- This video is the second of two videos showing you how I modified the steering unit from a Classic Bond Minicar. In this video I show you how I used the Clarkson cutter grinder to partly reform some gears.
I also modified the backlash adjusting system, I had to really, because there wasn't much adjustment left after removing material to reshape the teeth on the gears.
I hope you enjoy the video..... if you didn't, let me know why.
OOPS... slight error at 22.50 should read...
Hard to drive the quadrant through the worm gear..
Easy to drive the worm gear over the quadrant... sorry!
Bye for now. Хобби
I am the proud user of the prototype mod, fitted to my Bond just over a year ago… it is absolutely ****** fantastic! Zero steering play, light and responsive steering with perfect feedback.
I am fortunate enough to have had the brakes also, expertly tweaked by Paul- feels like they are servo assisted now! Not bad for 5” drums.
Now… how can I make it faster….?
Hi 6982den. I recognise your polished banter. I’m glad you’re still enjoying the mods…
You know way more about tuning Villiers engines than I do..
I do have limitations.
Besides,.. didn't I observe you overtaking a Mercedes down a country lane near Alderly Edge....
Regards
A brilliant corrective repair, used to believe I was pretty mechanical, now I am going out to the garden and eat worms.
there’s always plenty more to do…cheers
What a brilliant solution to the issue Paul, thanks for sharing.
Thank you, cheers
I like the way you used two followers to follow the worm... very smart, simple , and effective.
Hi, ‘simple' is a word I like. cheers
Nice! Looking forward to the final result.
thanks, cheers
Hi, this was more than interesting. Appreciated from Montreal Canada Cheers
Hi, thank you for watching, cheers

Paul,,
Cheers, thanks
Fantastic job Paul! Thanks for sharing 👍🏻
Thanks for watching, regards
Thanks for another interesting video. Your videos always give me ideas for making my own projects.
We should start having some videos from you soon then…👍 regards
The original system was driven by cost constrains ,several of your mods could well have been incorporated in the original design. Great job Paul of making a silk purse repair out of a real Sow's ear worn set of parts ! 👍👍
Thank you, Cheers
super cool! very interesting video and machine work.
thanks for watching.
Brilliant. Thanks for sharing your work with us.
Thanks for watching
Excellent video
Thank you, cheers.
As good and interesting as ever. Thanks. I never guessed when I rode in one of those Bond mini-cars (1960s) that there was so much going on! Les
apart from the brakes, thats about it. LOL
great work paul, i like the way you have thought this out and it is a success.very interesting the grinding of the worm. thanks for sharing.
Hi, thanks for watching, regards
A well thought out and executed modification
thank you, cheers
Really enjoyed this Paul as with all your content and the way you go in depth on thinking behind what you do. The Clarkson cutter grinder was very interesting, could i ask what radial tangent dresser you used? i have one in mind but am concerned it may be too big for the Clarkson, i need to adjust an ACME HSS tap that is cutting out of spec. Any other content regarding the use of the Clarkson would be most welcome, Thanks.
Hi, I didn’t use one, I used a carborundum stone and dressed the wheel very carefully using the piece meal stop and compare technique.
my comparison or gauge was a spare quadrant with good teeth. its very hard work getting the profile set using this method but this is all I had.
regards
@@Thesheddweller Thanks so much
Great video as always - thanks. How did you dress the wheel for grinding the quadrant gear please?
I used a second less worn quadrant gear and used it as a pattern the stone was the right type for roughing not quite the right one for finishing though
Regards
How did you profile the grinder wheel?
Sorry, just red a reply below
@@excavateboy Hi, I used a second quadrant gear as my profile gauge, Its very time consuming but worth the effort.
