more like Churchill than Hitch.
Well, the clothes are rather nice.
This movie sounds boring. And Nicole Kidman looks nothing like Grace Kelly.
*ELONGATED VOWELS*
Come on Dr. K "you start ending up wondering.." 5.05
You can do better than that.
Actually this sounds hilarious for all the wrong reasons. I have to see it now. (kidding)
I agree with this! It actually seems like watching for being so poor!!
I watched this movie, it was pretty bad, not really horrid though.
It's pretty bad but not worst than Diana.
its dull
Grace Kelly an "artist" don't make me laugh, she was a bloody awful actress, it was just her looks that got her by.
@L Ballard she was NOT overrated in the looks department
It was just Rubbish!?!Ha ha ha 😂
