Hi Tristan. These sound like terrific reads. I am a HUGE Colm Toibin fan. His body of work is incredibly diverse, and I've loved everything that I've read by him. Most recently, I read his novel, The Magician, which is a fictionalized version of the life of Thomas Mann. I had pre-ordered his newest novel, Long Island, which is a sequel to Brooklyn, which I also loved, but I haven't gotten to Long Island yet. Best of luck with the final edits on the thesis!
@@BookChatWithPat8668 thank you! I loved The Magician and I would LOVE to dissect that book a bit more because Toibin used that story as a vehicle to show us how history repeats itself and is repeating itself right now. Loved it.
@@Tristan-L-Space-Books Yes! He's really quite incredible. I'm repeatedly astonished by the books he writes. I loved his novel about Henry James from some years ago, The Master, also. Have you read that one yet? And I think I just read that he has a brand new book that just came out this month on his experience of reading James Baldwin. That sounds really promising too.
Yay historical fiction! Interesting take on the myth/historical categorization. My friend Eloise Bahr Writes has a channel and writes Greek myth retellings in a series, if that's your thing! I haven't yet read Toibin, but I think he has a wide range of tones and topics--talented. :)

I incorporated a feminist reclaiming of Medusa into my thesis, since she bears a lot of similarities to aspects of Therese Desqueyroux (my focus). I'm listening to Stone Blind by Natalie Haynes, and it's good, but I'm having a hard time disconnecting my scholar brain from it.
